Yes the houses are heavier but they remind me of Ikea.

I'm remember as a kid my parents buying a brand new home in America, in the State of California. In less than 5 years of owning the home it was falling apart. They spent more money remodeling the home than they initially payed for the house. Now as an adult I find that building materials and fixtures sold are pure overpriced garbage. Sink faucets made of plastic now instead of metal. They break and leak. Cabinets made of cheap particle board with flimsy hinges and slides. Windows with plastic frames. Thin plastic blinds held together with thin strings. I've been wanting to start a company that makes solid dependable products for homes that will last for generations. Looks like all I need to do is import German products.

Very much a dream home. Beautifully designed. Seems that everything made in Germany is quite desirable.

Almost everybody in a German family owns a gadget/laptop and watching shows they want. Hence, no need for a huge TV.

For some people TV isn't important. And when big TV are off they're ugly big black rectangles.

The main quality case of this solid build houses is a proper insulation to save heating costs. Unfortunately this Houses are very expensive and with average income it is risky if you can pay it until retirement.

So This is the typical German House interior? I think if it were my house I would be in favour of carpeting,at least in the lounge and bedrooms.
It seems to me that the Germans love pastel shades of colours for the exterior.
Where in Germany is this? Frankfurt? Dusseldorf? Koln? or a small village?

It's true. I grew up my early life in Austria and our apartment was brand new and even for the 80's was high tech and super quality. We moved to Canada and into a old apartment building that had yellow carpet and was just overall very low quality. Sometimes I think we should of stayed back home but it is what it is.

the bathroom is intense. I love the window above the toilet. thanks to your friend for letting you film. my home is completely the opposite-very busy without much space on the walls, etc. but, it definitely has an appeal, at least a curiosity from this side of it's own beauty. it's funny to see that even in Germany, everyone has a junk drawer.😉. thanks again!

It is permitted to build with wood in Germany, fireinsurance is very high, but it's becoming very popular. Also Ballon Framing, has a bad reputation in Germany. There was a saying at my university, that a german architect or engeneer will never be found on the second floor in a house whitch was build that way. So maybe your host family was refering to the typ of wood construction.

Steven Hagen hate to tell you but your last name “Hagen“ is German. Even cities here are named Hagen, so your ancestors properly were germans. By the way you can’t compare old and new houses.
