    I can't wait to get my hands on this book. I am glad to see that this worked with modern pomade. I am not sure if I am ready to commit to making my own mutton lard pomade.
    It was nice to see a video tutorial for the hairstyle. I own American Duchess's other book and while it is a fascinating read and there are lots of pictures, I am the type of person who really benefits from a video tutorial. Just to warn you, The American Duchess's Guide to 18th Century Dressmaking does not include dress patterns. They discuss how the dresses were assembled and give sewing patterns and assembly instructions for various accessories (caps, aprons, hats, etc), but they expect you to either purchase or create your own sewing patterns for the dresses. One thing that I thought was really cool, though, was that they had a section explaining all of the typical fit issues you might run into and how to fix them.

    • @Rachel-lz6fx
      @Rachel-lz6fx 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It does include patterns in the book, you just have to scale them up yourself. That’s why they’re on a squared background, each square represents one inch. I know because I’ve used them. You don’t need to buy a commercial pattern to use this book!

    • @kirstenpaff8946

      @@Rachel-lz6fx I must have not remembered that correctly. Unfortunately, my copy of this book is currently an ocean away in a storage box in my mom's basement. Thanks for correcting my mistake.

    Beautiful! One tip to limit frizz is teasing the side that goes inside of the buckle rather than the side that faces out. It makes it much easier to smooth out and blend the buckles together.

I've always liked history and have read a lot about different people throughout history and I think that's part of it; just seeing those hairstyles coming to life. Mad Kandy I assume they did because very often you see in paintings people having grey hair.... this could be explanation why

      Definitely! It was a fashionable look for the time, the combination of pomade and powder helped hold the elaborate styles and then they'd use more powder to brush vigorously and take all the dirt out. It's how they cleaned their hair :)
