Sounds exactly like it is shown in the video as it pertains to the ATAK system and as an added bonus, it crackles and pops a lot too, even without a downpipe or cold air intake. Very pleased, definitely consider this over the 3 Grand systems like Akra, meister etc if you dont mind not having the electronic controlled exhaust. Also there is 0 droning around town and a very minimal drone even above 75 mph on the highway, which usually dissipates.
Review of the Borla ATAK for n55/F3x I’m running this currently without an aftermarket downpipe. I wanted to wait until the exhaust was fully burned in before doing a review. Initial opinion: Super airy and not loud when first put on brand new. While new it sounds hollow. Once you get some miles put on it really matures into something awesome. Since last Sunday until now I’ve put about a full tank of gas into it. It “woke up” I believe around Friday is when it was completely broken in as now I can hear burbles while driving whereas they were only audible at decelerations. From the inside with windows up you don’t really hear much. It’s actually drowned out by the engine most of the time. Our car sound dampening is to blame here. However, you can hear the burbles. It sounds like there’s a volcano stewing behind you at deceleration. Some upshifts come with a burble too. When you roll the windows down or pop up the sun roof it’s the best thing ever. I haven’t used my cars sound system since I’ve had it installed. People outside love it too. I’ve seen drivers roll down there window as I’m approaching or passing to catch a sound bite. It totally changes the car into something else. I personally can’t keep this stupid smile off my face while driving. The exhaust gives the car this deep tone no matter what throttle amount you’re giving and when the engine is revving down to low load, at like a red light or a stop sign, if you have a building next to you or a wall you can hear it power down. It’s hard to describe, Its like what you would hear from a turbine engine powering down. it’s just a sound of power. There’s absolutely no drone no matter what gear/speed/RPM you’re going. It burbles ALOT. i don’t get the gun shot sounds, it’s almost like an angry bubble full of bass noise. The burbles are maybe 3/4th of a second long and they are very audible. it burbles every chance it gets in sport mode. Step on the gas for a second and as soon as you let off you’re getting a burble. It also burbles on acceleration too. It also has really strange burbles in comfort mode. I once had a several second long burble (guessing the car was finishing whatever fuel was left), it sounded like the car was simmering and making thunder out the back it sounded incredible. Funny story. I was driving by this couple today who were walking across the parking lot. The woman made a comment about my car and the guy told her “Shhh! It’s talking!” I could see him cusp his ear to get a better hear at the burbles lol. My biggest concern: it def throws the car off balance. Lower gears are much longer now and it shifts a bit wonky. The car really wants you to lay down the hammer now. You can certainly feel a performance improvement over the stock exhaust but the car really beckons you to push it harder than it did before. I am planning on getting a tune to calibrate shift points. Overall this was an incredible buy for $1300. Money well spent. Really turns the car into something else. It doesn’t sound raspy or cheap and it’s loud but in a very good way because it sounds totally refined while doing so.

But unfortunately on my way home I decided to put my foot down while under a bridge and blew the stock charge pipe... went ahead and bought a chargepipe from bms and a couple other goodies. jb4,intercooler,catless dp. but shes going to be out for about week until i get those parts in. sad times.

As for my personal review of the exhaust, I've had the x35i platform since it went turbocharged in the e92 and I've spent tens and tens of thousands of dollars on modifications over the years and this single mod (even though it was free) was by far the most game changing aspect of my car. Everywhere I went and everywhere I took the car I received countless compliments. I never did anything beyond the exhaust for my car before i lost it because I never felt I needed to. I have other cars that are much faster and at the time this was my daily. For daily driving purposes I don't think you could go wrong with the atak, I never got a chance to see or hear the stype beyond what's shown in this video, so I can't speak to the differences between the two. I couldn't give this exhaust enough praise for how much it transforms the otherwise boring x35i platform into sound like a much improved version of the m3/m4 is the generation.
I had the Borla Stinger S-Type Catback Exhaust with Borla XR-1 Long Tube Headers on my 2011 Mustang GT and it was too loud...so flipping loud that I had to start the car with my garage door closed and idle out of the driveway so I didn't wake everyone in a 2 block radius. Nice to hear it's not the same for the 335i since I plan on making the change soon.
Borla doesn’t make A atak exhaust for the 2011 model 335is at least that’s what I have found dose anyone know if the 2012 atak exhausts will bolt on to a 2011 335is with no problems ?

Hello! This system will not fit the 2016 BMW 328i. You will need part number, 140509, for that vehicle. Please note, 140509 will only work with the 2.0T N20 engine. It will not work with the 2.0T N26 SULEV engine.
How is the droning with this exhaust in comfort mode? I had an Agency Power exhaust on my 335i; i absolutely loved it in sport mode, but being a daily i drive a lot in comfort mode and at LOW RPM's the tone of the exhaust would cause a lot of rattling noises in the car to the point I had to take it off and put the stock back on. Now i regret taking it off, but I can't stand the rattling in comfort mode. can anyone out there with the Borla on their car let me know how it is to live with? Thanks!
