    Got one a couple of months ago from Mitzone for about $160 and only negative comment was about the oil cap. Haven’t installed it yet but now I’m impressed! Thanks for the video

    i have an 04 325i with an m56 from the factory. when i opened it up last year to do a valve cover gasket change i was unaware of the differences between or even existence of the m56 vs the m54. so thinking i’m working on a standard e46 and being met with some pretty different parts once i started working prompted the obvious panic before frenzied research to see where i went wrong. unfortunately a lot of the research i was able to do during my frenzy brought up information that was both vague and conflicting, only adding to the confusion, so i felt i had to rely on myself. anyways after some very meticulous inspection and careful disassembly as well as some pieces of valuable information scrapped from a plethora of different 50s kid videos i finally got the job done. point is i had a long good hard look at that stock m56 valve cover and even took it apart almost entirely trying to figure out what is what. the amazon reviewers who commented on the lack of baffling were on to something i’m almost certain. it appeared to me that in the stock m56 engine the CCV was moved from external under the intake manifold to become a completely enclosed system within the valve cover. the centrifuge (i think it’s called) from the traditional ccv was moved to right underneath where that cap on your intake manifold sits. underneath that cap should be the components of the m56 ccv centrifuge, as well as for lack of a better term some crude suppressor like baffling going in each direction covered by two metal plates, each meeting around the base of the aforementioned cap. on a traditional m56 valve cover with functioning ccv you wouldn’t be able to see the underside of that cap due to the components of the functioning ccv. on a normal m54 to m56 manifold swap keeping the stock m54 ccv can be done but is unnecessary and somewhat repetitive because the m56 manifold ccv takes care of it first, more effectively too since it always reaches operating temp with each cycle. with this manifold it does not appear to have any functional form of ccv centrifuge within the manifold itself so if someone were to delete their stock m54 ccv as is traditionally acceptable they would actually be putting themselves in a situation where they have no functional ccv. a driver experiencing the symptoms of this without realizing they don’t have a ccv would have a hell of a time running it down. $$$

    Man I really can't believe it either, I have a cylinder 6 throwing a code and I just did a valve gasket/coil/spark plug change and I noticed the cover had a crack/small piece in the gasket lining towards the inside of the gasket. Maybe oil in the rail or something but, I have been doing the same thing reviewing and Amazon did not pop up for me, please do a review ASAP man for sure. I'm hearing people say the CCV/PCV can't breathe properly and causes misfires. I'm in CNY so we don't get long periods of extreme hot weather but anything is possible, great video for sure though man and great find!

    I just bought the same cover from 1A Auto, perfect fit and finish, but I am having some vacuum leakage around the seals, I might go back and put a small RTV seal around everything to tighten it up.

    • @TenzaMotorsports
      @TenzaMotorsports  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Vacuum leaks? Are you leaking oil as well?

    • @dhaze328
      @dhaze328 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nope, the gaskets were pre-installed and I probably shouldn't have installed the VC without removing them and wiping them off to ensure a perfect seal.

    I have a 2001 330ci I order this valve cover as well but I’m not sure if my oem coils fit. It have the two bolts but it seems to me that the coils don’t seem to fit I might be mistaken but I’m not sure if I need to get new coils.

    Wow, this is a very interesting alternative to the m56 valve cover swap. I did the m56 swap, but if this had been available I might have gone this route instead.

    Are you telling me that this valve cover pretty much has its own CCV system? Like I could put a little filter on the ccv neck and run it like that reliably?

  • @mikelbring
    @mikelbring ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I have the same valve cover. I hope you took the baffle off and cleaned it. Mine had very small shavings from the machining. Also their gasket failed for me after like 1k miles. Was leaking into the spark plug holes. Some people covers had cracks but mine seemed fine.

    • @TenzaMotorsports
      @TenzaMotorsports  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had removed mine to inspect it. Everything looked good. I reused my “old” gasket and put the one it came with to the side for now. But that’s good information to know

      It’s been amazing! Another think I’ve noticed is that it lets heat out much faster. Almost like a heat sync. I’d do it again In a heartbeat! Great mod for every single e46

      Check to make sure. I’m pretty sure you’ll have the newer valve cover style. It’s easy to check. If your coil packs have two bolts it’s the older one like mine. If your coil packs are friction fit, it’s the newer style!

    • @TenzaMotorsports
      @TenzaMotorsports  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s not as complicated as the older valve covers. There’s a very small port, where it pulls oil vapors through and that’s it!

      I ordered a complete setup with the coils from the US via eBay (in the US) and had it sent to me in the UK. It was very easy as eBay calculated all the shipping and duty costs and paid for it all via eBay. It was not cheap but I think it was absolutely worth it. Would I use this valve cover if I knew about it more than a year ago? Mmmm...probably not. Yes, it would have been much cheaper but I think getting rid of all the cyclone garbage under the intake manifold is well worth it. I use this engine in a big old Land Rover Defender in the Sahara so definitely a bonus!
