- In this video we give you step by step instructions on how to attach fittings to your Gumotex or Grabner inflatable boats. No matter whether you want to attach D-rings for securing luggage, keel strips for additional protection against damage, rod holders for better storage of your fishing rods, a pad for retrofitting a fin (on boats that are delivered without one, e.g. Gumotex Scout) or other fittings on your inflatable kayaks or inflatable canoes. We will explain to you exactly how you should go about it and give you useful tips to achieve the best possible result.

There are many different fittings. Here are the best known / most useful ones and their intended use:
D-rings or other attachment points: D-rings or other attachment points are usually used when you want to better attach luggage to the boat. For example, we have expanded our Gumotex Seawave to be able to attach Grabner bags to it (video about the Seawave: • GUMOTEX SEAWAVE: Setup... ).
But there are also other uses, such as retrofitting a circumferential safety rope. There are special fittings from Gumotex for this.
Rod holder: On some boats you have the option of attaching rod holders with a screw mechanism. But there are also boats that do not offer this option and at least here you can only use stick-on pads (e.g. Railblaza RibPort with StarPort) that can hold a rod holder.
On our Gumotex Scout (Video about the Scout: • GUMOTEX SCOUT: unsere ... ), we screwed long rod holders onto the middle bench. In order to be able to leave these out and have more space for luggage, we installed two rod holders from Railblaza and we are very happy with the result.
There are also other attachments for such pads, such as an echo sounder holder set or for the screen of an echo sounder.
Keel strips: The high-quality boats from Gumotex and Grabner are very robust, but of course occasional wear and tear occurs and with keel strips, which are attached to the most stressed areas, longevity can be increased.
Retrofitting a fin: Many boats already have a fin holder from the factory and are delivered with a fin. This is not the case with the Gumotex Scout or Gumotex Palava, for example, but it can still make sense to retrofit a fin.
We retrofitted a fin on our Scout and this greatly improved its directional stability on calm waters. We can recommend this to anyone who wants to do longer sea tours with one of these boats.

ADHESIVE QUANTITY: For keel strips (11m) and the two rod hook pads we used 2x 250ml. For all work such as D-rings or fin holders, i.e. smaller jobs, the 100ml of Grabner or 15g tube of Gumotex glue was enough for us.
If in doubt, it's better to buy too much glue! If the glue runs out during the gluing work, it is very annoying.

Hallo ihr Zwei. Ein schönes Video, verständlich erklärt und gut dargestellt.
Bei eurem Seawave habt ihr die günstigen D-Ringe aus PVC angeklebt. Habt ihr das mit dem Elastick von Gumotex gemacht und hält das auf Dauer?

Die D-Ringe am Seawave haben wir mit dem Grabner Werkstattkleber geklebt. Das ist ca. 2 Jahre her und sie halten immer noch bestens. Die Finnenhalterung am Scout haben wir mit dem Gumotex Elastick angebracht. Das ist auch schon knapp ein Jahr her und es hält ebenfalls super. Da beim Elastick explizit dabei steht, dass er für PVC geeignet ist, würden wir uns auch bei D-Ringen trauen, diesen zu verwenden. Beim Grabner Kleber steht das nicht, aber bei den Pads für die Rutenhalter aus PVC hat es auch bestens funktioniert. Ich denke, das wichtigste ist, dass die Flächen ordentlich vorbereitet werden und dass man an den Rändern sauber arbeitet. Beim Elastick sollte man aber unbedingt auf die kürzere Verarbeitungszeit achten. Ich habe gesehen, dass es den Elastick mittlerweile in einer neuen Verpackung gibt und hier wird nun auch gesagt, dass er für Beschläge geeignet ist. Bisher wurde uns davon immer abgeraten.
