I was the drummer for The Seeds after Rick left the band in 1968. They were very much a garage band, as we rehearsed in Sky's garage at his home in Malibu's Big Rock area. One song from our show in July '68 at Melodyland (across the street from Disneyland) is on TH-cam, Satisfy You. When searching for it, look for the one that has a picture of a pretty girl holding a drink. Unfortunately, it is audio only. Carl Belknap

The Seeds have been one of my favorite bands since I heard them. Thanks for giving them attention. Sky Saxon played a pretty great show at Coney Island High in New York in '96 with the Mysterians an Mark Lindsey of the Raiders. All time!

Boy this sure brings back memories. I used to work at a radio station in Sacramento and played a 45 (record) for Tony King, one of our well known DJs..It was KXOA. Tony really liked the sound of THE SEEDS, and brought them to to Sacramento to play at THE GOVERNOR'S HALL concert. I met Sky and the band there and, ended up dating Sky, once I moved to Los Angeles, back in 1968. He was living in Malibu and I was living in HOLLYWOOD. I dated him for a few months, and traveled with them to various concerts in the Los Angeles area. I ended up getting married and lost contact with Sky in 1969. Many years later (about 2008) my grand daughter found Sky's web page..So for fun, I tried to contact him. To my surprise, Sky actually called me a few hours after writing him. He said he had been in Europe and was now living in Mt. Shasta area. He wanted to know if I was still in contact with anyone in the music business, that he could get a hold of and wanted to start up again. Unfortunately I was not any help to him at all. I completely forgot all about it, until I read that Sky had a heart attack while he was performing on stage and died. I believe it was in Texas. Very fond memories of those old HIPPY DAYS..He was always a very caring man, and it was great knowing him and the band.

+ Judy Anstess: Judy, great post, gal. I'm prob. a few years behind you (68 right now in '23) but like most teen kids back then, I had a very keen eye and ear as to what bands were doing and the personnel in them. You sure lived in the "bullseye" of the era, I'd say. I'm glad to hear that Sky was a really good and caring man to you. Everytime I see him on rerun clips, etc. he sure looks to me to be "too stoned and too far gone" to have been much of a guy one could relate to on a personal level. Lord knows I took the party train for too long and almost didn't make it back. But...a happy ending there, thank The Good Lord. Anyhow......it IS too bad that he left us too early. It would be so cool to have him weigh in on much of what was going on during those insane times. What a weekly show THAT could possibly have been. But we'll catch up with him down the road. Thanks Judy, for speaking up. God Bless us all .....jbeinarizona

@@joelewing4498 I honestly don't remember Sky being all that loaded. Maybe a little weed, but that's about it. I went with him and the band in their BLUE BUS, to a concert in Whittier, California, and THE SEEDS played with GARY PUCKETT AND THE UNION GAP. I completely lost touch with Sky when he moved to Europe, and never heard from him again, until my grand daughter gave me some info about Sky and his new band. I was seriously surprised to hear from him, just a few minutes after trying to contact him, through the info on one of his albums. When I was dating him, I had a lot of contacts in the music business. I worked part time for Concert Promoter BILL GRAHAM in San Francisco. There wasn't many famous bands, that I didn't meet many times, while working for BILL GRAHAM..It was definitely an exciting time. Believe it or not, I was never really into the drug scene during that time. If you enjoy things from the PEACE-LOVE-DOPE era of the San Francisco/Height-Ashbury times, you will enjoy watching a DOCUMENTARY about RODNEY BINGHAMHIMER (probably spelled that wrong)..I think HBO did the DOCUMENTARY and it was called THE UNOFFICIAL MAYOR OF SUNSET STRIP...It is a really good one with lots of interviews of famous bands, etc. Boy, those were the GOOD OLD DAYS. I really missed those days. Sky was 11 years older than me. I am just an OLD FART NOW...LOL I am 75. I just now read this ..

Thanks for you having taken the time to make a video about The Seeds. I ended up here doing a search for the THE SEEDS PUSHIN' TOO HARD documentary, so your video definitely fills a void for those seeking info about the band. I just recently purchased the 2-LP 50th Anniversary Edition of their 1st album, and quickly found myself grabbing their other ones on vinyl as well. I've kind of had a peculiar relationship with their music going back to circa 1984, and even had "The Flower Punk" multiple CD box-set for a while. Your video is very informative, respectfully done, and is overall everything I'd hope the documentary will be (when I eventually see it), except it will have actual interviews with the band, and other scene makers of the time. Thanks!

I don't know how versed you are in 60's garage rock but ---oh wait you just called it freak beat. Freak beat is more a Euro term for the Uk or Euro equivalent of garage like Q65 or Wimple Winch. Acid Rock? Not even close-that's like Hendrix or other heavier bluesy rock. You could call the Seeds PopSike before they are freakbeat or acid rock. But not even really that either and not that that really matters in the end anyway. No one does r&r like the Seeds alright..Used to love that song Evil Hoodoo. It's cool that a chick is doing these kinds of videos even tho there's a lot more music out there from the 60's that's cool. You state you're a punker so you should out the Sonics, the Music Machine, the Electric Prunes, any Pebbles, Boulders, Highs in the Mid60's or Back from the Grave comps . The UK and Euro freakbeat scene was great with the aforementioned bands and Pretty Things, The Troggs , any Rubbles, Circus Days, Electric SugarCube Flashbacks or Electric Sitar Headswirlers comps. I find that with this kind of music, you can't just dabble-ya gotta go all in. There's a fuck ton of other 60's Pop~Sike bands out there. Some of my favorites are WCPAEB, The Factory/Norman Conquest/Peter& the Wolves/the Bunch(interchangeble, all had 1 central figure-John Pantry who is a genius), Sagittarius, the Zombies, Blonde On Blonde somebody stop me, I could go on talking about this subject for days.. Beau Brummels, Left Banke, the 13th floor elevators.....~Peace~ July, Kaleidoscope(USA version)..

Times were changing by the 60s , especially 63 - 64 . By 65 , about a year after The Beatles had arrived , and the British Invasion , Motown / RnB , Serf/ Beach Music , such as , The Beach Boys , Jan n Dean all genres , and various sounds of different gents was coming into fruition , which the various inflections of instruments with fringe instrumental experimentations roots go back to the jazz of the 1920s when a mixture of sounds were being played by various instrument itself .
By 1960 a serf guitar playing musician by a man named Dick Dale was the indo - pre / psych pioneer , especially in laying the guitar . You could say Chuck Berry falls somewhat in the guitar rill type genre . A Great early proto psych tune was by 1962-63 called " Walk Don't Run " , and db me can't bring the band that played a tune game changer in alot of ways , and is very overlooked .

Otherwise garage is only represented in my collection by some tracks on my earlier Pretty Things and Master's Apprentices comps. The Seeds were great. Daryl "Beethoven" Hooper's keyboard sounds are fabulous, as is Sky's vocal, really awful (to the oldies of the time) which is what makes it so great. "Evil Hoodoo" i swear could pass for 80s underground paisley. Love The Seeds, the Big Beat reissue CDWIKD 308 has a very informative booklet. Gonna check Future after watching this - great video.

Hi I wasn't a big fan of the Seeds most of their songs sounded to similar .Most of these garage /psych bands though had some great moments but lacked consistency of quality material .My three favourite bands were The Music Machine .They looked great as well and had their own unique style .We the People had some fantastic tracks " In the past .When i arrive, Half of Wednesday , were just three of a host of other great songs . and The Sonics .The Witch as to be the first proto punk song .I can only imagine what people thought of that when it was first played around 1961 .I liked some of the Electric Prunes stuff as well particularly " Underground "lp.I find it weird that a host of these young garage bands were trying to copy the UK bands The Rolling Stones ,The Beatles etc .In my opinion The Rolling Stones were boring .I don't like one song they ever did .The Beatles were better but not that great either .The Kinks were probably better but they lacked the energy of those young American kids who produced some great psychedelia as well Think CA Qunitett , Frumious bandersnatch Dirty filthy mud etc Anyway we all have opinions Before i go can you tell me that name of the opening track in the credits .It doesn't sound like a typical Seeds track Thanks in advance take care
