W204 2008 Mercedes C200 Kompressor | Timing Chain and Camshaft Sprocket replacement | 2024 | How To

These Mercedes-Benz C200 Kompressor W204 are now around 15 year old cars and most of them are having issues with their timing chains after crossing the 200,000 km mark. The timing chain stretches over time and becomes a bit loose and damages the teeth on camshaft sprockets due to slippage. Slippage also means that the timing of the engine is out of sync and this can lead to severe damage to the engine.

Good job..but its good to apply some engine oil on the new timing change before fixing all the components..the early star will be much better and smooth..tq

So the crank will turn freely with tinimg tool on you don't need to relax the cam's

there's no need to change the crankshaft gear too? doesn't it get damaged by the loose chain?

That gear is very strong and hard, it doesn't get damadged that easily.

@@braybrig hey. thank you very much. i was trembling in fear of having to replace the crankshaft sprocket. my car works perfectly except for the noise at sold startups, so i'm guessing it's still synchronized. I will replace the other parts next week.

​@@braybrigis this your own car?. Oil change is every 5000 or 8000km?. Semi synthetic or fully synthetic. While the sprocket looks worn it does not have broken teeth like those others shown in the U tube. ♥️👍👍👍

There was one tensioner which can only be accessed by removing that rubber gromet on the bottom left side of the timing chain cover. That gromet needs to be repalced everytime you remove it.

​@@braybrigHello, if you did have a chance of doing this again for another M271 engine like this could you press down the old timing chain tensioner onto a weighting machine to see if it needs 30 or 20 or 15lb of down force to move it's plunger by 1.5 or 2 inch. Then do the same test with the new tensioner. I think the old tensioner if lost only 25% of its tension is still in specification but not if it lost 50% of its tension even if it does not rattle the chain. My inlet cam adjustor had broken 21 of its 44 teeth. At 4 to 5 teeth broken on each of the separate locations. But still not rattling. Year 2004 in casted on the inlet cam adjustor. 215,000km on cluster meter. 😮😮😮

What about the sprocket further down that you're spinning the old chain on to bring the new one up? Why not do the whole lot instead of half a job, the left and right guides as well as the top one. Only doing the chain is only half a job 🤷 good job this isnt my car.

Bellissimo sto video, mi piacerebbe fare questo lavoro ma ho paura qualcosa vada storto, l ultima volta che ci ho messo mano ho solo cambiato le guarnizioni delle punterie. Ma come si fa a togliere ad esempio la pompa del servosterzo (va smonstato anche il tubo o semplicemente spostato per avere manovra? Nel caso lo avessi smontato Il liquido va rimesso dopo?) e poi non ho mai lavorato sulle catene 😅
