  • 2022 has brought some wonderful new products to be connected while working from wild and remote locations in our Sprinter van. In fact, life from the road is more productive than ever. In this video, Peter Holcombe discusses his tools to stay connected while working in the field as a professional photographer. In addition, this video covers the two newcomers to the scene, TravleFi, and Starlink. These two devices have made giant leaps in productivity while being far off the grid.

Do you think the TravelWifi would work well with video call meetings? where there is a signal?

Yes, It would work great as long as the signal strength can support it.

Hi Peter! Thanks for this video! Are you able to do Zoom meetings using the Trvlfi? We've been doing the comparison and our biggest need is to be able to Zoom once or twice a week (or upload a video post to Instagram) while we are boondocking. Not sure it's worth making the SL investment given we are never sure if we will have an open sky for reception. Though we do like the pause option which Trvlfi doesn't have. Trvlfi tells us that there is no issue with Deprioritization with their system because the are not "resellers" but reviews online dispute that. What is your experience? Also, Trvlfi does not do any 5g, correct? Have you used the Trvlfi in Canada (is it possible)? Thanks!

Hello, Great questions. Think of Travlfi just like cell coverage. Except you have access to 3+ carriers rather than just one. If your in an area with good cell courage it will work great and be fine for Zoom calls. But if your way out there and don't have cell coverage from the 3+ providers you won't have service. I find there are fringe areas where AT&T is bad but Verizon is strong, this is the ideal situation for Travelfi as it opens access to multi-carriers. I have had a handful of instances where it really made the difference being able to jump on another carriers tower and get work done. As far as I know right now Travelfi doesn't work in Canada. I'm in Alaska now and couldn't get it work around Homer so Alaska might not work as well but I couldn't find a clear answer looking on the Travelfi website.

@@Famagogo thanks so much for your feedback and the research. Currently you can purchase a add-on for Canada and Mexico. Of course, that doesn’t guarantee that those providers will be there. I’m not sure that you can get the roam service that you would normally be able to get if you were using, one provider such as T-Mobile. Somehow I doubt travel. Fire has negotiated those relationships. Do you have a cellular booster on board? If so, would you be willing to share which one? Thanks!
