Caste was just merely profession based hierarchy not based on birth according to Indian/Hindu scriptures. Have an open mind, don't automatically dismiss somebody as "having an agenda". Yes hinduism does have problems with casteism, but first of all, things haven't always been this way, previously people could change their varna. And anyway, efforts are being made to make things better. You can't expect such things to dissappear overnight. Eventually, as intermarriage becomes more common these things will certainly come to an end.
BJP has very less representation in TN. Right? Dravidian parties take pride in Periyar and boast of a caste free system. Right? Then why do they still have caste based census and caste based reservation?

Periyar has made revolutionary efforts for the abolishment of caste starting from the 1920s self respect movement. He has defenitely made a colossal impact and changed the view of how Tamil Nadu sees the caste system.
