    ENGLISH TRANSLATION:
    0:44 - 0:59
I'm wearing my hair this way and dressed like this because we're going to attend Mass, [today] marks 7 years since the passing of my brother Jesus Antonio. My family will be dressed in a similar fashion.
    1:00 - 2:12
In the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, brides are commonly referred to as 'brides of gold' (or 'golden brides) because on this occasion (a wedding), the women adorn themselves with all the gold they've acquired [over time], alongside [the gold] given to [them] by their parents as part of [their] dowry to welcome this new part of [their] lives. The traditional wedding dress of an Istmeña(1) is embroidered in colors but our region is very mestizo(2), so we've adopted our own traditions and European traditions by integrating the huipil(3) and enaguas(4) with the white colors associated with a bride.
Our dress is unique, we don't dress in a European style, we dress like an istmeña.
As little girls, our mothers teach us to take care of our hair and not to cut it because wearing long braids is a source of pride, it demonstrates manners and shows that we are women who take care of our appearance. Although we might be strong-willed, determined and brave, we can also be coquettish and vain.
(1)= A diminutive for a woman from the Isthmus, Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, Mexico.
(2)= closer ties to their indigenous roots
(3)= a loose-fitting tunic, generally made from two or three rectangular pieces of fabric, which are then joined together with stitching, ribbons, or fabric strips, with an opening for the head and, if the sides are sewn, openings for the arms.
    (4)= petticoats
NOTE: Keep in mind that this is a loose translation but the meaning remains the same. If there's any questions in which English speakers wish for me to clarify, feel free to reply to my comment. I hope this will bring more interest to these videos and will reach a wider audience.
