I think one of the reasons this watch is appealing is I'm SO tired of Diver Watches and their bezels. I like a plain, clean, Bauhaus bezel like this one.
I love it. Don't care about the Hardlex Crystal, the bracelet or 'just' 100m WR. This watch can do anything with this specs and at this pricepoint I think this new addition to Seiko's portfolio is just awesome! The movement alone is a big step up due to it's advanced functions that the older 7S26's were always missing. Very interesting how this became a completely different watch in terms of the look! I think this is one of the best '1-watch-collections' out there for beginners. It's sporty, it's versatile and it's elegant enough for those occassions where it's needed. Thanks for showing this one Bruce!
i bought this watch a couple months ago when it came out and its a great watch its superb, it wears just like a rolex explorer, and i assure you the bracelet is great on it. the anthracite dial is believable, this does not feel like a cheap watch at all, its such a comfy wear, its my all day watch.
Most people will never be able to afford a Black Bay 36/41 or Rolex Explorer, and this is a nice entry-level alternative. I'm a bit tired of the skx crowd endlessly complaining that the new Seiko 5 line are not true skx replacements. Of course they are not, and they weren't intended to be -- they are designed to be stylish everyday watches that can still go in the swimming pool. Seiko is a business, and they're obviously getting out of the ultra-low budget ISO diver market. It's a decision that is probably paying off for them because the new Seiko 5s are selling very well.
THANK U! I was gonna say it if u didn’t. And for $200 how much more can u ask for? People are so obsessed with WR and act like u can’t swim with 100m WR. People swim all the time in their 50m WR Apple watches. If I go diving at some point in my life I’ll just take my watch off. Lol.

I just stumbled upon your channel, so definitely will be subscribing! But at any rate, I have to agree with you, this is a fantastic watch. I purchased a blue 5KX earlier this year, and while looking at that watch I saw this one, (but with the bracelet, the SRPE51) and when I got home I couldn't stop thinking about it. The very next day I returned the unopened 5kx I bought the day before and exchanged for the SRPE51. That was about 6 months ago, and I still couldn't be happier. I've swapped my second hand to the Rolex style lollipop and added a sapphire crystal. But aside from those small changes I feel like Seiko did a perfect job on this watch. Excellent review, and I look forward to watching more of your videos. 👍
Weirdly, i find these flimsy, cheap bracelets on my 2 Seiko 5s more comfortable than the bracelets on my more expensive watches that tick all the ‘specs’ boxes. That said, this Seiko 5 looked really nice on a couple of those straps. Quite like this model as well. Thanks for the review!
I actually fitted an even more rattly and flimsy jubilee to my old seiko 5 snk789. It's just ungodly comfortable. Meanwhile my SARX055 is always either loose or tight because it's not got any micro-adjustment... (If anyone would like to make a replacement bracelet for the 055 in titanium?)
Lipgi Tang I think many manufacturers and even enthusiasts forget about the comfort aspect of bracelets and straps. The flimsier bracelets, especially jubilees are often more flexible, and they are also lighter as they don’t have heavy milled clasps or chunky, solid links.

A 100 dollars bracelet (I guess) on a 200 dollars watch? Whatever, since Seiko raised the prices, do not put sapphire on 500 $ watches I'm done with seiko. The last watch I bought is a Spinnacker Bradner (new model, green dial) for under 200$ incl shipping at amazon sapphire, 200 m water resistant, real good leather band, unbranded seiko NH35 movement, fantastic look. Hi Bruce, always enjoy your videos. I didn't realize there were bezel variants with this model. I have the JDM SBSA041 and it has the fixed polish bezel, different bracelet too. Great job on this video as always.
I can live with Hardlex. I'd prefer sapphire for the price, but I've had a Hardlex Seiko for over a year and haven't scratched the crystal yet. I'd rather them upgrade the bracelet if they're pushing upmarket.
I rarely get excited over Seikos but to me the SRPE is simply the best Seiko at any price point and as close as you can get to the perfect watch. It is decidedly youthful, minimalist, flawlessly and efficiently executed, unpretentious, versatile, iconic and even elegant. I cannot find a single flaw (and I used to always find some).
A few weeks ago I posted on WUS that this is a $150 watch and I wouldn’t pay full retail. Then I did. Marc shipped mine on Friday. The plan is to put it on a grey NATO. Did the Uncle Seiko require any modding, or was it a clean fit?
For a Seiko Automatic in the affordable side, the time can go - 20 to +30 in a matter of 2-3 days. So do I have adjust time manually every day? I have never owned such a watch. Which kind of watches should I go for if I don't want to adjust time in more than once a year?
Hello I'm a beginner watch collector and I just picked up my first Seiko watch the SRPE57 from Macy's for $200 USD. Do you have any other suggestions under $500?
I just don’t get why everyone has to have everything in one watch and if they’ve already attained a finer watch themselves it’s the only watch that they wear. There’s a time to wear every kind of watch from a this Seiko in a coffee shop of a Hamilton Khaki Field watch in your back yard, a Submariner on your boat and to restaurants or a Patek Grand Complications out to a special occasion. Over time a person could amass a few dozen watches some considered fine, some entry luxury and some that achieve excellence in the mainstream and it becomes not only a collection but a wardrobe. It’s better than being one watch. All of your watches are your style. This is a great watch.
Best overall dress sport watch at 40 mm size that has appealing specifications, within this price range. However, it should have a screw down crown and sapphire crystal.
Love it, bezeless looks superb! Very Tudoresqe. Would prefer it without the day/date (or date only at 6) not a fan of dates, but guess they add to the practicality for the forgetful folk. Cheers 👍🏻
I really like the grey dial version but gonna wait until l can get a JDM version with Japanese day wheel. Also wondering if Seiko is going to start introducing some dressier watches in the new Seiko 5 lineup
This actually out does the Tudor bb smooth bezel. Better crown, classier case shape, anthracite sunray dial, 20mm lug, drilled lug, amazing lume, 4r is my friend. Just add AR Sfire crystal. This just kills the Tudor.
I think one of the reasons this watch is appealing is I'm SO tired of Diver Watches and their bezels. I like a plain, clean, Bauhaus bezel like this one.
Totally agree mate. It's as if everyone is constantly underwater with the amount of dive watches.
Clean/Minimalist ≠ Bauhaus. Agree with you that there are too many dive watches out there though. Almost every new microbrand sells a diver.
Totally agree! There are so many diver style watches out these days.. For me personally they are becoming a eye sore 👀

Most honest review I've seen! Just made me subscribe 👌 Me i personally love this watch! Kind of reminds me of a tudor blackbay, Simple but elegant 😏👌⌚
I can live with Hardlex. I'd prefer sapphire for the price, but I've had a Hardlex Seiko for over a year and haven't scratched the crystal yet. I'd rather them upgrade the bracelet if they're pushing upmarket.
Agreed! 100%👌🏽
Instead, they’ll upgrade neither and push upmarket anyway.
I like the two tone color or solid gold tone if they have it! But this is nice when you really look at it!
Excellent video man!!! Great intro.
Looks fantastic on the grey suede!
I've seen some versions of this watch without the Made In Japan on the face. Are some not made in Japan?
I’m loving that tobacco stained fluco strap. Where can I find it? What’s the strap style name?
Thank you so much. I probably will buy it because of this video.
Regards from Germany.
Quartz
I just got the blue SRPE with a nato strap. I wonder if any Strapcode bracelets would fit it?
Nice Video! Do you think that a Uncle Seiko Rubber strap would fit this kind of watch?
Hello I'm a beginner watch collector and I just picked up my first Seiko watch the SRPE57 from Macy's for $200 USD. Do you have any other suggestions under $500?
I have 3 of the DressKX.. Soon too be 4! They are almost the perfect watch! If it had Sapphire.. Then this would be a tough watch too beat 👌
Actually it's the SRPE51K1, not the SRPE61 because of the metal wristband.
Thank you, I too was confused that which 5 SRPE series comes with this band..
Is this band the default stock you get with the watch ?
Cheers 👍🏻
I really like that U.S. bracelet on this.
Seiko will sell a boat load of these for sure.
I really like the grey dial version but gonna wait until l can get a JDM version with Japanese day wheel. Also wondering if Seiko is going to start introducing some dressier watches in the new Seiko 5 lineup
What's so good about Kanji?
Once my watch budget recovers from recent purchases I am looking at precisely this model.
Excellent!
Just bought one. There's one srpe51 left on Amazon for $208 😎
This actually out does the Tudor bb smooth bezel. Better crown, classier case shape, anthracite sunray dial, 20mm lug, drilled lug, amazing lume, 4r is my friend. Just add AR Sfire crystal. This just kills the Tudor.
How difficult was it to install the Uncle Seiko bracelet?
