      Agreed, corrosion doesn't mean you have a refrigerant leak. You got water in there.. Refrigerant has oil in it not water.. You need to buy a electronic leak detector or use bubbles.

    Wow, the customer was actually able to get TWO companies to look at their unit ! Here in NYC, you can consider yourself fortunate to get someone ( good or bad ) to come in under one week. The last time I called a company for service, they gave me an appointment almost 2 weeks away, wanted a credit card number to “hold” the appointment and guess what….. they NEVER showed. When I called the office to inquire, all I got was nasty attitude . Bought the book and some tools, now I only call if I need to open the line sets. Thanks Craig .

      He said at the beginning of the video that the customer couldn’t be bothered to be at home for their appointment. That tell me the customer didn’t give two shits what was wrong with the units diagnosis and just wanted it fixed that would in this case not be done for cheap. The techs “don’t care you just need a new unit” comment on the invoice what was the customer deserved for missing his appointment. Truck got rolled out, a company expense, for a customer that couldn’t bother to be present.

    • @stevee7774
      @stevee7774 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nobody “bashed” the original contractor. The original contractor just lost business because they didn’t give a shit about the customer. The customer likely has a job/life that may not have enabled him to be present at diagnosis. This guy will take the time to document and explain to the customer what is wrong and he will get the customers business. Yeah, the truck rolled out and he diagnosed it- and I’m sure they got paid for the “you need a new one” diagnosis. But since that’s where their level of professionalism starts and ends, they’re gonna lose a customer.

    • @taylerellis378
      @taylerellis378 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You can clean out the cu and replace just the compressor as he stated though it usually makes more sense to replace the entire condenser. The compressor alone can cost almost the same as the entire outdoor unit and there will be more labor involved and the additional cost of refrigerant. A new outdoor unit contains most if the refrigerant charge already so you save all the labor of flushing out the old condenser with the all expensive R11flush. The tech can then simply flush the liquid and suction lines while getting the evap make the pipe connections, pull a vacuum, and release the refrigerant on a new cu, test, and complete. And with a new cu you now have a brand new outdoor coil, cu fan, contactor, wiring, compressor at a huge fraction of tge price it would cost you to replace each part as time goes on. So yes unless the old cu is new its best to go with a new cu!

    • @jeremymcguire7069
      @jeremymcguire7069 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@unacceptable6625 Well we don't oversize the breakers for the exact reasons you mentioned. I'm not sure it would be effective anyway because of the massive peaks of back emf generated by the switching circuitry of the ecm drives. Another thing that we *definitely never, ever do* is bypass the gfi breaker and replace it with a properly sized normal breaker. That would result in normal, reliable, and safe operation of the equipment.

I tried to do it but the wire letters on my old thermostat don't correlate with my new thermostat. my ac blows hot whenever i switch it to cold. the white and the orange wire i think is the issue. I searched online for how to fix this, but a lot of people seem to have the same problem with no solution. I'd appreciate your feedback

    • @--harry_
      @--harry_ 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a lot of research to do before purchasing a thermostat. Not all thermostats do heat pumps. Multi stage heating and cooling could be an issue also.. The wire colors are not in stone. Installers can use any color wire and sometimes do. They also fix shorts or breaks in the tstat wire by using spare colors. Did you take a picture or write down the old wire colors to where they were connected? You know like blue to c, red to r, yellow to y, green to g... If so call the thermostat manufacturer. They will, based on your old set up, tell you where to connect them. I always check the air handler and condenser connections if I go out to fix a tstat that customer tried to install a thermostat and gave up. It should be the same y to yellow... etc. Always turn off the power to the Air handler before messing with thermostat. If you wire it wrong you can burn out a fuse or the transformer.

    What is the price for new compressor with labor and everything and do you have to waist all the Freon because I was told I have to pay almost $700 just for Freon then some one else told me I need a new evaporated condenser a third company say all you need is about one pound off Freon he put the freon and now is much cooler inside my house but I don’t think is working 100 percent good

    • @--harry_
      @--harry_ 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Price would vary on the unit. It the compressor burnt out then all the freon should be replaced. A good estimate is on the name plate of the unit. It will say factory charged with.... now with that said, the other tech added a pound and you are working. Sound like the compressor is working and you have a leak. Leaks are just how they sound. Poke a whole in a bucket. Add water and wait. Will you have to keep adding water to maintain the level of water in the bucket? So he may have charged you up with the pound, but you may need a 1/2 more now.. 2 lbs next week.. follow me? If you are low on refrigerant your coil will not cool properly and as it gets lower your coil will begin to freeze. Restricting airflow in the house.. Then you will have water all around your unit inside as it mass thaws. You may have a low pressure shut off safety that turns off your unit outside. Maybe the 1st tech the compressor guy misdiagnosed it as a compressor? Leaky coils should be replaced or you will pay more in freon in the long run than the repair itself.

    What if that fan motor or compressor was still shorted to ground when you pressed that contactor in with your screwdriver?

    • @speckulator7516
      @speckulator7516 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will blow a fuse. The last grounded compressor I had blew a terminal out of the compressor releasing the charge. That gets your blood pumping if you are sitting close to the unit.

      Agreed , only it would have done nothing because the fuse was 'already' blown or he would not have have 220 at the disconnect because a breaker was 'already' tripped. The short to ground would been sudden and final prior to the tech arriving. If you get there and see a blown fuse or breaker then you start checking for short to ground. Why did the fuse blow? Now if you are in a hurry and replace the fuse push in the contactor, then you would see and hear the mistake you made by not researching the cause.

      @@--harry_ Agreed Harry. I took it as he meant what would happen if the power was still on. Fuses blow or breakers trip for a reason and this stuff doesn’t heal you have to troubleshoot it and fix it or condemn it. I think we can also agree it’s not a good sign when you find the unit tripped a breaker.

    Why do you have to replace the condenser, if the compressor could be replaced! Is it due to burn out that probably blew residual burnt oil or even refrigerant back into the line of the system?

    • @jacobmercer7526

      It’s more labor to replace the compressor. It’s not that much more to change the condensing unit. The only compressor changes I see is if the unit is under warranty and the manufacturer will only change the compressor. Remember most only pay labor year one. Or the home has a warranty, they rarely tell you to change the whole unit.

      Do you fix your TV, refrigerator, washer machine? Or do you buy a new one. It has hit every aspect of our life. China can build it cheaper than we can fix it!
