A much-deserved first in this comment section given that you're the reason I ended up playing this one. Thanks so much again for the suggestion, the help through the game, and your company through the stream into the wee hours of the morning. I couldn't have done it without you!
This is definitely going on my Game Boy "Perfect Collection" list. I'd heard the name before and the knew it was an RPG, but wow the story and ideas here feel way ahead of their time
I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments here. I don't know why my expectations are always a little lower for Game Boy games, but they're some of the more impressive ones I've played, this one especially!
I'm so glad this channel came up in my recommendations I've never heard of this game and it's totally something I want to play. Turns out I have the rom too
I'm happy that TH-cam seems to be recommending my videos to people! That's great to hear :) Enjoy Great Greed. It's such a fantastic little game but does get a little tricky toward the end. I still put the soundtrack on once in a while.
I'm really enjoying all of your detailed reviews. Many of them I have already played but I enjoy how you analyze each element of a game. I also learn things I didn't know about some.
Thank you so much :) I do my best to be thorough with these kinds of things, especially when there's so much charm to sort through like in this case. Weiner encounters were pretty frequent in this one!
Oh man, how much did you LOVE including that Snoopy clip?? I loved hearing these tunes again after popping in on these streams.. wonderful work, GG! So cool that you're able to play/stream these GB games.
That pizza that Snoopy makes in that clip has always made me feel hungry! Do you have any old cartoons that do that to you? I watched that Peanuts episode so much as a kid! And the music in this game is phenomenal. I keep wanting to listen to my own review over and over just to hear the music in it. I'm glad you were able to be there for some of the streams of this game too.
@@hungrygoriya The only cartoon I can think of along these lines is an old Loony Tunes one where there are two men deserted on an island, and they're so hungry that they imagine each as different kinds of food.. drumsticks, hamburgers, hot dogs.. but it didn't exactly make me hungry :) I don't think there's anything wrong with that, and it is always a good time hanging and see you play games I've never heard of.
So neat! I love finding good, and somewhat obscure, handheld RPGs. And the fact that it's not a typical medieval setting? Wonderful! Enjoyed this vid, and the streams I lurked on. Well done, as always!
'This isn't one of those fufu RPGs is my new favourite line from a manual! And thank you for taking the time to read the manual, a lot of reviewers don't bother and write off games without knowing how to play. I know we want games to be intuitive these days but manuals were an important part of the context back in the day.
The humour in this game is top-notch, even in the written materials! And it's my pleasure to read manuals before playing. They're integral to enjoying games from this generation as far as I'm concerned, and I often really enjoyed looking at the artwork too!
I got this game for my 14th birthday and couldn't put it down. It's a highly underrated hidden gem and one of my favorite RPGs of all time. The ending is absolutely hilarious when you get to choose who to marry...
Yeah! It's very fun that they let you pick. I think I finished this game at 4:30 a.m. at the end of a very long stream one night, and we made a point to reload and check out all the endings. It was very sweet!
i couldn't agree more, i like how this game didn't take itself seriously a lot of times, along with some scenes and the food themed names, that ending was especially funny, like you said, the fact that they also let you see all the monsters stats at the end along with other stuff was a nice touch. The combat system was a fresh take, although i wish they worked a little on the sell option at the shops, since having a lot of space inventory is nice, but it coul also be a double-edge sword if you are not checking it regularly, still not that big of a problem. The soundtrack was okay and it had some nice tunes, although being honest there are other more generic like rpgs with amazing music compared to this one, but it still fits. Nice review!.
Yeah I think the lightheartedness overall was a huge draw for me. I also appreciated how much inventory space there was after playing other games like Final Fantasy Legend or even Earthbound where things are so much ore restricted! Selling can always be better in my opinion and I think the best selling system I've ever seen is The 7th Saga where they tell you the trade value up front when you upgrade anything! So smart!
The nostalgia. I remember playing this back in the day. I would say this is the game that really cemented my love for the RPG genre. It was a great game, fun, with lots of humor, some of it blatant tongue in cheek. It's amazing that they didn't do a sequel when so many lesser games did. The soundtrack was amazing especially for a gameboy game.
I'm so glad you reviewed this game. Game Boy RPGs are a bit of a blind spot in my gaming knowledge, and I've never even heard of this game. It seems charming. Thank you so much for bringing this game to light!
I was sharing around an indie game called "Kingdoms of the Dump", and someone said it reminded them of this game... I wonder just how many other people actually know about this.
It's always cool when an RPG game doesn't take itself too seriously and has a sense of humor. Those food enemies were simply hilarious, I had a good chuckle when I watched you encounter them on the stream.. and "food and food accessories" I see what you did there! ;) What a nice synopsis HG, I really I enjoyed the new cuts - especially the one that showed you explaining how the attack system works on the GBA. Keep up the great work! :)
A lighthearted adventure is always fun, and it's a nice break from the wear and tear on the heart that so many other RPGs usually dish out. And thanks very much! I'm glad you enjoyed the review!
Being a long time gamer I’ve definitely seen a lot of titles. So its always fun hearing about one you never heard anything about! Unfortunately for me that usually means it’s rare and thus expensive on EBay **sigh** I’ll have to find a copy! Something about RPGs on GameBoy. I love that system 😊
~I am at the 21 second mark of your video and I agree with you even though I do not remember anything about this game, but I do recall being instantly drawn in from what I remember...
You're too kind! Thanks so much :) I've had a couple of videos get spontaneously recommended to people that's bumped up viewership here and there, but I'm mostly a quiet channel still! I'm just glad people are enjoying the niche content!
Yessss! I hope you enjoy it. It's got a great sense of humour like no other game I've played before and that soundtrack still pops into my head. Enjoy! And also thanks for coming by the stream tonight. It was great to have you.
@@hungrygoriya Yes! I already started playing it through emulation, and it's a very good game. I'm surprised I've never heard of it especially considering how much I love RPGs, and obscure one's to boot
This game was so silly and so much tongue in cheek elements it really was a grand time to watch. Your quality reviews keep getting better and better, I simply cannot wait for your next installment!
You're too kind :) Thank you! It's always great having you in the streams as well as everywhere else on the internet with your unending support. Much appreciated!
I agree! It seemed like such an intuitive move, especially when you could keep it simple with attack, dodge/defend and a few spells. I loved the pacing of battles and would've really appreciated something similar in other games.
I love your channel! You make wonderful recommendations, while I can train my English as you have a beautiful clear pronounce. Thank you for the time that you put in making the videos. I am very happy woth your work, thank you a lot.
Fun to see your review and thoughts on this! I just completed my first playthrough and had a blast playing! Unique and quirky world and characters, and I really liked the story focus on trying to combat pollution. It was just a seamless experience in terms of gameplay and flow
It's a great game... happy to hear you had such a fun time with it. It took a lot of really quirky things and made it all work, I agree! It's one of my favourite RPG experiences I think.
What a zany sounding game. Appreciate this review. Have recently been curious about what other RPGs there may have been other than FF Legend 2 for Gameboy that I missed as a kid. Will check this out!
Yes, tomorrow. On a side note you got me in love with Kings Quest V. It’s a game I’ve had on my shelves forever and have never gotten into it. I completely watched your let’s play and saw the charm in it. I’m stuck in the basement labyrinth as we speak. I’m trying not to consult your guide or a walk-through. Keep up the great work with your channel. I wish you much success.
@@painter194 I'm really glad you're finding some joy in that game. A lot of people don't like the NES version, but I have soooo much nostalgia for it. Best of luck making your way out of the labyrinth. As long as you don't get too lost, you should be okay! And thank you :) Knowing that people like you are out there enjoying what I'm putting out there is a great reason to keep going.
Your channel is fantastic. Informative, well written and entertaining review subjects. You've gained a subscription from me! Thank you for the content!
I've actually beaten this game a few times. Where the final boss is concerned, I actually managed to get to level forty-nine, and managed to hold off leveling up until the end of the first phase. That way when the battle ended, I made it to level fifty and regained full health for the second phase. Still took everything I had to beat BIO-HAZ's carcass, but it was definitely still a great boss.
I have never heard of this game - a rarity as I worked at a Funcoland then was a game journalist for 8 years. Really liked your review and many aspects of the game (enemy designs, combat originality).
The food thing is common in Japan. I don't know why. I've noticed it here, Dragonball, The Frog For Whom The Bell tolls, Chrono Trigger, etc. It's also in many anime/manga from what I understand. My grandfather was Japanese so I once asked him and he just said "everybody likes food." I don't know if that covers it but it's definitely more common there than here, at least Speaking of The Frog For Whom The Bell tolls, have you played that one? You'd have to emulate it but I'd be interested to hear your thoughts. I still don't like the Ys-style "bump" fighting but otherwise it's exactly the kind of game I'm interested in
It's a quirky and funny thing to include, at least! Could be worse or weirder! I haven't played The Frog For Whom the Bell Tolls yet, but I do have a reproduction cartridge. I've been meaning to play it for a long time now and just haven't gotten around to it. Thanks for putting it back on my radar! I love bump combat!
Oh, interesting! Okay, well I'll keep an eye out in case you ever do a video. I think what keeps me from enjoying the bump combat is I play adventure games to live out my lifelong fantasies of living in fantasy worlds doing cool fantasy things. It's kind of like the screen is a portal to another world I can interact with. It just removes one of the main reasons I'm there. I want to feel like I'm fighting the enemy myself. That's also why I prefer the action adventure side of the genre. Just my personal thoughts there
Thanks for bringing this one to my attention. The title is correct...I haven't played (or even heard) of this one. Also, I would totally live in the Curry Nation! :D
The premise for this game sounds amazing, and also makes me think of Ferngully, for some reason... Also, I kind of love that you have James Bond in with the pile of Game Boy RPG greats. :-D
It's a really, really fun game. I hope you'll get to play it sometime! James Bond for Game Boy plays a little more like an adventure game than what you'd typically imagine, so I threw it into the mix.
Friend of a friend gave this game to me on the school bus in first grade. They couldn’t progress past 5 min into the game. I got a little further but got stuck so many times. Still remember this as “that mysterious game I never figured out”
One of the things I really liked about this one was how it's cut up into little segments, so you never have to worry about a huge world to keep pouring over for the next way forward. I think with your experience with it, it might be fun to revisit sometime!
Well done! This really seems like a Game Boy 'hidden gem'. I've certainly never heard of it, but I don't favor RPG's so perhaps that's why I don't recall it. I especially liked the trash in the treasure chests, brilliant! What a wonderful way to use a game mechanic to flesh out the world and make a real world point.
Thanks very much! I didn't know what to expect with this game at first, but it definitely didn't disappoint me even a little bit. The last stretch was a real head-banger since I was probably a bit underlevelled, but other than that, I was smiling the whole way through it all. And isn't it just evilly great? When your inventory's packed with trash items, it does feel rather pointed.
Thanks very much! I really liked this one and haven't found anything else quite like it. I don't know that I ever will, but that battle system is so good!
I actually have played it, but I completely forgot that I did! Even had this as a physical cartridge as a child. It's funny in retrospect that this was a Namco creation. They would go on to create the consistently popular Tales series.
Abundance of money and space is never a bad thing in my eyes. Dragon Quest could take a few hints there. this looks interesting and I like the idea of an A/B battle system. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for this one!
Limiting inventory is one of the worst things a game can do as far as I'm concerned. Especially in a game where there's so little explanation about what things do, you know? Many games could take a hint or two from this one! I hope you can find it when you get around to looking. I think it's on the rarer side but totally worth a play!
I'll have to check this one out. The tone seems like something I'd enjoy. One standout visual to me was the giant record player and how it seemed to spin the player.
This was a really good one; I love food motifs, and the quirky humor just drove it home for me. That ending was really something else, too, especially for 1992. 😏
@@hungrygoriya I cant remember for sure...I was like 9 or 10. I think I got most of the way through it but didn't beat it. I remember asking my dad what some of the names like 'escargot ' meant and finding out people eat snails. Lol
@@paulrexlan1307 What a way to find out about escargot :D If it makes you feel any better, I first discovered that tofu was a thing when I played Curse of Monkey Island. The end of Great Greed was a total slog so I can understand not making it through... it took a lot of careful grinding and hoping to beat the final fight.
I loved this game! It honestly fired on pretty much all cylinders. If it had one flaw, it's the fact that I didn't enjoy having to map spells to the D pad. For instance, if I needed a healing spell, I usually could only use a high level spell that ate up too much MP or a lower healing spell that didn't heal enough. Still nearly perfect and a must play, though.
That's very true. The MP meter felt pretty limited. I felt the buffs really helped towards the end game, but I barely made it out of the final boss fight giving it all I had!
Few games have pulled me in with the title music as you put it . The original final fantasy was one along with dragon's lair for the Nes ( which while a horrible game had an amazing soundtrack). ( Edit) I think I fell in love with Maniac Mansion on the Nes at first listen of the title screen music, but then I new I'd love it as soon as I saw it in Nintendo Power. I also forgot the first Zelda as well
Oooo I haven't played Dragon's Lair yet, but I'm familiar with the title screen music. Agreed 100% about that and Zelda 1. I also really adored The Battle of Olympus' title screen music as well.
@@josephskiles Oh no I would never... I have a few friends who really enjoy the game, so I think it's inevitable that I'll play it eventually. It looks tough but fun to master if you're into that sort of thing.
@@hungrygoriya I think I wrote in another of your videos some of it's major flaws so I won't repeat them. I just beat it out of stubbornness and the fact that I worked for like a month to save up for it when it came out. I honestly don't think I've played a game where the hero had worse control, it's your time/ sanity though and maybe you could at least get a good video out of it
The people responsible for localizing Japanese games to English with absolutely awful cover art need to be held accountable for what they have done. I would never pick this up based on the NA cover art but your review really got me intrigued. Great job!
I hope you enjoy this one if you give it a try sometime. The cover art's not really anything too special, but I do love that goo monster. He's charming!
I still have this game in my collection, and it’s def on the top of my most played game boy games besides the Pokémon series. I played this religiously long before Pokémon came out
Ive never heard of this game, but it looks great. I like the at once attack idea. Seems like some modern games could take that idea and run with it. Great review Hungry!
Thanks very much! This game is something I still think about often, and I frankly haven't found anything quite like it since. I'd love to see the battle system reborn in another gaming experience.
@@hungrygoriya You re welcome! I looked it up on eBay and it was going for 90 loose, unfortunately. I didnt have a GB growing up, but have gotten into GB/GBC and GBA and love finding the weird and quirky games. I think the lower barrier to entry with development and the price of the games let companies flex their imaginations and werent afraid to take risks that on a home console they may of not done.
@@zackschilling4376 Oh man... I don't recall it being quite that much even a year ago! Hopefully the price will come back down again when the pandemic's finished. It's a great one... I hope you can find a copy some day. Have you ever played Dinosaur'us? I have a review here on that game too, but that was probably the quirkiest and most out in left field game I've run into for Game Boy Color by a long, long stretch.
@@hungrygoriya No, but Im gonna check out that review. Yeah, I looked up some of my PS1 games and oh boy! They ve gone crazy! Even Dragon Quest VIII on 3DS is $100, and all the DS DQ games are pricey now too, and dont get me started on the DQ V DS Strategy Guide!
@@zackschilling4376 Holy smokes... yeah, maybe not the best time to be trying to get new games for the collection. Sounds like you have some great stuff lying around though! Very nice!
After watching this video I downloaded this game and beat it. I too was at level 44 when I beat Bio-Haz. It was definitely worth the download. Thanks for sharing.
@2:53 No Goriya paws :( Dig the Charlie Brown clip. This game looks right up my alley. I'm guessing it's pretty expensive now. The thing about not growing up with a Game Boy is now finding out about these games after they're no longer affordable.
That Charlie Brown episode was burned in my brain for many, many years. Those pizzas that Snoopy makes always looked so delicious to me as a kid! Have you seen the one where Snoopy becomes a sled dog? And yeah, Great Greed has gotten pretty pricey. I think it's spiked even since I got my copy, but mine came to me in a game lot. Thankfully there are lots of ways to play it if you really want to give it a whirl.
Oh really?! I've had it for a little while now and I'd love to experience something else like Great Greed. Thanks for the heads up! I might have to move it up my list!
Oh definitely good! It's pretty fantastic, especially because of how fast-paced the battles are. It's definitely worth a play as long as you know in advance that the end of the game is pretty steep in terms of a difficulty leap
"Great Gluttony might have been a better name (than Great Greed)" If you think about it, the deadly sins of Gluttony and Greed kind of go hand in hand. Greed is about coveting something while Gluttony is about having unnecessary amounts of excess. If you're greedy you'll more than likely be gluttonous too. I do get your point though, but I'd have to argue that if a game is gonna be called "great Gluttony" then it better star the most gluttonous Nintendo character of all: Kirby. (Or maybe King DeDeDe since he DID steel all the food in Dreamland that one time.) I'm definitely gonna give this game a try.
I hadn't heard of it either. It came to me in a game lot that I bought from a friend and only looked into it after I already owned it. What a lucky day that was!
Wait. did you buy that copy of earthbound on ebay from france by any chance? I remember my personal copy that i sold had its label similarly messed up.
Oh ok. It would have been crazy to see it featured in a youtube video though. Great content by the way, the games you cover seldom get any spotlight so props for that.
@@Judex1963 It would be pretty crazy eh? I kinda wish it were the case, but alas! And thanks about the channel. I'm definitely trying to talk about things I'm passionate about, but also things that don't necessarily get discussed as often as they should.
This looks pretty cool. I decided to see if I could find a copy, looks like they're going for upwards of $200 on ebay! And I thought $30 for the Final Fantasy Legend carts was a bit much... 😳
Gameboy Rpgs always have a unique charm not matched by other systems. This one looks very interesting and the combat system sounds similar to Thousand Arms over on the PS1. You also have to love the odd naming schemes localizers employed way back when. Great Greed sounds like nonsense compared to the actual title, but that was just how things were done at the time.
@@hungrygoriya Thousand Arms is very much like this one. It is more a comedy than a serious Rpg story. I wont spoil anything, but the combat really is more or less the same as Great Greed. Only one character engages the enemy, and the other two party members contribute to combat by buffing the character engaged in combat. They also apply de-buffs to enemies. It is important to note that you can swap out the character fighting at any time with either of their supporting party members. If you are a fan of late 1990's to early 2000 anime comedies you will probably enjoy this one. It does end rather abruptly though. Hopefully you will enjoy it!
I played it on the Super Game Boy so I could record it, and you can change the colour scheme to a few different things vs. just the regular black and white.
Microwave is just... *the best* name, oh man! How come Namco doesn't name RPG characters like that anymore? If there's any justice in the World, the character in Tales of Arise or Blue Protocol will have names that can stand up next to the likes of Microwave, Truffle and Cup Cake... or enemies that strike as much fear into our hearts as Pudinhed and Weiner XD This looked really, really interesting. Lots of quality and innovation from a GB RPG. I don't think I've ever seen a battle system like that, and it definitely looks like a neat way to inject some action into an RPG (and the focused one-on-one encounters seem like a good way to frame everything on the tiny GB screen). Though it kinda reminds me a bit of _Dragon Quest Swords_ on the Wii, actually, for some reason. It's just so fresh - seems like some modern RPGs - maybe even VR ones - could learn a lot from this. Modernize and expand the battle system and it would probably still be really engaging today. Just really fascinating to see it in here in an obscure GB game. Hey btw, what were all those GB games showed off at 11:55? Can't make out that back row at all (though I assume the TAITO game on the top right is 'Knight's Quest' by default). Then it's Metal-something and Ultima in the next row. Then Rolan's Curse, James Bond 007, Dragon Warrior 1 + 2, Rolan's Curse 2, and Survival Kids. The final row has the FF Legends games, Great Greed here, FF Adventure, ???? and Legend of the River King. I'm so curious about those I can't identify.
This game was totally awesome and innovative, and I haven't played anything quite like it. The enemy names cracked me right up when I was playing through, and there were so many other great ones I couldn't squeeze in here, unfortunately. So the games are (Back row, L-R) Sword of Hope, Knight's Quest, Metal Walker, Ultima... you got all the next row, and that one before Legend of the River King is Azure Dreams. It's a dungeon crawler that also had a release on PS1, neither of which I've had the opportunity to play yet.
@@hungrygoriya Thank you so much for the reply - you put my mind at ease :) I legitimately spent some time trying to figure out the Rolan's Curse games because I KNEW I saw those covers from somewhere but couldn't recall. I know I saw the font for Metal Walker too, so I was going to be looking that up tonight, haha (I thought it was 'Metal Saga' but there is no Game Boy version of that). Whenever you get to Azure Dreams - either version - I hope you enjoy'em! I remember liking the PSX version alright back in the day, so I hope they still hold up. Again, thanks a bunch for the reply!

I was sharing around an indie game called "Kingdoms of the Dump", and someone said it reminded them of this game... I wonder just how many other people actually know about this.
I wish more people did know about it! It's such a unique and fun game.
It's pretty well known lol
@@armyofninjas9055 You say that as if it's obviously well known... but is it?
Your editing is so good.
That's very kind of you! I try to learn something new with every new video.
I thought I was tripping remembering this game lol
This one's definitely worth playing if you ask me. You get a good bang for your buck in terms of time investment, that's for sure!
~I am at the 21 second mark of your video and I agree with you even though I do not remember anything about this game, but I do recall being instantly drawn in from what I remember...
Wow your content is great. I get this content is niche but I'm genuinely surprised you haven't blown up yet
You're too kind! Thanks so much :) I've had a couple of videos get spontaneously recommended to people that's bumped up viewership here and there, but I'm mostly a quiet channel still! I'm just glad people are enjoying the niche content!
sweet looking game. thanks for the heads-up on this one. had never heard of this before now, but it looks right up my alley.
Yessss! I hope you enjoy it. It's got a great sense of humour like no other game I've played before and that soundtrack still pops into my head. Enjoy! And also thanks for coming by the stream tonight. It was great to have you.
Wow I’m seriously about to go on the hunt for this cool little game. Thanks for showing it to me. Subbed

I was really doubting about playing this (I love retro games), but you convinced me and now I can't wait to play it! Thanks for the video!

Loved that music at the very end. 😌🎼🎶🎵 This game is a nice little hidden gem, almost as much as you and your channel. 😊💎
Awwww! That's very nice of you to say! Thanks so much :)
mapping commands onto buttons sounds really innovative for a game boy game, surprising not too many games tried that before early on
Thanks very much for watching!
Enjoy the playthrough! There are lots of RPGs to check out on the system but I haven't played many of them yet.
You have such a superb channel, I can’t believe I only just found it in recent days. I’ve since been binging on all of your videos. 👍
That's very kind of you! Thanks very much... it's been a slow burn here for the last few years! I'm glad you and others are enjoying the videos.
I've never heard of this one. Thanks for the introduction and great job!
You're very welcome! I still think about this game a lot, so that's saying something :)
Love your channel. i’ve been binge watching your old videos. I’m glad Wes introduce me to you. Looking forward to Zelda’s part two video.
Awww thanks for making your way over here :) I can't wait to see how he put everything together too... part 2 should be out tomorrow, I think!
Such a great review! thanks!

Really cool looking game, though I must say if Pudinhed was instead called Flan Man, I'd have to run out and play this immediately.
... I'm not sure if a Ham Man would do, but they're in there!
The "terrible food abomination" line made me almost spit my food out
Sorry to your food and to you, hahaha
Outstanding review! :-)
Thank you kindly!
Very smart strategy! That's awesome!
My grandfather was Japanese so I once asked him and he just said "everybody likes food." I don't know if that covers it but it's definitely more common there than here, at least
Speaking of The Frog For Whom The Bell tolls, have you played that one?
Curry Nation sounds like THE place to be! And you're very welcome. I hope everyone has a chance to play it some day. It's totally worth it!
This looks like a wonderful little game! I'll be giving it a try, thank you for the video bringing it to my attention
You're very welcome! Enjoy your time with this one. It's pretty special, and I haven't run into anything quite like it since.
I appreciate your content about these kind of games.. Definitely worth subcribing 👍
Awww thank you! I appreciate it!
Looks fun but why is such an early Game Boy game so rare? Did they only print like 100 copies or something?
I wish I knew. Maybe it didn't sell well for some reason?
Great review. This is one of my favorite Game Boy games.
I can't believe I never heard of this game before. Absolutely going on my must play list.
I hope you like it when you get around to it!
with a character name like "microwave" i already love this game ive never known about.
It's a fun game. It's got a very quirky sense of humour!
I really liked DW monsters but couldn’t get into most GB RPG games. I will have to check this one out
I hope you like it!
And here I thought I gotten ahold of this game after it fell through some wormhole in space and time!
im currently playing through this I just passed the record factory. This game has such a unique style, both in its play and its theme.
It's really something rare eh? I definitely enjoyed the different take on the traditional RPG here. I hope you enjoy the rest of your playthrough!
I think it's on the rarer side but totally worth a play!
what was that PS1 game with the thirstquencher empire? this sounds similar.
I searched the internet since I haven't heard of this and came up with Brave Fencer Musashi. Is that the one you mean? I haven't played it.
I'll have to check this one out. The tone seems like something I'd enjoy.
One standout visual to me was the giant record player and how it seemed to spin the player.
It's honestly so much fun! I loved the combat and haven't ever encountered anything else like it since.
good show. subbed
Hey thanks for checking out the channel!
This was a really good one; I love food motifs, and the quirky humor just drove it home for me. That ending was really something else, too, especially for 1992. 😏
Oh yes! I felt out many of the ending opportunities and they were interesting to say the least!
Good gravy! What a radiant review!
Thank you very much! I see what you did there with the food-based expression, haha
This video really makes me want to play this game, it sucks that it costs so much now
Totally... I hope you can track down a copy sometime. It'd be great to see a rerelease but I'm not holding my breath.
I had this as a kid. One of the only ones I remember on gameboy really capturing my interest.
Did you get very far in it? I really enjoyed this one!
@@hungrygoriya Same. :)
I remember marrying the King at the end the first time I played. You can pick anyone in the room, not just the princesses.
Yeah! I saved right before I got married so I could see all the endings!
@@hungrygoriya I liked it enough, I played through to each time to marry them all.
@@hungrygoriya please please don't play it, it's an abomination and I really don't want you cussing me for bringing it up lol
I played this religiously long before Pokémon came out
I wish I'd been able to experience it back then. You're so lucky!

After watching this video I downloaded this game and beat it. I too was at level 44 when I beat Bio-Haz. It was definitely worth the download. Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure! Glad to hear you made it through. It was quite the climb in levels at the end for me!
I watched GunstarHeroes777 stream this and it looked interesting. Had some funny moments. Good review!
Thank you very much! I really wish I had known Gunstar back when he did his stream of this game, but alas... we only met after the fact.
@@hungrygoriya Pretty sure I've seen all of the Charlie Brown cartoons. My brother-in-law makes us watch the Christmas one every year.
@@NefariousWes I always look forward to the Halloween one. I just got a vinyl with that movie's soundtrack, and it was heaven to hear it that way.

Hot figgins! I definitely need to check this game out. :D
Do itttt!
Don't you mean Hot Ham Man or Beano? 😂 I loved the foodcentricity of this game, stuff like that makes me laugh so much!

@@AbsoluteKaty It was definitely the highlight of my playthrough for sure. Eye Cake had me busting a gut!
I don't have this one but I may have to check this out. I love RPG's. How would you rank this as your RPG list? Any good?
Oh definitely good! It's pretty fantastic, especially because of how fast-paced the battles are. It's definitely worth a play as long as you know in advance that the end of the game is pretty steep in terms of a difficulty leap
@@hungrygoriya That's definitely up my alley. Bring the pain on!
So, it's like an RPG based on a world where Ferngully meets Silly Symphonies Cookie Carnival.
Yep, exactly!
"Great Gluttony might have been a better name (than Great Greed)"
If you think about it, the deadly sins of Gluttony and Greed kind of go hand in hand. (Or maybe King DeDeDe since he DID steel all the food in Dreamland that one time.)
I'm definitely gonna give this game a try.
Interesting thoughts! Thanks for a thoughtful comment, and enjoy that playthrough!
I played Great Greed ages ago. It is really a very good Game Boy RPG.
It absolutely is! I'm glad you got to enjoy it back in the day.
I feel like this game was meant to be called "Gluttony."
I have never heard of this game but now I’m really interested in checking it out
I hope you will! It's really quirky and fun.
The connection of the food theme and the pollution 'enemy'? POISONED/TOXIC FOOD.
It definitely has resonance with things going on in today's world.
I have never even heard of this game before, it's awesome looking. How have I never heard of it?
I hadn't heard of it either. It came to me in a game lot that I bought from a friend and only looked into it after I already owned it. What a lucky day that was!
I got this game because of your review and honestly it was an amazing game and adventure
So glad to hear you enjoyed it! Thanks for giving it a try!
Wait. did you buy that copy of earthbound on ebay from france by any chance? I remember my personal copy that i sold had its label similarly messed up.
Nope, I got it at a convention years ago.
This game has gone up in price quite a bit in the past couple of years, unfortunately :( I hope you can find a way to play it.
Oh Thousand Arms is similar? I'll have to look into playing that one soon then!
I wish this one wasn’t so expensive and hard to find. It deserves a modern day reprint!
Me too. I'd love if more people could play it.
Saw you have sword of hope, hope you make a gameplay of it :)
I'd really love to find the sequel some day. And thank you :)
Great review! How do you get it in color? Mine is just in black and white, thanks!
I played it on the Super Game Boy so I could record it, and you can change the colour scheme to a few different things vs. just the regular black and white.
Thats a great feature the super gameboy has.
Microwave is just... *the best* name, oh man! How come Namco doesn't name RPG characters like that anymore? If there's any justice in the World, the character in Tales of Arise or Blue Protocol will have names that can stand up next to the likes of Microwave, Truffle and Cup Cake... or enemies that strike as much fear into our hearts as Pudinhed and Weiner XD
This looked really, really interesting.
@@hungrygoriya Thank you so much for the reply - you put my mind at ease :)
I legitimately spent some time trying to figure out the Rolan's Curse games because I KNEW I saw those covers from somewhere but couldn't recall.
@@barry-allenthe-flash8396 My pleasure! Thank you for leaving a comment in the first place. I've tried to scoop up as many Game Boy RPGs as possible and have been pleasantly surprised with everything I've played so far. And Azure dreams is on my list of games to play sooner than later for my streams... though based on the list of games it might not happen til next year at this point :D Too many RPGs to play and so little time!
This seems like a very fun JRPG to play, I'll surely take a look at it.
I hope you enjoy it!
Did you ever play mercenary force on game boy? Honestly it is a pretty neat game, but not what you expect it to be!
I can't say I have! I looked into it a bit and it looks neat. Do you know if it's playable in Japanese or if I'd need an English copy? The Japanese version's significantly cheaper.
The battle system, specifically the way you select actions, really reminds me of Kingdom Hearts.
It's been many years since I've played Kingdom Hearts, but I know exactly what you mean!
