- In May 2016, four baby Barn Owls were admitted to the Wildlife Center of Virginia after their nest (in a silo) was destroyed. These owls will be raised until they are old enough for release.

If I'm not mistaken, Barn owls move their heads or even whole body from side to side because their eardrums are located at different heights, they do so to hear better. How does that helps? I have no idea...

The Barn Owl on the left is petrified, he doesn’t know what to do other than turn from the threat in the hope nothing bad will happen, he is also face his comrades for comfort. he is clearly one of the youngest and lowest ranking, you are mistaking fear for nonchalance. I doubt if you were stuck in the back of a cat box with nowhere to go and a tiger trying to get in, that you wouldn’t be bothered about it. No I think you would be shitting your pants.

I heard a creepy sound in the trees last night and tonight. Im pretty sure it’s from a baby barn owl now.

In general, owls move their heads since their eyes are fixed in their sockets -- they can't move their eyes independently like we can!
It also maximizes their depth perception.

@@synix37 Like my grandpa used to say. You can't miss what you never had. They were never able to move their eyes so they know no different. So no, it's not hard for them, it comes naturally. It's like saying oh it must be hard to live because your deaf or blind. Those who are that way from birth just live differently and they have never known otherwise. They have no sight or hearing to miss.
