  • Sony finally updated the Sony a6x00 line...but there's a catch..a couple of catches actually.
    Is the Sony a6700 the best camera upgrade if you're coming from the a6400 or a6600?
    If you've got the ZV-E10, should you have gone with the ZV-E1 or get this camera???
    There's a ton of options, a ton of unanswered questions, and we're diving into all that in this video!

    I haven’t found the dynamic stab to be as good as everyone makes it out to be. I know its extra work but catalyst browse gives much better results.

      @DianaGladney  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Just handholding, Active works great with the IBIS (on the ZV-E1) but walking? Hands down the Dynamic Active is the best. Idk what kind of shots you may need the stabe for but from tripod like handheld shots to walking shots, it's worked wonders lol
      I think Catalyst Browse is magical though lol

    @JonasPetri ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Something you should take into consideration is that the ZV-E1 is almost $1000 more expensive than the A6700, while not providing that many extra features and actually missing some things hybrid shooters need (like an EVF, mode dial and front dial)!

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I totally get where you're coming from, but I did take price into consideration lol That's when you have to ask yourself how much is your time and your team's time, and being more efficient worth?
      The $800 difference between the ZV-E1 and the a6700 isn't a small number, but neither is the time and money invested in the video content I create in my business. So we're saving far more than $800 with far more features listed in the ZV-E1 that we're actually using vs what the a6700 offers. So, it more than pays for itself, especially if you're making money from your video content. The buttons are irrelevant to me personally because video, S&Q, are the occasional photo are the 3 most common features a video creator would use. So a button vs dial is a personal preference and neither is slowing you down in real life scenarios. The dial isn't faster than the button, it's just if you prefer it or not. It's like an on/off switch vs button. They're the same, just different mechanisms to enable the same thing.
      If you're a solo hybrid shooter, you probably do value physical buttons and an EVF, and I get that. I've used that EVF before, and it's not great, to be honest. It's there, which is helpful if you need it, but not great because it's not sharp enough to really judge why you're choosing to use the eyepiece to begin with. You're still ending up relying on your graphs, zebras, focus peaking, and focus map. If photos is your jam, that probably matters to you, but that's why I'm very vocal that we only cover video content on the channel. Hence the Video Simplified brand name lol
      So, there's for a video specific creator there's more benefits going with a camera like the ZV-E1 vs a hybrid style body. Just boils down to use case but for me, we've spent far more in time which is money than $800 just waiting on stabilizing clips in the span of a few months.

    Thanks for highlighting a variety of issues in this video, Diana! I know lots of full frame users are excited about the A7C ii dropping, but you're the first professional to mention the possibility of the RX! I don't have RX money at this time, but I appreciate the beauty of that camera design and what it produces. It's wild to see the range of camera options to choose from - perhaps, TOO MANY?! A good problem to have :-)

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  ปีที่แล้ว

      My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed this video!
      I think the A7C being next makes sense but Sony has done some surprise moves in the last couple of years so I'm about 70% leaning an A7C camera but we've all been completely wrong before after we were all "so sure" lol
      The camera lineups easily become a bit cluttered at times but I'd rather have more options than limited options, otherwise I'd be less happier having to carry around an A7S 3 if a camera like the ZV-E1 wasn't around, and vice versa for travel journalists who need a camera like the A7S 3 or FX3 but only might have the ZV-E1 lol. So, it all works out to our benefit in the end.

    I think I am becoming a all-arounder so the a6700 is a better fit for me. The other day I was shooting photo/video outside a very light rain started. The ZV-E10 went inside my jacket and never came out again. The a6700 being somewhat sealed would have stayed out longer to get more work done. The ZV-E1 has the same problem for me.
    It would also be nice to peek in the EVF just to make sure the colors are right, the screen does not always show the image correctly so I have to trust and use other parts of the E10/E1.
    It may not have Dynamic Stab but it does have IBIS and with a OSS lens I think it will be good for me. I heard the Dynamic Stab only works with Sony lenses but I can't thing that would be true.
    I don't have to buy any new lenses or sell any.
    Touch screen, 4k 120 are all sauce for the goose I am good at working the menu now.
    Oh, I do like how the top of the camera looks like a real camera with the dials and the switches and the big grip lol.

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I feel you on that, that’s good you’re really aware of your use case. Me on the other hand? It’s raining, we’re all heading for cover lol Me, the camera and everything else too 😂 I think Tony and Chelsea Northrup or iPhoneso put their ZV-E1 in the rain?? They’re braver than me lol
      Sauce for the duck, I like that! Lol How have I never heard that phrasing before lol 😂
      Yeah, the Dynamic Active is not limited to only Sony lenses. The only new Sony feature with a lens limitation is to focusing breathing compensation, that requires So y lenses but everything is free game. Hope that clears that up.
      I can see as an all arounder the EVF will come in handy but I’ve never used it in my cameras, so it’s never been something to miss.

  • @charlesjiang5243
    @charlesjiang5243 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    You're the first creator to mention about dynamic stabilization not being included. I just assumed all the latest Sony software is automatically going to tacked on... That's really strange of them not to include it since it has to the same chip as the E1. . . I already preordered the 6700 (upgrading from 6400) but that's really disappointing and I'm a little irritated none of the reviewers mentioned it

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, my nerdiness is such that I still enjoy reading manuals lol I did double-check soon as the camera manual came out to confirm my suspicions and unfortunately, they were right - no product showcase mode or dynamic active stabe on the a6700. It's definitely gotta be due to market them segmenting the market on the APS-C lineup. I would have assumed at least product showcase mode, but guess they listened to all the "professionals" that raved features like that were "gimmicks" lol Whereas us regular content creators and content creating entrepreneurs use the heck out of the new features regularly. Sucks it's not in the a6700 though.
      I'm also pretty sure there's a level of things they want mentioned, per the press releases, when a new camera drops vs consumer comparisons. I suppose that's up to us to do our own due diligence to a point. And to be very fair to my fellow creators and some friends that get these cameras, you can only cover so much in the timeframe you get the camera lol I'm sure they're not purposefully omitted stuff.

    • @charlesjiang5243
      @charlesjiang5243 ปีที่แล้ว

      There were some features that the reviews didn't mention that I thought were pretty cool though. 1) flicker suppression in video 2) focus stacking in photography 3) the ability to set a timer for auto long exposures.

    I’m probably gonna get the white chocolate ZV-E1 because of you it’s so crispy lol thanks for sharing from a creator’s perspective because I don’t care about photography… only video!! Not many people review from a creator’s POV. I was deciding between that and the FX30 but I want something that can handle low light at times. Do you know which one is better with low light?

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad to be of service! ⚡️ The White Chocolate Edition ZV-E1 easily is my most favorite camera to date! Yeah, a video creators POV is all I care about too.
      As far as low light video, any videos you see on the A7S 3 or FX3 will match shot for shot of the ZV-E1’s performance. The same for the Sony FX30 and the a6700. Lenses and what you’re exposing for will make up the difference. And to be honest, the videos where they zoom in 300% is like comparing hairs on a fly smh no difference that’ll be remotely noticeable. It’s be different if it was the ZV-E10, but the a6700 is fine. Now, a6700 vs ZV-E1, maybe a small difference but not a major leap. But to be continued until I can test the a6700 myself.

      Ya know I really wonder if the ZV-E10 Mark 2 will be all we hope whenever it does come out simply based on how the ZV-1 Mark 2 was handled. It definitely wasn't an ideal update, and little more than a firmware update to be honest. If the ZV-1 Mark 2 didn't get 4k 60p, I wonder if the ZV-E10 Mark 2 does have it, if it'll be cropped like how it was on the A74. But we shall see, fingers crossed it's still awesome and has the wow factor of the ZV-E10 when it came out.

    Solid arguments overall and from a creator's perspective I would agree. I did pre-order the A6700, but I am a hybrid shooter, and I have gotten accustomed to the EVF, so after trying the ZV-E1 for a week, I sent it back. I am too used to the EVF and dials/buttons. I split between photos and video at least 50/50 if not a bit more on the photo side. Also, not a professional this is just for me, and I like lightweight/small setups for travel.

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nice! If you're a hybrid shooter, there's a lot more hybrid friendly considerations made on the a6700.
      lol I hear ya about the EVF lol I used mine maybe 3-4 times in the years I've had my cameras with it since 2019, but if you know it's a go-to for you, it's definitely gonna be missed. I think you made a great choice for your use case.
      Small & Lightweight are my top priorities lol so I 100% get that too! The weight between the ZV-E10 and the ZV-E1 is light enough to not make me blink twice. The real test was going to be when I went out of town. Once I saw how it performed for a solid two weeks traveling, I was sold.

      Once you have a camera that meets your needs and hits your list of things you absolutely need to create videos easily and simply, any new camera upgrades go beyond hitting your needs and goes more into being more efficient as you create. That’s why you see creators like myself invest in two or more cameras or get a newer one.
      So, look at all the things you’re doing now and plan to do in your content with your camera, what are the main areas you’re running into issues with? If the new camera you’re considering solves your right now problems and helps you create faster and more efficiently (like for real, not just because you want something new) then go for it. If it doesn’t, there’s no rush in upgrading just yet.

    Great point about the dynamic active stab. You're exactly right. I want the A6700 price point wise, but I really want the ZV-E1. I also saw some tests where it looks like the A6700 (and FX30) have worse lowlight performance than the ZV-E10. That would make sense because they're squeezing more megapixels into the same sensor size, making each pixel smaller (this is a debated topic). It would be nice to see a comparison of the stabilization of the ZV-E1 and the A6700. Personally, I'm probably going to wait on a big upgrade until NEXT year's big vacation (this year's is already over).

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      These days tons of ZV-E1's pop up for a day before they're sold again lol for as low as $1750 to $1950 for a barely used Sony ZV-E1. So, if you check you can usually see them when they pop up.
      I'm not sure who did the testing on that but it's only 2MP difference between the FX30 sensor and the ZV-E10 and the newer cameras perform much better. The ZV-E10 can hold its own for sure but I can't see it being better than the a6700/FX30 for noise. I'm hoping to get my hands on an a6700 soon but no telling when it'll actually arrive in the office.
      There's still half a year left! lol I wouldn't wait 6-months, buy a camera, then take it out for traveling. Whichever camera you get, have 6-months of solid use and comfort using a camera will help any travel footage become that much better.

    I was anxiously awaiting the launch of the A6700 as an upgrade to my A6500. I know it has improvements over the A6500, but I have learned to live with and love my little guy. I have read the reviews which seemed to go all over. The best info is that if you are a stills photographer, then it won’t make that much difference. So, until I inadvertently drop the A6500, I will probably hold on to it. And if I ever get into video production, then maybe I will reconsider. Did you choose your current camera because it reminds you of white chocolate?

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally get that and it makes sense! Yeah, if the focus is photos, very little has changed over the years in the APS-C lineup and the a6500 already had eye AF in photos, so there's not much to write home about depending on the use case. But I almost never take photos, so it's not anything I ever consider when choosing a camera personally.
      I actually didn't choose the white camera because of my love for white chocolate lol but because it's the camera the store I was trading my gear at had. All they had was white and I usually go for all black gear and accessories but went with the white camera. Once I unboxed it, I REALLY liked the all white design. Just curious where you're hearing/seeing improved IBIS? It seems like it's rated the same (5 stops) as the a6500 and a6600. Thanks for a great vid!

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  ปีที่แล้ว

      For improved stabe (when I'm evaluating it personally), I don't go off how many stops of IBIS it's rated for, I go off of a few things: if there are updated mechanics vs older camera models, improvements of digital stabe in addition to the IBIS, and how it performs in real life use case scenarios vs folks doing the "ninja walking" type tests.
      When you compare it to any of the older a6x00 series cameras or the ZV-E10, it's greatly improved with the updated IBIS performance, less off a "jello effect" because the sensor is also updated, so the footage performs much better than any of the older cameras, and the new addition of having access to Catalyst Browse and the improved Digital Stabe on the camera (compared to even the ZV-E10) and it's an improvement.
      Is the base IBIS as improved as the A74 was over something like the A73? lol No, but the overall use case from the IBIS plus the improved digital stabe will give a much better overall stabilization performance. I would have LOVED to have seen the base IBIS boosted to be at Dynamic Active stabe level by itself, but that's wishful thinking at this point for the a6x00 series line. This is as good as it's gonna get for a long while lol.
      Hopefully, that's clears up what I mean when I say "improved stabilization". It's not just the IBIS by itself.

      I hear ya! If I thought more cameras were coming down the pipeline in the coming years for APS-C for Sony, like they come out for full frame, I might have stayed but a simple trade in made that an smooth and simple transition. The EVF is okay but since it's the same one the a6600, I know from experience it's nothing to write home about lol Depending on the use case, I'm sure it's nice to have but for me personally, not good enough to pass on the E1 for myself personally. Whenever I watch your videos, I get too excited about every camera you talk about. You provide us with full information. I want to start a TH-cam channel, creating gym videos and Instagram reels and photos as an influencer. I would like to know what kind of camera you would suggest. Thanks in advance.

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @titantrades-se8if lol Honestly, these days you can pick any camera you want and be well served. However, unless you own the gym or have the permission to film, most gym creators I know shoot on their smartphone or something like a Go Pro. So, you don't need to wait to get started, you can simply clean off your camera lenses on your phone, grab a tripod, wireless mic, and a small fill light and be recording tomorrow.
      So, lets say you have permission to film in any gym scenario you have in mind. I would say consider how large a venue you are recording in and if the person behind you, etc does or does not care that you're filming, and how much space you might need to get the shots you want and if it's waist up, full body shots, side shots, etc. The lens is going to be the key. You can get the a6700 or a ZV-E10 and a fantastic lens would be the Sigma 10-18mm f2.8. I recently used that combo for about a month, and it's the new go-to for wide APS-C lenses on Sony in my opinion above anything else.
      Now, lets say you go the full frame route, since you're not doing any product showcase mode type stuff, you can honestly go with an A7C Mark 1 or similar. The cameras mostly going to be on a tripod anyway, so stabilization isn't something to worry about. Sure you can grab a ZV-E1 or A7C Mark 2, and it'd still do all the same things.
      So, that's some general advice but here's a first step advice I'd recommend - log off TH-cam, take a deep breath lol and really list what your content goals are right now and try to think one, two, even three years into your content creation journey, what do you want? 1. Imagine you have a camera in your hand, you're walking into the gym to do the kind of content you imagine, what kind of stuff are you doing?
      2. The next time you're in the gym, take your phone and grab a simple cheap tripod from Wal-Mart or a local tech store, even a Best Buy, put your phone on the tripod and do what you'd do with a dedicated camera and record an actual video.
      2a. Do you find you have to zoom the camera out as wide as it will go and then still back the tripod up? OR are you constantly trying to zoom in to get certain angles?
      I can make recommendations all day, but there are some things you won't know personally until you get a camera in your hand yourself, in your environment to really know if it's ideal for you.
      TL;DR Don't think you'll have enough space on APS-C cameras? Go full frame; either the A7C Mark 1 if you're more budget conscious, or you can get the A7C 2 or ZV-E1. What you get depends on your goals, but you can literally start recording with your phone, a tripod, and a mic and start tomorrow. The only limitation are those you impose on yourself to hit those content goals.
      Feel free to reply back with any additional details and I can help you narrow down your options, but I never give blind recommendations. I believe you should invest in a camera based on your intended use case and the scenarios and environments you'll be in based on your goals vs only getting jazzed on the latest gear because it's "shiny" lol.
      Hope this helps.

      2. One of the main reasons I wanted a camera was to start a TH-cam channel and record mostly indoors.
      3. I aim to record and capture workouts, along with sharing pictures and videos on my Instagram. Essentially, I want to use it as a social media-friendly camera.

    Since the A6700 has improvements to the gyro data, will it not give you similar results to dynamic stabe with post production, like in catalyst browse? - I appreciate it's no where near as convenient as having this in the camera, but the end result could be the same right?

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I think the results could be even better because Catalyst Browse is amazing!
      Time Saving and Efficiency features is the thing to really pay attention to when you're looking at something like that.
      So for me the trade-off is less time re-shooting or processing footage in Catalyst Browse, or my video editor having to use Catalyst Browse, which slows down the overall workflow and how long it takes to crank out content. Now we don't have any of those issues, which makes recording certain aspects of videos faster and that means we can crank out videos even faster.
      So if you don't need to stabilize a bunch of clips like that often, it's not that big of a deal for the camera not to have it.
      However, I wouldn't want to go without it now though personally.

      @@DianaGladney I was looking at some comparisons and the active vs dynamic stabe is actually not a million miles away (for example Mark Bennett Camera Crisis comparison), I don't think it is a deal breaker for me. Hey, I'm not sure if I understood it right but you said the a6700 does NOT have active stabilization? On my camera's box and on the official sony website it says: Integrated 5-axis image stabilization with Active mode for video recording. I do think that that the a6700 has active sensor stabilization or were you talking about something else?

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, it has Active Stabe and IBIS but not the new Dynamic Active stabilization Sony came out with. That’s the variation I was discussing. So it’d be another level above Active but they chose to take it out.

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think for some hybrid creators, it'll depend on how much or what all they need/want from a photos side. Video wise, they're all neck and neck at this point, with minor differences. The fact that the a6700 didn't see much of an improvement on the photo side might mean they add some juice to the A7Cii depending on what sensor they give it.

    Loved the crayon analogy for 10bit to 8 bit…in truth, 8 or 12 crayons is more than ‘most’ people would need for some great art. Nice review; no perfect camera of course…well maybe the Sony x3000 for video back in its day! I quite like the 6700 for what it is, recognizing the concerns you noted. Really (!’) good stab…you likely have to go Panny or OM!

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      True but I think the base level of what most creators want and need is at a higher level now. Even if they can't do it right out the gate of owning this camera, the ceiling is high enough to not be an issue of "needing" to upgrade in a 1-3 years unless they just want to.
      On the x3000, you know I'm with Camera Conspiracies on that one lol We had everything lined up for Sony to easily take the cake for that market way back when the x3000 came out because it was so good. Just needed a few minor improvements. Fast-forward and it's a lost cause lol The a6700 is a dope camera and I think it'll serve a lot of people well. We're spoiled for options at this point.

    I wanna buy the a6700 but I’m worried I’ll become overwhelmed by all the tech. Just a few weeks ago I learned what full frame means (I thought full frame meant that a camera comes with a lens 🤣😂) The last camera I had was a point and shoot with 7ish megapixels from like 2008 lol. I just want something that takes both good pics and vids.

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      lol I remember when I was learning all this stuff I thought the different sensor sizes meant something was missing or when you'd record a video a corner or part would be missing or look weird smh lol You get past all that pretty quickly lol
      Well, there's plenty of beginner-friendly and simplified explanations of camera tech and even terms on the channel here.
      (I'd encourage you to check out this video here: th-cam.com/video/yFBeH-4mWvk/w-d-xo.html)
      Nearly any camera these days will be great for videos and photos. The best way to choose the camera that'll work best for you is to make a list of what kinds of specific content you want to create and how you'll be creating content. For example, travel vlogging where you're going caving and there'll be limited sunlight. Or something like, sitting in your art studio that has a ton of lights and sunlight already, and taking pictures of your art, so low light doesn't matter that much because you're recording in your studio 90% of the time.
      Anytime you're watching reviews and camera stuff, just pay attention to the stuff that might be relevant to your needs specifically. That'll help you better identify what'll work for you.

    Upgrading to the ZV-E1 would be nice for a full frame upgrade, but since I'm already invested in APS-C and don't want to have to buy all new more expensive lenses, I think I'll upgrade to the a6700 from a6600. The only downside is not having the dynamic stabilization. That's the real bummer. It's always something with Sony. They make almost perfect cameras. There's always that one little missing thing that would make it perfect lol.

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      lol I hear ya, but having to make that same decision myself, it was one simple trade in and problem solved lol
      I would LOVE to see more full frame compact lenses, and more brands are doing that now thankfully, but I'd love to see some Sony 11mm f1.8 type full frame lens that's that small lol But there's quite a few budget-friendly lenses out that which is nice.
      Yeah, the Dynamic Active not being in the camera is a bummer and definitely just enough for me to stay with the ZV-E1 lol

    • @mustang2005
      @mustang2005 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DianaGladney Yeah I hear you on more compact. That's another reason I'm not sure if I want to switch to full frame. I like APS-C being compact and light. It's perfect for my travel, action, run and gun vlogging style. 99% of the time I'm shooting handheld, rather than using a tripod. It's extra weight to carry around, and I don't have the patience to set it up constantly. Most places I go to don't allow tripods anyway. I make due with a small Joby if I really need one. It definitely depends on how one uses their camera for sure. I would love the extra bokeh and low light performance of full frame, but it's worth the tradeoff for smaller and lighter.

    can you just get a dji gimbals for handling dynamic stabilization? that would still be cheaper than the ZV-E1?

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah, but here’s what you don’t see in the videos to make that less than ideal and why nobody does that more than a few times.
      1. Your setup is bulky, no matter how small the gimbal. Meaning you opt to record less often because you don’t feel like carrying around a bunch of stuff.
      2. How many times you’re constantly tweaking the gimbal before you can start recording. Then, needing to recalibrate every time you swap lenses on the gimbal.
      3. Not being allowed in some areas because now your setup looks “pro” to any rentacop security guards in certain certain spaces and environments.
      4. Lugging around a gimbal all day.
      Us creators who are creating daily don’t want to carry around a 10-15lb bookbag daily just to have all our camera gear and stuff. If you check out any “what I wish I never bought” or “gear bag” videos, hardly nobody is using a gimbal for daily regular content, it’s for certain things and otherwise sits on the shelf.
      So, you technically can but literally everybody who had the same idea now has a gimbal on the shelf they barely use lol We have a gear bags even we’re heading out to do multiple videos or a shoot of some kind. But the daily carry is always a much simpler setup.
      Lol so…no lol 😂

I won’t be able to compare it side by side until I get the a6700 in the hands myself but I doubt it’s going to be that bad. @SwiftySanders If you’re stuck trying to decide you gotta log off TH-cam for a bit my guy lol Videos will have your head swimming and you’ll be sold off excitement lol Not how I recommend finding what’s best for YOU.
      Put aside all the videos you’ve seen, mine included, and pause. List out all the various ways you plan to create content that you can think of now thru the next 1-3 years even. What kind of stuff will you personally do? Based on that list what things are most important to you. I call this your list of non negotiates. What MUST your camera have first. Then, list off extra stuff that you’d like but aren’t a deal breaker.
      For example, a headphone and mic port are on my list of must haves but something like the new AI tech isn’t a deal breaker. I’d like to have it but it’s not a deal breaker for me personally.
      Once you list off your must haves vs wants, what are you willing to give up or pay the extra premium for a camera (any cameras) you’re considering. NOW when you watch TH-cam videos on the cameras you’re considering, take YOUR priorities into consideration first.
      This is one of the best ways to choose the right camera for you vs only trying to go off other folks experiences and use cases for how they’re using the cameras you’re looking at. Hope this helps!

      Interesting because the a6600 is the mesh between the a6400 and the a6500, plus you're getting better battery performance but the updated eye AF. But if the FW50 battery isn't an issue while creating, the a6600 is still the a6400, just with IBIS and eye AF in video. Other than that, it's the same photo camera. Seems that would be the best of both worlds based on what you said your go-to when creating is.
