JustinDL97 10 series steel, such as 1045, 1060, 1075, and 1095, are simple steels. They are just iron and carbon. The last two digits in the name refer to "points" of carbon, so 1075 is 99.25% iron, 0.75% carbon.

The distinction between machetes and swords is quite important actually... Here in Italy machetes are perfectily legal (you find them at any gardening shop), but sharpened swords require a licence be bought. So, something like this is somewhat of a bug in the legal system.

Sorry to come at you from nowhere, but if you like Skyrim you should check out Exanima. Be warned that it is very different from what you are used to in terms of controls, and the game itself isn't easy, however, when you get that hit in just right it just feels so damn satisfying. It is still in EA, and if you look at the games update log it may at first look like it has stopped development. But that's at the surface, the devs (Bare Mettle) are currently working on some of the most advanced AI i have ever heard of being implemented into a game. Sorry for the huge wall of text, hope I'm not too annoying with this.

Ive had my Executioner for a year now and I'm loving it. Bought one for my dad too. Setup a mannequin with various melons strapped to it and said GO FOR IT! He really enjoyed going ballistic on that thing ^_^
this somehow reminds me a bit of a greek kopis at least a bit (maybe like a steampunk version or something) and somehow i can totally imagine that thing being used by ork in lord of the rings or something like this
The ad for the game at the beginning of the video was actually really interesting. I loved Chromehounds on the Xbox 360 (a multiplayer combat robot game where you have different classes of mechs that you can build from scratch from hundreds of parts) and always wanted a newer version of one and that game looks exactly like it. Pretty cool

I took mine camping over this last weekend. Cut down 3 dead trees and chopped them into fire pit friendly sizes. The center part of the handle does give a nice blister.
Always when you are swirling it over your head one-handedly, it looks quite dangerously. This kind of technique I usually train by using light wooden sticks only and occasionally it actually has happened to me that I hit myself,... slightly though. Better to wear protection gear when swirling that kind of blade around. ;-) Losing an ear or the top of your skull wouldn't be worth it, even if the video would go viral showing your self-inflicted harm. ;-))
Matthias Guenther this is why it is important to train thoroughly. Never attempt a maneuver you have not practiced with a live blade. I practiced with a wooden sword amd blunt blades for several years, but now I can do that manuever easily with a sharp sword. Its built into motor skills after lots of practice
Luisiano Jones, makes a lot of sense to me. But what in case you have bought a new sword with a rather unorthodoxly formed blade? Would you go "raw" with it from the very beginning?
Matthias Guenther , if you've trained with one sword, that manuever is pretty much universal. With practice, especially with a variety of blades, you'll be able to recognize the weight and know how much force to swing with. Regardless of the weapon, the training results in the automatic mover of your head and body. Its basic once its automatic

Is there was like some indestructible metal that couldn't be chipped or cracked,bluntened (eg adamantium,mithril,orichalum) would you still want the blade to be flexible or would you want it to be just a solid mass
The flexibility of the blade is to prevent the metal from cracking, so if the material is so good that it won't crack by default then I'd imagine it being fully hard then I'd imagine it would probably just cut better and not get stuck after cutting into something hard.
Distrayer you might still want to have some flexibility though, because if you thrust with a completely stiff but indestructible blade, all the force goes into two points: the point of impact, and your wrist. If you happen to hit something that the blade can't go straight through, you will feel it in your hand, wrist, forearm, elbow etc.
Wouldn't you feel that with a normal blade as well? Your answer actually does bring up something I didn't think about but now I'm wondering if the difference would be that much.

I did a double take when I saw this: It looks a lot like a blade I designed about 15 years ago. I had been trying for a machete that was almost a falchion. The main difference is that the point is a couple of inches longer.

I bought this a couple of years ago, when zombiegoboom first put this out, I bought the paracord wrapped tang, which was cheaper, but now what I paid for the "paratang" is now the price for the micarta handle, which kinda sucks that happened, but overall I love it so much. I wrapped a bunch of grip tape all around the paracord to give better grip and to make the handle a bit thicker.

BTW, Skall. I wonder what do you think about the game Ancestors Legacy. It's not out yet but the trailer and gameplay available makes me think that we will finally get reasonably realistic game set in Viking Era.

I took mine camping over this last weekend. Cut down 3 dead trees and chopped them into fire pit friendly sizes. The center part of the handle does give a nice blister.
I never thought I'd see Skall do a game promo like that, but I'm glad to sees he added in a bit of his own humor.
1075 is actually a really good choice for a machete

Always when you are swirling it over your head one-handedly, it looks quite dangerously. This kind of technique I usually train by using light wooden sticks only and occasionally it actually has happened to me that I hit myself,... slightly though. Better to wear protection gear when swirling that kind of blade around. ;-) Losing an ear or the top of your skull wouldn't be worth it, even if the video would go viral showing your self-inflicted harm. ;-))
Matthias Guenther this is why it is important to train thoroughly. Never attempt a maneuver you have not practiced with a live blade. I practiced with a wooden sword amd blunt blades for several years, but now I can do that manuever easily with a sharp sword. Its built into motor skills after lots of practice

Luisiano Jones, makes a lot of sense to me. But what in case you have bought a new sword with a rather unorthodoxly formed blade? Would you go "raw" with it from the very beginning?
Matthias Guenther , if you've trained with one sword, that manuever is pretty much universal. With practice, especially with a variety of blades, you'll be able to recognize the weight and know how much force to swing with. Regardless of the weapon, the training results in the automatic mover of your head and body. Its basic once its automatic

Is there was like some indestructible metal that couldn't be chipped or cracked,bluntened (eg adamantium,mithril,orichalum) would you still want the blade to be flexible or would you want it to be just a solid mass
The flexibility of the blade is to prevent the metal from cracking, so if the material is so good that it won't crack by default then I'd imagine it being fully hard then I'd imagine it would probably just cut better and not get stuck after cutting into something hard.
Distrayer you might still want to have some flexibility though, because if you thrust with a completely stiff but indestructible blade, all the force goes into two points: the point of impact, and your wrist. If you happen to hit something that the blade can't go straight through, you will feel it in your hand, wrist, forearm, elbow etc.
and if you would hit something as indestructable as the metal of your blade with enough force to break someones arm, you would break your own arm
Wouldn't you feel that with a normal blade as well? Your answer actually does bring up something I didn't think about but now I'm wondering if the difference would be that much.
Because of Newton’s third law of motion you absolutely need flex in the blade otherwise you would seriously hamper or damage yourself.
Honestly I don't get why TH-cam demonetizes his content I know he says it's entrainment but I have learned allot about the medieval time period from this channel I woul think TH-cam would consider it as being for the purpose of education.

I did a double take when I saw this: It looks a lot like a blade I designed about 15 years ago. I had been trying for a machete that was almost a falchion. The main difference is that the point is a couple of inches longer.
Hey Skallgrim, have you ever seen the movie The 13th Warrior, this movie was one of my first Medieval related movies, it was also one of the first Viking movies that I've ever seen. It's a very cool movie if you haven't seen it, see it for yourself if you want. It's also cool when it comes to the Viking one on one dual in which was cool to watch.

I bought this a couple of years ago, when zombiegoboom first put this out, I bought the paracord wrapped tang, which was cheaper, but now what I paid for the "paratang" is now the price for the micarta handle, which kinda sucks that happened, but overall I love it so much. I wrapped a bunch of grip tape all around the paracord to give better grip and to make the handle a bit thicker.
