This ship was not really suited for her original route in Germany. She was nicknamed 'montezuma's revenge' at the time. Luckily, she went on to find a trade that works for her and have a successful career... I think she is a charming little ship and i hope she will go on for a few more years.

Thanks for your comment, she probably was too small to carry many trucks as would be required on the German routes however her size does suit her current route even if she is a little old compared to most ferries serving Mallorca.

@@msmarinediesel1843 I do not think it was her size. Borkum is a tiny island and she would match the capacity needed in the 1970ies and 80ies. I believe she was just 'too different' as a Japanese design with a fully Japanese makers list, including engines. Probably the German crew had trouble keeping her in good condition and nobody was familiar with her systems... As a single ship of a dedicated operator, she worked well. But in the 70ies, she was just too much if an oddball in the 'Borkum' fleet.
I always liked her look though: a proper ship, only in pocket size!

She is still probably a bit of an oddball in Mallorca compared to other ferries around there although she has been on that route so long the crew are probably used of dealing with her. I was not aware she was Japanese built until after I traveled on her and was a bit surprised to discover that. I had just assumed she was probably built somewhere in Europe back the day.

@@msmarinediesel1843 At the time, I was told, some smaller Japanese yards tried to break into the European ferry market with a lot of effort. From what I heard, the Borkum ferry company (AG Ems) got the original contract for the ship at a VERY attractive price. Probably, they just could not say no to such a sweet deal. Looks like you had a nice ride on the ship. Thanks for the video.

A bit of a coincidence - the video I watched before this, which was about RVs, included Port Angeles to Victoria!
