Just got this camera today and even though you kept saying "It's a long video," it was still a crash course on all of the settings and features! Great job!
Thank you so much for explaining everything. I’m seventy three and I decided I wanted a new camera your video really helped me.I was very intimidated .... Not anymore 👍🏼 Thank you 🌹
My hubby likes to say i have the eye, but not the technical knowledge. He bought the 80D and i ditched my Nikon d3400 for this one. I feel like it's easier to maneuver. I really appreciate your guide videos! Thank you!
Not touched a camera for 30yrs, joined a club, just got the 77D. This has been a lifesaver! 30yrs missed tech🤣🤣🤣 I'm so out of touch! Hey, time for me now! Watch out world!
I just bought this camera yesterday and I really appreciate this video! On my last camera (Sony Alpha 100) I never learned the menus and didn't get the most out of it. With this video and ALL of your videos, I am confident I can get great shots with my new camera!
Watched the video yesterday in anticipation of the camera arriving, just got my 77D body-only in the mail this afternoon, after charging the battery played around a bit with it, using an EFS 24mm f/2.8 prime lens. This thing is pretty awesome in low light. My previous camera is a Rebel XS and the 77D makes the low-light characteristics of the XS feel like a cheap point-and-shoot by comparison. I was able to see *the dust* stuck to the leading edges of ceiling fan blades at about twelve feet with most of the illumination in the room coming from a single light fixture off in the corner with a dimmer turned way down, shooting handheld at f/2.8, manual, with autofocus enabled but set to nine points in the center. I specifically chose this camera over the T7i because of the LCD screen on the top right; while I wanted the flip screen for shooting in awkward positions like against a wall and for video, I wanted the traditional dedicated view for settings. After watching the video and going through initial setup, I left image review on the main screen on at 2 seconds because with the screen turned around facing inside it won't turn on that screen. My wife will also use this camera, I didn't want her to have to go through menus to change settings like that. If I had gotten the T7i or the SL2 then I might have considered turning the image review setting off, but since I probably won't have the screen facing out it shouldn't matter much either way. This way all she'll have to do is switch from manual to one of the automatic modes with the dial, flip the screen over, and she'll be ready to shoot. I'm now mildly curious what kind of results I can get with that Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 zoom, or with the EF 50mm f1.8 prime, or any of the other wide aperture lenses. Also plan to test out the old kit lens from the XS, an old 28-90 f4-5.6 kit lens from a Rebel K2 film camera, and an old Tamron zoom lens I picked up somewhere along the way. A new zoom lens is in the cards but I may as well see how this camera shoots with what I've already got before I get more.
This was *super* helpful! Thank you! I just bought the 77d yesterday, and after previously owning the 1100d for 3 years as my first ever dslr, this camera was quite a step up (and rather advanced for my level of knowledge). But thanks to this video I feel so much more at home using the 77d !
I'm considering this camera for purchase. I'm an intermediate hobbyist, and this looks about right for someone who enjoys higher-end photography, but who can't spend the money or the time on the gear I really want! (Old School Leica and Hassleblad)
I truly appreciate the time you took to explain the functions for this camera. It was very helpful and informative. I would just say that it may be a fast explanation for those that have absolutely no knowledge of camera functions. Someone like me. I had to stop and look up what certain things meant (didn't know whay the heck ISO meant). That said, it was very helpful.
This video is extremely helpful! I've been looking into getting my first real camera and I think the 77D is the one for me, I look forward to following this video step by step when my camera comes!
Images are really good quality, canon has true natural colors as compared to Nikon. Then again its a personal preference whether to go for canon or nikon. both cameras will give decent quality images. make sure you get good sharp lens with it.
Late to the party here, but I just have to give a shout-out for a very helpful video. Not only did you explain what each of the functions is, but you also give your two cents about what the setting should be. i.e. I always wondered about AI Servo & AI Focus (ai focus seemed confusing to me. Think I'll stick w/single or AI Servo.) Lastly, I appreciated that you kept things moving along. The video didn't have a lot of distracting frills (music, clipart, overlays, etc). I'm subscribing. Maybe even try one of your classes. THANKS!!
Hi Jared, could you help a fan by recommending a Canon Picture Style Profile? I use an Eos 77D camera due to lack of budget, but I would like to improve the default colors.
I’m just a beginner in photography and got this Canon 77D & SONY a6500. Find this video really interesting and easy to understand. Looking forward for the fundamentals of photography and camera, pretty sure your channel is going to be of a great help! Thank you.
Great job! And much appreciated!! My 77D will be here Saturday!! I’m soo excited upgrading from my other camera!! This video is chunk full!! I like it!! 🙌👌👍
Thanks Jared, in watching this at 2 a.m. and i learnt a lot of things of my future first reflex. If they didn't find what they're searching for, i dont know where they find a video that explain all the features of 77D.
Hello, I’m confused between buying Canon 77D and 80D. Mostly interested in still photography. I’m not a professional, just a hobbyist. If the image quality is same, I’ll pick 77D. 77d has a newer processor which might result in better image quality. Plz let me know your pick.
Hi Jared just bought the 77d today and went through the tutorial. Gonna start shooting some video and pic shortly. Thanks for all the time you put in to making these videos. I'll be a customer as opposed to a subscriber shortly.
I wish you would have started with the video menu, you really phoned it in on that section since it looked like you got bored with it by then. I would have liked to go into some of the settings and get your input on the different options.
I have been trying to decide between the 80D, 77D and Sony a6300 for the past 2 weeks! Love the Sony but for handheld stuff it's so stinking shaky so really comes down to the 77D and 80D. I have yet to see any comparisons between 80D and 77D for photos and video. Only spec vs. spec.
Go to +Chris Winters site he has a comparison. I recommend the 77D, the 80 D has very little more for like 300-400 dollars more; its just a mic headjack into the camera that you're paying for with the 80D
Hi Jared! Thanks for the awesome video! I just purchased a 77D as my first DSLR and this video was a big help since I'm such a newb. I liked and subscribed, and I plan on taking your mini-course as well. Thanks again!
hey Polin.. thanks for such easily explained features of the camera.. during the video u asked about the (single) ' and (double) " . in settings for auto power off I see if we touch any of those it automatically shows us the time duration as ' as a minute and " as a second.
Same here, Santa bought it for me (me = Santa). Got the camera bag, extra battery, and mono pod as a free bonus plus the camera was on sale at $70 less than normal. Very happy with the deal. Upgrade from my Canon Rebel T5. His video really took a lot of the mysteries out in a hurry. Thanks Jared! Thumbs up from me
Hi Jared, thank you so much for 77D user's guide video. as a newbie, your video really helps me to understand about a lot of menu settings on canon dslr. maybe i will buy this camera.
Hey Jared, nice video, but here's a tip for you. You are using an L full frame lens. If it would be an aps-c lens it would have only a white dot. Full frame Canon bodies only have the red dot and aps-c have both because they work with both kinds of lenses. Better mention this next time because an amateur might get confused after not finding the red dot on his aps-c lens.

I need to decide quickly about whether to get the 77D or the 80D. Is the lack of AF Microadjustment on the 77D sufficient reason to avoid the 77D? I use Sigma 2.8, Tokina 2.8, and the Canon Nifty-Fifty lenses.
I'm certainly no professional, but I went with the DSLR, specifically the 77D, to replace my previous DSLR, a Rebel XS, because of the native lens selection, battery life, and the still photography characteristics of the camera. I will grant that the M-series can use the EF/EFS lenses with adapter, but the key words were, "with adapter." Canon's EFM system has been out since 2012 but there are only eight Canon native EFM lenses, six of which have apertures f/3.5 or smaller. In contrast their RF mount for the new R-series mirrorless cameras just came out last year and already there are already four lenses, three of which are f/2 or bigger, so I have concerns that the EFM series is a dead-end and will be discontinued in favor of the newer R-series. Besides, the DSLRs will let you shoot from a live view like a mirrorless, but will still let you shoot as a traditional single-lens-reflex camera like the film cameras they replaced. This translates into better battery life. Only particular advantages I saw for the mirrorless cameras are size and weight related, but factoring lenses and adapters into account, those advantages are reduced.
If you have the camera connected to a computer and you use the cannon software youi can then save directly to the computer which is why you would want to be able to shoot without a card
This was so helpful, because I just got the camera 📸 and I didn’t know anything about it and this video just thought me a lot even though it was a long video, I watched it all. LOVE YOUR WORK & CHANNEL
I've got one on-order, body-only. I'm debating between the Canon 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 USM and the Sigma 17-50mm f2.8, and possibly the Canon 15-85mm f3.5-5.6. I can get the Canon 18-135 lens locally used with that zoom/focus controller for about the same as the Sigma new. I also have an older EF 28-90mm f4-5.6 from a film camera and similarly a Tamron 80-210mm f4.5-5.6, both have autofocus but neither has image stabilization, so while I could use them for telephoto, I'll have to use some kind of support to steady myself. Plus I still have an 18-55 IS II kit lens that I'm using on my current Rebel XS. So my debate is whether to try to use some of these existing lenses, or whether it makes more sense to toss 'em out and go with something new. The 15-85 is locally available used for $350-$375 from a couple of listings, the 18-135 USM is $300, and the Sigma used locally is $250 (albeit with references to having been serviced, which makes me nervous) and new for $285. If I decide to carry the Tamron for telephoto then either the Canon 15-85 or the Sigma 17-50 would be good choices with neither too much overlap nor too much missing zoom, but it does mean carrying the extra, older, non-IS lens. The Canon 18-135 might serve as a 90% solution, but wouldn't give the large aperture of the Sigma and there still might be circumstances in which I might want more zoom. I'm half-tempted to use my old kit lens and to carry the Canon EF and Tamron for awhile, see if I ever put them on the camera and to what extent I zoom. If it turns out that I don't ever use either and can live within 18-55, then the Sigma is probably the right choice. If I swap-on the EF 28-90 then the Canon 15-85 might be the best choice. If I find myself using the Tamron but keeping it under 135, then the 18-135 might be the best choice. Obviously none of this might matter when I start playing with video. The 18-135 USM might be king of video even if I want the Sigma for still pictures.
Thanks man, great vid! I'm a newbie to DSLR and this vid gave me a good feel of the basics. I had read up on a few things, mostly the important stuff, beforehand, but this video made it easier to understand and know where to change things fast and correctly. Thank you.
Just got this camera today and even though you kept saying "It's a long video," it was still a crash course on all of the settings and features! Great job!
Thank you just it helps me

Thank you so much for the video
It's really useful 💓
Im actually planing on getting a 77D for my next upgrade. I watched the t7i vs 77D vs 80D. I like the 77D. Decent on price for people like me 😀
"Dont even look at the mirror"
I'm dying 😂😂 xDDD
I like how he perseverates with the point while looking directly at the camera LOL

Just purchased my 77D ($649), been using a XTi (400D) since 2008, looking forward this weekend in the sticks.

Hi Jared just bought the 77d today and went through the tutorial. Gonna start shooting some video and pic shortly. Thanks for all the time you put in to making these videos. I'll be a customer as opposed to a subscriber shortly.
Why is the menu on my 77D lacking some of the options shown? Is it possible to update the software?
I used this for my 80D and it worked a treat. Thanks Jared 👌
THANKS!!!!! I will buy this camera next week
I wish you would have started with the video menu, you really phoned it in on that section since it looked like you got bored with it by then. I would have liked to go into some of the settings and get your input on the different options.
Great video! Super informative and helpful! Definitely my go to channel 👍🏾
Only spec vs. spec.
I like the 77D
oh i finally know the story behind the fro, sorry dude i didnt know.

Hi Jared, thank you so much for 77D user's guide video. as a newbie, your video really helps me to understand about a lot of menu settings on canon dslr. maybe i will buy this camera.
Thank you for the video! Just got the 77d and so happy that I found your video
Brilliant tutorial video Fro. Years later, still valuable. Thanks!~Rm ;-)
The thing with red squares was very useful. Didn’t know. Thanks!
Amazing. This will be my first DSLR
Hi, great overview. Not sure you covered the AE lock button. Would love to see how that is used and possibly with the focus lock feature.
Hey Jared, nice video, but here's a tip for you. You are using an L full frame lens. If it would be an aps-c lens it would have only a white dot. The Fro is So Helpful!!!!
Thank you, Jared. This is really helpful.
Hey can you tell me which camera is best cannon M50 mirrorless or cannon 77D dslr ???? Please help me for choosing the right one
@@TWX1138 thanks for solveing my confusion 😄😄
If you have the camera connected to a computer and you use the cannon software youi can then save directly to the computer which is why you would want to be able to shoot without a card

Really good & informative information 🙌🏻👌
Just bought the 77D. Now I gotta wait for it to ship.
Hi ! I don't normally like or comment videos on TH-cam but this video was truly informative and you really helped me out ! So thanks a lot :)
Hey Jared! Great video. Getting my 77D in a few days. Any lens suggestions?
If you're a beginner, go for 18 to 135 which I have. It has a USM motor which you'll love, lightning quick AF.
Got it ? Or yet to buy ?
Mukesh Chauhan I got it. Also got the 18-135mm EF-S
harmesh That’s what I got. I love it.
Thanks man, great vid! I'm a newbie to DSLR and this vid gave me a good feel of the basics. I had read up on a few things, mostly the important stuff, beforehand, but this video made it easier to understand and know where to change things fast and correctly. Thank you.
