I just watched this a couple weeks ago and I actually liked it. I just hope that one day Minky momo/Gigi will get some more recognition and eventually get a fully english redub of the whole series restored and uncut. And you know what would make it even better? Have Sandy Fox voice her.
This was supposedly available on Amazon Instant Video. If the Wiki article about Minky Momo is accurate, it WAS re-released in 2015. It's an English adaptation of an OVA based on the Minky Momo series. Harmony Gold also dubbed an earlier 52-episode TV series BUT it was never shown in the US. It played overseas in English-speaking territories. HG doesn't have the license to this anymore... I'm sure it lapsed many years ago and another company would have to pick it up from whoever owns Minky Momo in Japan. That would depend if anyone felt they could sell in on physical media now.
The series was available on Amazon for purchase at one point, as far as I have been able to find, this particular English dub is scarce. I've been trying to track it down for years now, and I managed to get an audio track to sync here, which works well enough if you just want to see it. Still wish it was more readily available.

It's very hard NOT to see Minky Momo as a Creamy Mami derivative although Momo focuses more on magic and the supernatural. Creamy Mami is more slice of life. Creamy Mami and at least the first movie sequel are on TubiTV right now for free. @45:24 Weird, weird little movie. You have a guy talking like Little Caesar (Edward G. Robinson) and a riff on Major Kong from Dr. Strangelove! I will say this -- it's a beautifully drawn and colored film. The detail and character animation is better than a lot of anime made today. It's amazing to think this is from 1985, 1987 but the 1980s was a golden age for anime. A lot of great TV series and movies created in that decade.
TH-cam took down Kenny Lauderdale's clip of this, but with this upload I can still get my fix of "Ah ricky ba ticky bruhaha! bing tickle ting rickle oolala! Wag a toosie flim flam, catch 'em in a tin can! Mama Louie, papa shooie zoo me yaaaa!"
I saw that videotape when I was 19. I recognizer that anime is The Magical World of Gigi since I was a child. I grew up watching Minky Momo in the Italian dubbed version back in the early-90s.
Oh my god thanks to tumblr I found the name of this I watched this movie on vhs when I was a little girl and I tried looking all over for it!!! I’m so happy I’ve found it again and can relive my childhood memories 💕💕💕💕💕💕😊✨

I remeber this movie from when I went to visit my grandparents. They had it on VHS, my mum bought this on VHS when she was a teenager and I watched it every time I visited her childhood home in the late 2000's. In a way this kind of started my love of anime!!!

Lol the boy conductor is in a dress. The magician is adorable as a kid, I love his hair. They let in Adults turned in to kids, those aren't real kids yet they say Gigi is nit a real kid..lol that guy on the island dress Gigi up as pretty much Disney's Cinderella, just different colours. Oh so he's Peter Pan essentially, And he saw Wendy, John and Micheal. Lol "Oh my goodness grape juice". Love the reach for the stars song near the end when its the slow bit
This is my first exposure to the series, does it always feel this much like a fever dream, not that I mind some of the more Fantastical elements but the plot appears to be moving very very fast and I'm having a hard time keeping track of what's going on... Much less figuring out why it's going on dot-dot-dot although maybe I just haven't given it enough time given I'm only like 20 minutes in
There is a lot of dialogue that is either poorly-translated (because a proper translation wouldn't fit in that spot), or completely swapped out (because Western audiences wouldn't understand it). Additionally, it probably references some events in the TV show (I've only seen the first four episodes, so I can't say for sure). But yes, the plot does move quickly.
The kid version is undoubtedly Rebecca Forstadt, aka Reba West, aka Reva West. As Forstadt is known for her distinctive, child-like voice, the older version is almost certainly someone else. Various websites like CrystalAcids have that version pinned to Lisa Paulette - who is supposedly the same person as the late Lisa Michelson, who I understand is a singer in her own right. This lends credence to Lisa also singing in character for "Reach For Your Dreams."
@@kyubihanyou Are you sure? I'm pretty sure it's just one person. Especially because Child Gigi DOESN'T sound like a real child. She sounds like an adult woman just putting on a slightly higher pitched voice than her normal voice. Adult Gigi and Child Gigi sound very much like the same voice actress to me, only putting on a higher pitched voice or a deeper voice. The soft airy voice and the speech rythm is exactly the same, only varying in pitch and voice register. The two actresses would have to be VERY good for their voices to match up THIS well.
If there is a remake of Minky Momo, then I think they will make it more like Madoka Magica and Magical Girl Site which are both dark and depressing deconstructions of magical girl anime.
Jac2Mac Personally, I don't think that would be necessary. Minky Momo is completely fine as a (mostly) light hearted magical girl anime. And if it got a reboot, then the only thing I would want from it is upgraded animation and maybe a bit more variety in Minky's powers.
@@ass302 Because no one likes fun and happy magical girl anime anymore and shows like Creamy Mami NEED to be made into a dark and miserable show and Creamy Mami in particular would focus on that ultra-angry blue haired girl Nijimi from Magical Girl Site instead of Creamy Mami and a remake of Mary Bell could focus on Homucifer from Madoka Magica REbellion.
This is so much better than today's magical girl animes. I just discovered it today and I am loving it.
