This is killer. First time ever hearing this song. I have been listening to EDM since late 80's and recently decided to learn how to produce and write this style of music. I never got to the point I could even name 5 EDM artists until this past year. I am hearing DeadMau5 essentially for the first time as I am taking Joel's masterclass on how he produces his music and one of his assignments was to listen to this track and try to hear when he employs certain tools & ideas. All I can say that after getting serious about EDM this past year, this is one of the most chill, erie, and cool tracks I have listened to. His less-is-more approach on this song that allows a lot of space has such a haunting vibe to it. Really shows a level of maturity I have not heard before. . I do not even know the name of this genre. For 30 years, I thought all electronic music was called techno, trance or EDM . DeadMau5 is now in my top 5 favorite artists. Love to hear some recommendations of other artists you think I would like if I dig this. And please let me now if there is a specific name for this type of genre of EDM. I love this stuff. Peace out.
Late comment, but Boards of Canada have a similar downtempo, simple, laidback feel to this track and a few others on this album. I'd recommend checking out Music Has the Right to Children first. BT - This Binary Universe is one of the only albums I can call an electronic masterpiece, so I'd highly recommend checking that out too. Orbital - In Sides is a classic, with its great attention to detail and good vibes. If you want an album with a lot of variety, I'd recommend checking out volume 5 of mau5trap's We Are Friends complations. Volume 6 is good too, but it focuses more on techno and isn't quite as good imo, despite having double the amount of songs. If you like that, it might be worth your time listening to mau5trap's other releases too. Pendulum - Hold Your Colour is a great drum and bass album, with a lot of variety. I've listened to a lot of music. I also have a 1,700+ song playlist full of a wide variety of music, mostly electronic. If you want to check it out, just search "squiddit" on spotify, click on my profile and click on the playlist that's called "saved". Hope this satisfies your musical sweet tooth for a while. ^-^

It's definitely different than the Soundcloud version, but not bad. It sounds kinda experimental and I'll respect that. I just wish the filter was longer on the melody synth.

I love this song. It isn't about sonic fireworks, but the melody gets you (me) hooked. It's quite interesting to hear this sort of music from deadmau5. Are there more royksopp/daft punk/justice style tracks I should listen to?

In the way I see...deadmau5 is always changing between what he want to do with his musical style, and he create song based in his everyday life. He is one of the few musician that put some of his heart in every single song. If he is depress or angry like everyone he like to show in his record. I have follow her problably 9 years and he continues changing in the way he live as the same that his songs. That is way we have songs as diferents as Sucketfest and Strobe or A city in florida and I remember.
I think that when the moment came in his life he will create another master piece like Hr 8938 cephei but in the meanwhile we have songs very unic like Cat thruster
I used to stonewall EDM and pay no attention to it other than Skrillex, because pop culture made me think EDM was basically those same 30ish songs everyone was hearing. You know, Garrix - animals, Avicii (rip!), etc... Then one day I ran into videos of some guy named deadmau5 sitting in the coolest looking studio I've ever seen, speaking his mind truthfully about what he likes and dislikes. I liked that so I put on his song called Ghosts n stuff. That very second I had the biggest awakening in music I had since first hearing Skrillex. I can't turn deadmau5 off. And I'm a hiphop head lol...

Durrant miller i hate the word, but i don't know what else to call them. "beat" doesn't sound right, since it refers to the drum beats and not the whole part, and "the part of the song where the drums come in and everything else changes" sounds ridiculous

Durrant miller I think he's referring to the transitions that you hear in the soundcloud version like the ones you hear at 2 minutes into the track. Though I understand if you don't like the word 'drop' to describe it. And it doesn't really show up in this version of the track.
