In the Syro-Malabar tradition, we celebrate the "Eliya-Sliva-Muse" season, which translates to Elijah, Cross, and Moses. This season highlights the Transfiguration as the fulfilment of the Old Testament in the New Testament. Moses represents the Law of the Old Testament, and Elijah symbolizes the Prophets. During the Transfiguration, God's voice from Heaven commands us to "Listen to Him," emphasizing that the Law and the Prophets find their ultimate fulfilment in Jesus, the living New Covenant.
The Cross during this season invites the faithful to embrace their own suffering, following the example of Jesus, who glorified God through His complete surrender and obedience to the Father. Additionally, we are called to faith through the symbolism of the Bronze Serpent. Just as Moses lifted up the bronze serpent in the wilderness, the Son of Man was lifted up on the cross and died for our salvation.
The overarching theme of this season in our tradition is the victory of the cross over evil, death, and suffering. It also reflects the fulfilment of the Old Testament Laws and Prophets and prepares us for the Second Coming of Christ.
