TRANSLATION
1) I forsake You, O Lord, and came to this world
of pain and sorrow. Now I submit my tale of woe
at Your lotus feet.
2) While still in the unbearable shackles of my
mother's womb, I saw You before me. You
revealed Yourself but briefly and then abandoned
this poor servant of Yours.
3) At that moment I swore to worship You after
taking birth; but birth came, and with it the
network of wordly illusion which robbed me of all
good sense.
4) As a fondled son in the lap of relatives, I
passed my time smiling and laughing. My parents'
affection helped me to forget the pangs of birth,
and I thought the world was very nice.
5) Day by day I grew and soon began playing with
other boys. Shortly my powers of understanding
emerged. I read and studied my lessons
incessantly.
6) Travelling from place to place, proud of my
education, I grew wealthy and maintained my
family with undivided attention. O Lord Hari, I
forgot You!
7) Now in old age, Bhaktivinoda is sad. He weeps.
I failed to worship You, O Lord, and instead
passed my life in vain. What will be my fate now?
This bhajan moved me to tears. Anyone who realizes that he has been ensnared by Maya and that he had forgotten Krishna, would feel that anguish.

The above 2 lists of prerequisites are required prior to performing Pranayama
Following Pranayama and understanding and practicing shankrachayas nirvana Shatakam, Krishna (in BG 6.6) says "for him who has conquered the mind, the mind is the best of friends but for one who has failed to do so, his mind will remain the greatest enemy", it is important to recognise that the mind is our friend now and it is important to perform Karmayog.
Karmayog is to be actioned as stated in BG 13.5:
"Humility; pridelessness; nonviolence; tolerance; simplicity; approaching a genuine and authorised spiritual master; cleanliness; steadiness; self-control; renunciation of the objects of sense gratification; absence of false ego; the perception of the evil of birth, death, old age and disease; detachment; freedom from entanglement with partner (husband/wife, boy/girlfriend), children, home, people and possessions; even-mindedness amid pleasant and unpleasant events; constant and unalloyed compassionate devotion to a personified symbol of self-realisation, truth, Self and Brahman; aspiring to live in a solitary place; detachment from the general mass of people; accepting the importance of self-realisation; and philosophical search for the Absolute Truth - all these are declared to be knowledge, and besides this whatever there may be is ignorance."

(1) O Lord, forgetting You and coming to this material world, I have experienced a host of sins and sorrows.
Now I approach Your lotus feet and submit my tale of woe.
(2) While I was bound up tightly in the unbearable confines of my mother’s womb, O Lord, You once
revealed Yourself before me. After appearing briefly, You abandoned this poor servant of Yours.
(3) At that moment I thought, “After my birth this time, I will surely worship You with undivided attention.”
But alas, after taking birth I fell into the entangling network of worldly illusions; thus I possessed not even a
drop of true knowledge.
(4) As a dear son fondled in the laps of attentive relatives, I passed my time smiling and laughing. The affection
of my father and mother helped me forget You still more, and I began to think that the material world was a
very nice place.
(5) Day by day I gradually grew into a young boy and began playing with other boys. Soon my powers
of understanding emerged, so I diligently studied my school lessons every day.
(6) Proud of my accomplished education, I later traveled from place to place and earned much wealth.
Thereby maintaining my family with undivided attention, I forgot You, O Lord Hari!
(7) Now in old age, this Bhaktivinoda very sadly weeps as death approaches. I failed to worship You, O Lord,
and instead passed my days in vain. What will be my fate now?
