    A great explanation and I do take Jardiance but not for diabetic reasons but for the fact that I have some cardiac issues such as aortic valve stenosis, and some mitral valve incompetence. Now I live in Australia and being a retired Registered Nurse I know of the side effects and I have researched this medication a lot and I do take precautions such as a regular check of my blood glucose and ketone levels using the special dip sticks for same. As that gangrene issue I also take great care of my "personal" hygiene using plain and medicated soap (Cetaphil) to wash my genital and groin areas. I hope that anyone else reading this comment may like to do as I do to keep a check on those side effect issues.

    Was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in September 2020 after routine 6 month blood work came back with glucose over 300 and A1C around 12. My doctor prescribed me 1000 mg Metformin twice a day morning and evening, along with 25 mg jardiance in the morning once a day, and 100 mg Januvia once a day in the morning. After just 4 months on this medicine regiment along with a lower card diet and a little more exercise my A1C lowered to 6.5 per my January 2021 blood work. In just a little over 4 months jardiance and januvia cut my A1C level in half. Have had minimal if any side effects from both of them for anyone interested in taking jardiance. Thanks for taking the time to create and post this informative about Jardiance. If you could also create and post one about Januvia like this one if you haven’t already that would be great. Have read in a few online blogs the possible long term side effects of Januvia like congestive heart failure etc. and the FDA warning they came out with a few years ago relating to that which concerns me just a little of course lol. Especially when I also take 20 mg lisinopril twice a day for hypertension which keeps my blood pressure low and in check, but with a prior history of hypertension for the last few years in myself and a family history of hypertension the possible long term side effects of Januvia that I’ve been reading online concerns me. Thanks in advance for your help and thanks again for creating and posting this informative video about Januvia.

      Thank you for this post. I'm presently taking 100mg of Januvia , after previously taking Janumet. The metaformin portion of that combo was causing me stomach issues. Now I am supposed to add 20mg of Jardiance and 20mg of Lipitor to my daily routine. So you helped settle my fears of Jardiance , but started fears of Januvia 😩 Just kidding , but I have been delaying my start date.

    • @Tes7000
      @Tes7000 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was on Januvia and 850mg of metformin twice a day for years, but just a couple of weeks ago, my doctor replaced Januvia with farxiga. My doctor said that Januvia has turned out to not be that effective as a medication, plus I was complaining about the difficulty I was having losing weight.

      I just started mine a few weeks ago. I am definitely urinating more but only during the day daytime. Which I’m guessing is why they say take it in the morning. Is definitely helping me with my blood sugar levels. I have been checking my Keytone levels, and there are mild ketones present. I’ve actually lost a couple of pounds I figure that is water. My morning fasting blood sugars are improved by about 20 mg/dl. I am not taking metformin or any other diabetes medicine. I too, was a little worried to take it, and I finally decided I might as well try to see if it helps because the elevated blood sugars are deafly not good. So far other than peeing more than usual. No side effects. I have a question for the pharmacist. How does it help my heart.

    • @sunnydee78
      @sunnydee78 ปีที่แล้ว

      I started taking it a week ago.. I’m also on metformin 1000 mg 2x a day. It has improved my readings as well especially my morning fasting. Not sure about the weight lost but it’s too early to tell.

  • @cbybailey
    @cbybailey ปีที่แล้ว

    I went into the ER for congestive heart failure 18 months ago. I do not nor have I ever had an A1C over 6. Currently, it is 5.4 So taking Jardiance is primarily for protecting my heart. My concern is for the UTI and how to prevent that long-term.

    • @HealthRX
      @HealthRX  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One of the ways to mitigate UTIs or reduce the risk is to make sure you are well hydrated all the time, drinking lots of water, unless of-course you are on some kind of fluid retention.

    • @varyolla435
      @varyolla435 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Heart failure and fluid overload - hypervolemia - go hand in hand obviously. Drugs like Jardiance act to flush glucose from your system via your kidneys. Glucose however is an osmotic and thus = it takes fluid with it. So a potential side effect of Jardiance is lower blood pressure owing to = volume reduction as you are peeing more often losing fluid in the process.
      So your doctor is as you noted using a drug developed for blood sugar control as an apparent mechanism for controlling your circulatory system volume - much as other antidiabetic drugs like saxagliptin are being prescribed for "off-label" use vis a vis weight loss which is a common side effect of it. Reducing circulatory volume subsequently reduces cardiac workload putting less stress on your heart.
      So as noted by others you want to be careful with your fluid intake as glucose as well as being an osmotic is also a nutrient for = bacteria. So more glucose in your urine and thus bladder can be a breeding ground for bacteria unless you keep yourself flushed out - without risking fluid overload given your underlying heart failure. If your daily fluid intake is restricted you can try getting yourself on a toileting schedule. Urinate more frequently to try to empty your bladder and thus flush that glucose-rich urine out before it can buildup to allow bacterial growth and hence UTI's, Also be careful with personal hygiene to keep groin area clean to reduce bacterial presence.
      So long as you eat okay your risk for low blood sugar should be minimal. As with all things health it represents a balancing of risks. Your risk for possible fluid overload is greater than your risk for hypoglycemia from taking Jardiance. 🤔
