I completely agree with you. I just got my first tattoo across my knee, and its quite large, and ever since I got it, I've felt so good about my body. I used to stand and stare at things I didn't like in the mirror, but now instead I'm looking and planning where I want certain tattoos to go. It's amazing what a pretty picture on your skin can do for you

totally agree! I wouldn't like wearing a vest or short sleeve tee before, now i look forward to wearing them in the summer!

Holly Astral yep, I'm right there with you! I went through a phase a few years ago where I wore nothing but long pants even in the hot summer, but now I can't wait to show off my legs with all my cool new art ✨ definitely a confidence booster

My tattoos help me so much in loving my body. That's actually a huge part of why I get them and also the placement. I have a very big one on my side and before then I hated my upper body, but not I can look at it and feel beautiful. My next one is on my legs as they are a huge insecurity for me. So I actually use tattoos to help me be more confident in my looks.

100% agree! Body modification has really boosted my confidence. I started getting tattooed at 17, and since then, with each new modification, my confidence has grown. I believe it has a lot to do with just doing things for yourself and not worrying about how that will be perceived. It has given me this attitude of "well I love it so you can F off if you don't!". And, if you can even see the cellulite under my tattoos, then you are looking way too hard at my body.

I have many different religious tattoos (as well as a few other non-religious ones) that often bring questions of curiosity, which is always fine with me. Sometimes I get the, "Why do you desecrate your body, which is your temple?" type stuff, but I say live & let live (to each his own). I agree with you, Ms Holly, that tattoos do bring an air of confidence, particularly in social situations. Take care & be safe.

I agree!! I also always had issues with my arms, but now that I have been getting work done to complete a 3/4 sleeve I have felt a confidence boost! I think dreadlocks also help! I always wanted them but was scared of any kind of attention I would get having them. I tried synthethics for a month and was a whole new person so decided it was time to do my natural hair! Its been so great! 2017 has already been the official building of ME!!!

Yay, neck tattoo! Exciting! Can't wait to get the front/sides done in the next few years. I'm getting the back of mine done in May with Jessi James. Also starting my full back piece in March which I can't wait for! Tattoos have really helped me feel more at peace with my body. I have a sleeve that is almost 99% complete, just needs a few touch ups and the feeling of full coverage on that arm is amazing. Makes me feel much more comfortable in my own skin. I normally wear sleeveless tops now, which is something I never felt able to do previously.

    Hello.
I'll agree for sure. I've never really been overly keen with my body (even guys get issues about their bodies) however since getting my first tattoo, a huge beautiful back piece, my respect for my body has risen and thus my self confidence has grown massively. Now the only slight problem is I want to show of my tattoo/art piece I was given but at times I feel it's not appropriate to go topless in public haha.
Either way I feel so much better in myself which is partly or heavily due to my tattoo, and that is just another reason why I love my tattoo.
    Peace & love ya'll

Agree so much! I have an absolutely beautiful piece on my lower back, and one on my hip/side that actually make me proud of wearing a bikini, which is something I never thought was possible! I've recently got got my first really visible tattoo, on my inner forearm, and I can't wait for the summer so I can really show it off 😄.

Yeah, I can say that the quality tattoos I have, I love to show off but I have a lot of old tattoos from a lot of friends that weren't really tattoo artists, so most of those don't invoke confidence.

that's a shame! I get lots of people in looking for coverups or laser over work that friends have done.

I've had body image issues since I was 11 years old (I'm 24 now) which got worse and now it's getting better and getting tattoos has definitely helped. I recently gotten a shin tattoo and I cannot wait for the summer time to show it off :P whereas before I was extremely ashamed of my legs. Still don't like them and they still are something I need to work on, but I thinking getting more tattoos on them will definitely help.

My tattoos do give me extra confidence, but as I've only drawn my own I think of them like totems somewhat as each evokes a different thing.
Btw, I have always wondered how tattoo artists feel about clients who want their own designs. Everyone I've asked feels differently and I'm curious what your take is, as a more seasoned professional?

I have two tattoos on my upper arms, one on each side. I call them the Franks. One is Frank from the 2014 movie about Frank Sidebottom. The other is Frank's tattoo from rocky horror, including the Boss part. These are the two that give me confidence. Boss? Damn straight I am!

I am not a fan of feet but once I got mine tattooed I learned to like them more. Having well done tattoos that you continue to enjoy long after they were done does make you feel good. Nice too when folk you didn't expect to like them, tell you they appreciate the art of tattoos you have. I have a problem with my upper arms and will one day get a half sleeve.

hey! i totally agree, learning to like myself one area at a time. I really want to start on my upper arms so i have the confidence to show them in public, but I've been putting it off as I'm nervous an artist would struggle or be unable to do my bingo wings! they are quite floppy from years of yo yo dieting and weight losses and gains, is it still possible to do even like simple shading work or something over them so they blend with the rest of the sleeve? or would i be turned away? thanks for any advice x

I really related to this video, I'm a real thin, deathly pale guy and I've always thought I looked like a complete freak. I was mortified initially when I had to take my shirt off to get my shoulder done. Afterwards I felt much better because regardless of being a weak elongated bag of bones, I have a beautiful peice of art that means a lot to me.

What tips do you recommend on getting a half sleeve? Do u plan the whole thing out in one sesh with the same tattoo artist? Does the artist help u figure out placement and how to make the sleeve flow? Sorry im clueless.

    • @HollyAstralTattoo

depends on the look you want to achieve - one seamless tattoo or a collection of pieces by artists you like. Best to book in with an artist near you and have a chat :)

Nice shirt if you were to shrink it down it could be worthy of a tattoo design. Also that is a beautiful tattoo of the bear ??

Don't know about them giving you confidence, I'd not be surprised that they do. But they always seemed to me more of a statement to others of self-confidence. Visibly showing others that you have the confidence and comfort in yourself and your skin that you can put something personal right out there for all to see. Just think that's another take on the confidence thing, not just what it gives you, but what it projects to others. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts with all of us.
