They should put a "corner of mild interest" in car parking at shows like that, may not be officially in the show, but some may find them interesting to see put together... :D

From the symptoms I'd guess (apologies as I'm sure you've considered this already) I'd suggest there is a suspect vacuum advance hose from the distributor or the distributor advance is sticking. Dig out an old Gunsons xenon timing light (remember those) to check if they still make them. It could even be an HT lead breaking down. I had a similar experience of loss of oomph accelerating through the revs on my old Mini in the 80's. HT lead change sorted that out. Anyway it's great to see Foxanne having a little hoon on those wonderful Welsh roads many of which I enjoyed when I could still ride a motorbike back in the day.

These engines as you may know were built by reliant themselves capable 78 mph I’ve owned several reliants and a good motor would cruise comfortably at motorway speeds . foxAnne’s engine sounds tired and compared to changing the engine on chemmy this would be super easy.

More of a vehicle designed to potter about in, say, with a 1970s worker and his gear, or a pensioners trip down to the allotment to dig up some spuds. I don't think these little Reliants were really designed with the long haul in mind, but what they did they did well enough. It's always nice to see Foxanne being used. His was a late V6 which had been breathed upon slightly by Peugeot in preparation for the 605.
Sadly he parked it up after a garage in Carmarthen botched the Unleaded conversion and it never felt the same again. It sat on the driveway for years with his mothers' 300k plus 305 Diesel estate before he scrapped the two of them. 😪

That bad idle bring my mind what i had on my first car, Golf MK2 with Pierburg carburetor with auto-choke, that was a nightmare to drive... 😄
Sometimes you had to drive it all the time full throttle and adjust speed with gears and press all three pedals when downshifting or slow it by handbrake.
Then i found some old Japanese carburetor with hand-choke, swapped that on the car and what a night and day difference it was.

Journeys are never more exciting than when there is doubt about completing them. It was inspiring to see 2 Hubnuts "reliant" on a troubled Fox to get them home. Did you see what I did there? Probably best to have a few basic tools in a tool roll on board, most cars have a couple of common spanner size that you could just about rebuild them with.

The driving technique you had to adopt to drive an ailing Foxanne was the same as I had to use with my 1987 Isuzu Trooper II. It had a carbureted 2.3L gasoline I4 that made all of 96bhp when it was at the top of its form in a vehicle the size and shape of a Land Rover 110. Basically, there was only one way to drive it: right pedal to the floor at all times and use the gearshift to vary road speed.

"Foxanne doesn't quite have the ride comfort [of a Citroen]"
I noticed that. I don't think Foxanne was enjoying it much either - her insides looked quite green! 😂😂
"[The bumps / cattle stops] are better if you take them quicker". I tried telling my mother that once when hurtling along a similar country road on the Coromandel ranges in an Alfa Sprint. My mother's reply was not as refined as Miss Hubnut's as the Alfa crashed over them similarly to Foxanne!
That old tractor seemed to be going along at a reasonable clip too. I was driving down through Taihape recently and following two great big huge green ones that were doing 60 km/h along State Highway 1! I thought to myself "Only in NZ would you find tractors on THE main route up and down the country!" Do you recall how many times you came across tractors on a main thoroughfare when touring around our roads three years ago? I bet there were a few!
Always love an outing in Foxanne - the whines from her gearbox and the sound of that carburettor growling away are just magical. Adding Miss Hubnut into the mix just makes for additional entertainment with her sense of humour and quick wit. Love seeing you being able to get out and about and enjoy the sunshine....and that beautiful scenery! All the best.

Great Fun! Glad you made it home! - The issue you had here reminds me very much of when I had this same issue with my Reliant Regal 21E 700cc back in the 1980's. In my case the plastic heel on the points had worn down, leaving a very small gap in the points and throwing the timing out too! The reason for this in my case, I discovered, was the felt oil pad under the rotor arm was missing, so the cam on the distributor and heel on the points had no lubrication, causing the heel to be worn. According to the haynes manual, the felt pad had to be topped up with oil every x-amount of miles. After I fitted a new felt pad and oiled it regularly, it never went wrong again. Just a thought...... P.S. on the Regal the felt pad sat in the recess on the top of the spindle of the distributor. So as far as I recall was one of the parts of the distributor and not the rotor arm.

Oh that reads badly. Not suggesting you're simple, just that it doesn't have all the complexity of your other engine swap.

#NotMyE36 at the start of the video! They're very rare nowadays in decent standard condition like this one. Also, the Fox's speedometer dial looks very smart. The Fox's interior in general is looking very tidy in general.

Foxanne's performance is like an old work mate's joke about a Rolls Royce he owned he claimed it was a Rolls Royce Canhardly, it Rolls down the hills and Can hardly get up the hills.
Yes 25 years of that joke told to every new person in the workshop did wear a bit thin!

I always think the steering wheel in Foxanne does not look quite right with having the spoke right at the top of the steering wheel, but it is.

Yeeoow! That cyclist (11:30) saw you halfway into his oncoming lane before you got by him. I suspect you owe him a clean pair of bike shorts.

The number of people overtaking like this on purpose is incredibly high. Makes you see your life in front of your eyes. All to save a few mere seconds.

Genuinely, I got caught out by gravity. I was expecting the cyclist to be well away before I needed to swing out. I think the camera makes it look worse than the reality but I'm happy to concede I could have done that better.

You checked the A&R pipe was attached but is it leaking? Also has the distributor clamp worked loose and it's moved slightly. Poor Foxanne, had the brown stuff thrashed out of her. She's designed to pootle around at 30 - 40 as a local delivery vehicle.
