I used to match colors for a living. I did this matching for many, many companies including nearly all automotive companies (foreign and domestic), Boeing, Harley Davidson, Indy 500 cars, and matched all the colors for the rides at Disney. As far as sports venues go, I have matched the blue for the U.S. open tennis courts and had done some work for major league baseball helmets. I do know that bright, chromatic, reds can be hard to match and was curious as to who supplied them with the paint for the Wings' logo......because in 35 years of color matching, I never once did anything for a hockey team. I had no idea a hockey rink was so labor intensive with their setup.
How did you find yourself doing that? I’m 21 and I work at Home Depot as the full time “paint man” I match peoples colors, mix their paint. Where would be the next step?
You know hockey season is upon us when they get the rink good and ready for the upcoming season. So excited. 1:21 I don't think people realize how impressive that is with a 3 inch brush. Cutting ability is spot on here. Kudos to whoever that is. P.S. We want "HOCKEYTOWN" back at center ice!
This was awesome. Last month I actually hand brushed the red for our rink, and I kind of wish our centre logo was a stencil and brushed instead of a decal although it’s a lot more work. 😊 It’s just a little bit nicer looking even with the ice layers over it. It was my first time painting the ice since I just began as a Zamboni driver last fall, but I have a steady hand from many house painting endeavours. 😁
Love The fact y'all can get it that perfect especially on days when both the Red Wings and Pistons have home games and you guys can get it that clean and efficient
jsyk... not every hockey arena paints everything. Rogers Place in Edmonton. the logo at the centre is a plastic like logo they put onto the ice and then put more water over it. same with their red line and the advertisements on the ice. Blue Line and Goal area are painted yes as are the faceoff circles.
How often do they lay and paint the ice? I know during the season they put a cover over the ice and lay the basketball court over it if it's an arena with hockey and basketball
Amazing so much of that is painted by hand, sure they have the outlines but still amazes me.
As a painter I found this very satisfying. LGRW
I enjoyed watching this so gosh darn much!!
Fun to watch. Love it. Specially wing wheel... precision work.
Awesome job fellas let's get it done this year

Through good teams and bad, there's always been the Winged Wheel. GLORY TO THE WINGED WHEEL!
The amount of peace and serenity that gave me was awesome
wow, the time and effort, and all done by hand, much respect to the ice/paint crew of every arena
That is pretty awesome! Never seen that before. Very interesting 👌
Best team out there!
Greatest logo ever!!

That was ace. Thanks for the upload
props to the guys .... so much work to get it look just right
Love The fact y'all can get it that perfect especially on days when both the Red Wings and Pistons have home games and you guys can get it that clean and efficient
They don’t redo the ice every time during the season. They build the basketball court on top of the ice.
Satisfaction right their so beautiful! Can’t wait for this year!
Absolutely gorgeous! Best Logo hands down in all of sports. Don’t care what anyone says
Great job guys. I paint everyday. This was fun to watch!
Thank you maintenance crew 🔥🔥🔥
The best logo and jersey in all sports!!!

The painters did great but so did the foley artist 😉
Awesome stuff
Pure Art
Go wings !
Is that has to be done before each game?! What if Saturday Pistons and Sunday Red Wings? A big crew is employed just for this I guess.
As a painter this is kind of a dream job to me…
It needs the hockeytown in the middle
And do these guys get rings for championship seasons? Cause this is truly amazing! Good shit
Tip: spray your ice before painting it will be a lot smoother to stroke the brush without the frost layer.
If there could be a 45min or longer version of this thatd be great.
LETS GO REDWINGS 🐙
well I wasn't expecting any ASMR in this video so it was a nice surprise.
Stencils but there is some art to it.
So the ice floor is actually only a very thin line of ice from that water that they spray on in the beginning?
How often do they lay and paint the ice? I know during the season they put a cover over the ice and lay the basketball court over it if it's an arena with hockey and basketball
Are you guys the only NHL team with hand painted logos? I know most places/ teams use vinyl decals. This is old school I love it.
This seems so fun
💪LGRW 💪🤗👍
Watched the short. Came to see them finish the logo😂
The should do a black ice and white puck
There’s no way they do this in between every basketball and hockey game
They don’t lmao. They keep it painted underneath the basketball rink. They just take the basketball rink down and set up the boards
It looked like they painted over the floor with the white instead of the first layer of ice.
Wow, how much do those guys get paid for painting? Do they re-paint every time? That's 40-ish layers of paint per season! Or do they remove it first?
So they remove all the paint from the year before and start from scratch again?
Yup
the ice comes out after the season and is reinstalled a few months later.
How often do they have to paint the ice?
Good question
My guess is just once a year, before beginning of the season.
Miss the Joe
Why don’t they just get two rinks one for pistons and one for red wings
Millions of dollars
Oh, just casually painting the most beautiful logo in all of professional sports!!! 2:06
Hockey ASMR
Accidental asmr
This has got to be irritating to due with the NBA season also going on and having this work be taken down to create the court😭
They place an insulated layer on top of the ice and then build the basketball court on top of it. The ice isn't dismantled during the switches.
Pizza pizza.
Soon with AI I fear this will all be done by robots
LGRW.
No fun music over top?
Crazy that all this is handpainted with household paintbrushes
Yea pretty cool eh
for the love of god, please get a new goal horn I'm begging you
