Years ago (1989?) I watched a video of Eddie Fiola in the Wizard Publication parking lot riding a half pipe on a bigger than 20" wheel bike and he was just flyin!! I've been searching this youtube ever since looking for it! I don't fit on a 20" wheel bike anymore and dream of getting air on a 24-26" tire bike. Just posting cause I'm searching...
I m guessing you are remembering him when he rode 1 3/8” wheel, which are a little taller than a standard wheel, but can LOOK significantly taller since they are so skinny.
In the crowd of kids. Not one Tattoo or blue hair. Internet is to blame. There's an old saying, "A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing. But isn't one half as bad as a Lot of ignorance."
That is the way it was marketed and sold and they way most riders first saw it in the professional level, even when most riders back then were simply riding around their homes and doing what they could. This worked out for a few years then died out abruptly and the sport basically rose from its own ashes on the strength of die hards that would not quit while the level was increasing in quantum leaps. That era to me was the most appealing and happened to be the time I rode the most. To get an idea of how big the previous scene was, check the rage on the collecting scene, there is probably more people there and more stuff being sold and traded than in actual modern riding. Back when this video was made bmx was one of the few realistic entertainment options kids had.
