But many people started following chess in COVID, especially chess base India, samay Raina streams. Then pragg beating magnus, Arjun and nihal also best magnus in blitz. Beating magnus itself seemed like an achievement. Pragg was so close winning the world cup, gukesh won the candidates, now chess Olympiad, gcl was an interesting tournament too.chess has picked up in the last ,5-6 years in India. People started hearing names like Arjun erigaisi, nihal sarin, vidit, gukesh praggnanandhaa . Samay and Sagar Shah and also vishy and his waca,( west bridge Anand chess academy) , vellamal vidyalaya( school of both pragg and gukesh which supports sports culture a lot), are the main reasons of chess getting it's due recognition now.
Govt.should encourage chess in schools.

Even Russian [former USSR } won in both the men and women category. Our PM is talking about India winning these medals after 97 years. Previously we won bronze in 2022 Olympiad happened in Chennai Tamil Nadu.

@@Indoway thats my comment lol. What about pre covid. Chess players in general have to cover all their cost by themselves, only few get sponsors. Nobody gave a shit about chess before covid in india. Vishy never got the same level of respect and hype as Sachin even after winning the championship 5 times.
