Hai, you have made a wonderful chocolate cake not blackforest cake. Because blackforest cake should taste tht chocolate flavor along with that kirsch ( cherry brandy ) so if you didn't have this with you u should have boiled your cherries in that sugar syrup and try to elevate the flavor and also put soaked cherry in between layers ( it doesn't change the taste ) and also use tht cherry syrup in ur cream usually as I said they use cherry brandy called kirsch.. So next time I hope u make up for this..
