      Will it walk around or other movements? If not, the reason for that will be there would have to be a lot of programming and testing for it to move around.

      As someone who has worked, and whose wife still works in the film industry, prop artist get paid a lot, finding a prop artist like her who made something for a small studio is a gem. While she has donated her time and money, she could easily list this video, this prop, and the movie they make in her portfolio and it would catch the eye on any major film studio that would pay her well for her work.

    15:37 I've been right there. In high school we once made a group project that involved making a giant papermache tortoise. We ended up making it slightly too big, so we couldn't get it through the door to the classroom for the presentation. Eventually, I held a solo presentation with a tortoise with a cracked shell. The others ditched the presentation.

When they begin animating him (and yes, I've gendered said robot because it feels like a "he") the personality you've already imbued him with will guide the animators I'm sure. This project is amazing. I hope you get more requests like this because you deserve this kind of recognition for your artistry and ability.

    I LOVE WATCHING RAPID PROTOTYPING, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT JUST BECOMES THE PROJECT. Seriously, that leg/hip system and, and how fast you figured it out, gets me on a personal level. I'm pretty sure I inspired LEGO to do Star Wars licensed sets after I submitted a 'walking' leg-articulated AT-ST made from assorted parts. It more 'shuffled' than 'walked', but I've had a design thing for counter balanced leg systems ever since. Also... totally saw the robot head getting stuck in the door coming by the 8:00 mark XD.

    • @zeus04
      @zeus04 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

      @@lucbloom I very much agree. I already had a bad taste in my mouth when they donated the PC to LTT for free! At least then she got exposure in a video from LTT if I remember correctly. I feel worried that more and more companies will learn to avoid paying fair compensation to artists as this trend continues.

    • @whoatemychocolate
      @whoatemychocolate 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      @zeus04 I don't think this is comparable to LTT since the proceeds of that project went to charity (as far as I know) so it's not like they made a free thing that was used to generate profits for LTT. Also, personally, I found out about Nerdforge through that LTT video and I'm sure that was the case for other people too, so that was definitely beneficial for both channels. I completely agree though that if this is a commercial project they should have paid, especially if they're going to scan the robot.

    • @zeus04
      @zeus04 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@whoatemychocolateYes, I agree that is an other thing entirely. That time it just felt a bit "uneven". The video would have been better if there was some kind of exchange benefitting both parties (as LTT has done with NAS hardware etc.) The free model for the Movie is outrageous. T
      his is not a acceptable way to treat artists and it sets a very bad example to everyone in the industry, especially smaller studios and workshops not yet established.
      The fact that she seemed to shop supplies for the project and general supplies for herself (the tape) suggests that they weren't even compensated for materials.
      One thing that puzzles me is if there is a transfer of IP rights for the model, if not, the Movie studio could be charged with huge license fees after the fact...

    • @artcasual99
      @artcasual99 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +29

      According to her in the comments, they (the film makers) offered to pay but they (Nerdforge) turned them down because they wanted to make something they enjoyed and was their own design. The film makers were 100% wiling to pay but were instead given a free robot.

    Really like how you used all your skills and moved out of your comfort zone to build this. Note on the spackle usage: You normally have to sand down with rough grit (80-100) then a finer grit (200+) when finishing it, BUT to help with smoothing it out before hand use a little Dawn dishsoap (others do not work as well, but test and see) in the spackle mixture you apply. It does help with the amount of your favorite activity... SANDING :D
    Again, hats off and well done to you all and your studio.
