PCV Valve made a big different for our two Honda Odyssey van and Acura TSX where they were eating up oil and engine felt heavy, it really brings the youth of the engine back big time, improve fuel efficiency, torque, power and free reving
yep, it did the same to my 150kMi ACURA TL. New PCV also cured the cold idle misfirings and sluggishness. Local Acura dealer made sure to never replace it so car felt old. Bad PCV even affects the exact transmission shifting points because the intake vacuum MAP sensor gets consistent readings. Now all the low rpm torque is amazing again after about 1KMi for PCM to relearn mixture map. No more engine vibrations from bad timings! 👍
Amazing and informative video, I had a bad pcv valve a couple months back on my 1.4 vw polo, was causing my engine to suffocate and switch off spontaneously. As soon as I replaced it was working 100% again.
the German build this new junko PCV with cheap rubber membrane so they can go bad in a hurry... where good old Japanese PCV useva trusted cone pintle on a seat are good for 110kMi - Who wins???
I can understand why a PCV valve that's stuck closed would cause pressurisation of the crankcase, and oil could be forced past the seals. I can understand that a PCV valve that is stuck open might allow too much air into the inlet manifold under high vacuum at idle. What I don't understand is why more oil should come through the PCV valve when the valve is worn or failed in the open position! Surely oil vapours will be drawn through anyway - hence the possible advantage of an Oil Catch Can.
On other car brands you will actually see this similarly being called as air oil separator or crank case ventilation unit, the PCV is a separate unit that attached to it. Why you get more oil is because the diaphragm that was shown in the video is already worn out, which in turn does not separate the oil in the drain back to the manifold. I only answer you in what I understand from other videos that I watched. Hopefully it helps
once it starts sticking to the roof of the PCV housing its basically time to replace. when the engine's running, the stuck valve won't be able to pull down with the vacuum. From a Renault scenic owner 😉
To understand: what force cause the PCV spring works (open/close)?... the vacuum or the pressure of the crankcase? .... because I have problem: I saw high vapor come out from the oil cap. wonder why! ..... I replaced with a after marker pcv valve 2 month ago. some one told me maybe i have blowby problem. I know what cause too much blowby, but before go throw the piston ring I wonder if with a oil catch can can fix this. But my question is, the pcv valve maybe is defective and no working properly to release that pressure??? PLEASE HELP !!!
the crankcase needs to be under vaccum to help pistons so they do not compress any air on the way down inside the crankcase. Else all engine seals will leak oil Of course pistons have some blowby pressure so more caccum is needed to compensate. Engine normal combustion suck a calibrated amount of air from inside the crankcase and also from throttle valve so mixture ratio can be calculated by PCM and measured by O2 sensors. Good PCV is important else engine idle has lean misfires from too much air! 👍
thank you for sharing all this knowledge. All PCV breather systems need timely maintenance because air mixture control is key for overall engine performance. Unfortunately there is no DTC code pointing to a failed PCV yet German PCV are designed to fail in a hury with skinny membrane unlike the proven Japanese pintle over seat. 👍

I would say, yes. At idle, the vacuum from the inlet manifold is maximum. The PCV valve should close in this condition. If it does not, (diaphragm split) there is an effective vacuum leak (through the crankcase), weakening the mixture and causing rough idle and stalling.
nop, engine crankcase *needs* to be under controlled vacuum so pistons don't need to compress air on the way down! The PCM software is designed to accounts for the air volume bypassing throttle plate.
