When I watch your videos I feel like you’re teaching me something that I could actually do. I appreciate this so much. Another thing that you are teaching is how to work through a problem. When we see you work through the painting process or the laser cutting of the panel, it really opens our eyes to the possibilities that we can pursue. I just stumbled on your channel, and... "what a find!". I love your work, you do a very professional job. I'm in the middle of doing much of the same work on my plane as well due to upgrades, and my 12' garage table looks exactly like yours 😂. I also use GRT (dual Mini-AP) and a mix of fuses and circuit breakers, but my mission is a bit different in it that I do longer distance trips and IFR operations. I like the fact you do most of your own wiring (same here), that is the only way to really make a custom fit setup, and I think having to work through the manuals to come up with those in the first place goes a long way toward the ease of maintaining your creation in the future. Keep up the great work, and keep detailed electrical drawings. I find I spend almost as much time "wiring" on the computer as I do on the airplane itself, and my printer is always spitting out the latest drawing to go in my electrical binder. I use OmniGraffle for my drawings as it allows me to anchor the wires at both ends and move components around without loosing the connection. One thing I would double-check on your installation is the position of your ELT. I have the same unit, and if my memory serves me well it must be installed horizontally, with the arrow facing in the direction of flight. Perhaps you have already considered that. A lot of good info in this one, Bryan. I'm going to plan to watch it again to soak up what I missed the first time around. I can see why a lot of builders have their panels professionally wired. It's a lot of tedious work. But the job you're doing is first rate. Question on the mounting of the ACK ELT. Shouldn't it be mounted so that it is aligned with the longitudinal axis (direction of flight) of the airplane? I'm planning to replace my old 121.5 ELT with that same ACK unit for my Stinson. Also, what was the receiver audio out pin for that you said you didn't need? Was that for a speaker for the transceiver (radio)? Stinson guy.

Hey Kevin, when you are adding all this stuff to the aircraft, is there a plan on where to locate each item in order to true up the CG and load distribution for a more balanced overall weight? I also assume that there’s a plan to keep track of the appropriate weight as you go along to have some idea the bottom line projection near completion. I also wonder if the compitetion factor for racing has a factor in all the weight your adding and the build? Thanks

Check your ELT installation. All of them I've installed require that they be mounted horizontally with a specific end to the front of the airplane. Yours appeared to be vertically mounted
It all looks great! When I first heard of the yamaha engines I had my doubts but it looks like a lot of details are really well sorted. I'm looking forward to seeing you fly. For your fuel pump selector if you wanted to keep the same style switch as the rest you could use the single pole to cycle a double pole relay. (or two in parallel for redundancy). You may have thought of that already and elected not to for weight or simplicity but in the off chance you hadn't it's another way of making it work.

@@BowenAero I was going to make a comment about the ELT orientation but it appears others have covered that. It is amazing that how many people, Who are a&p's and supposed experts, that do not pay attention to that important installation instruction. AND yes it feels like Christmas when receiving those packages until a shipment goes back to them with that darn check! My first build I used a bussman mini blade fb where I could include micro solenoids for exciting the avionics buss for example. You are right about the failure aspect, but in my installs I do not fuse critical circuits through them. I felt the same way as you about the VP but on the 4th look through, the trim and flap features were a nice feature. I did not use a VP on my last build but if to do another I may consider it. Thanks so much for your selections AND REASONING. I am sure many of us want to hear that important info. What was your reasoning for the IPAD pro? Seems a bit overkill for its purpose? THANKS AGAIN
Just a question. Have you got any critical switches at the bottom of your panel. Had an issue that a long legged passenger tripped the c/b for the fuel pump.
Good choice on avoiding vertical power. Primary advantage is weight savings by eliminating circuit breakers- you already achieved that with your fuse setup. No issue with that here- this is a simple airplane and doesn't need more failure points. Personally I thing Vx power is an overblown fad for simple GA aircraft.

No polarized glasses for flying. Most glass panels will have issue with polarized lenses. I don't have any issue with sun glare on the panel in my model 5.
After watching close to two dozen of your videos, I started wondering why do you have a number 4 on your kitfox 5, why not a number 5. Again just wondering if I missed something. er
@@BowenAero I went thru GRT efis and pfd options before I made this comment. as I read them I was under the impression that you can use the panel buttons to operate the autopilot functions. I am probably wrong as always. lol they made the comment that grt was only company that had this in their panels so this is why I made the first comment. any how very nice work I learn a lot from you.
@@MrBarbuster You can operate the Auto pilot from the EFIS, yes, but you need the switches I installed to turn it on, then the heading/Nav can be done through the screen.

Thanks for the suggestion for OmniGraffle, I'll check it out. A couple people have pointed out the ELT mounting error, I will have to relocate it.

I'm doing it by hand on paper.
Does the FAA have to inspect it when you are done? OR I think your Canadian? So what ever you boys have up there.
Not Canadian, haha. Yes a DAR ( designates airworthiness representative) has to complete an airworthiness inspection.

Is that ELT oriented properly so that crash deceleration will activate it? You can't just install them in any orientation...
You are correct, it has been remounted, I’ll cover that in the next video.
Did you purchase the Apex Engine from BD Turn Key Engines?
No, just the AEM electronics
Check your mounting instructions on the ELT I have the same one and it is to be mounted flat so the centrifugal force in an accident will turn it on..

Fuses: You might want to use LED/lit fuses--- much easier than probing for which one is blown
