    I'm a patreon for Geoff and VoicePlay. They are so thoughtful and generous of their time to chat with fans 2-3 times a month. They are the real deal. You can tell they are genuinely appreciative of their fans. I don't know of any other significant Patreon creators that make time to chat with fans.

    Geoff played the part wonderfully. Not only did he get the emotion that the song portrays but he also added parts from the movie. Patting his leg to call the dog and managing to make it like his head was removed. Before he calls the dog if you look at his eyes during a verse they glow.

    He said this song was a really fun challenge vocally and theatrically. He let his sense of humor show through. He is already thinking about what to do next year. The view count has already passed VoicePlays HELLFIRE.

    The character is Jack Skellington, The Pumpkin King. It requires someone with the range and talent of Geoff to sing this. In the movie it was the composer Danny Elfman, lead singer of Oingo Boingo with a wild range and vocal power. (He's written dozens of movie scores.)That's why I keep suggesting Geoff do Oingo Boingo's 'Dead Man's Party', a truly great Halloween party song. Maybe some day.

    This one makes me f***ing CRY every time I watch it. There's something in it that breaks my heart. Kudos to Geoff for this rendition of this song. I don't know the movie, never seen it, but heck, I start thinking about watching it.

      @@christinestromberg4057 Actually, it's kinda strange that I haven't seen it. I happen to LOVE animated movies, but for some reason this one went under my radars. I have it, but I never watched it... Which makes it even weirder. 🙂
      As soon as I get a couple free hours straight, I'll watch it. 🙂

      @@DavideBaroniI never planned on watching the movie. I am a little contrary and when everybody was raving about it I was determined not to watch it. But I really appreciate the artistry of stop action photography. It takes a lot of work !
      And then I heard this song and I watched the movie. And it is now something I do turn to this time of year. The movie is a lot more than just a “cartoon”. It’s about a man’s search for his true identity.

    • @DavideBaroni
      @DavideBaroni ปีที่แล้ว

      @@janetdw Most cartoons are much more than "just cartoons", at least since a few decades ago... At least since "Shrek". Watch the "How to train your dragon" series for an example, or "Up", or "Encanto" (one of the best movies I've seen in the last decade, period), or many others. Actually, I almost only watch "cartoons" since they have much more "story" and less "special effects" than "normal" movies, IMHO. 🙂

    Great reaction! and your background, we have the same one running on the tv love it! I really like the way this leads right into the next song "What's This" they did a few years ago. This make 5 Nightmare Before Christmas songs between them. Jack Skellington's dog Zero is my favorite character from the movie.

    Love your jump from Geoff's jump scare.
    Yes. That was Kathy, his wife. She is his and Voiceplay's Production Manager. So she's at all film shoots.
    For this movie some people say it's for Christmas but most say it's for Halloween because of it being so spooky and Halloweeny.

    Great reaction, guys!! Fun fact, Geoff always has trouble with the contact lenses. The first few times he wore them, he couldn't put them in himself. There is a behind the scenes of Eli in one and Layne (I think) in another putting themi n for him. How much do you trust your friends to let them stick a finger in your eye???

    I love Nightmare before Christmas, and this song always made me tear up, But Geoff Has made this song truly come to life and givin it a more melancholy feel. And this song definitely needed a low bass cover. I definitely felt the sadness and loneliness of this song. So amazing!! Great reaction!!

    It's not one of my all-time favourite movies, but "The Nightmare Before Christmas" is definitely my favourite Hallowe'en movie! I used to watch it most years but I don't think I've seen it in the past decade. Geoff and VoicePlay have covered so many songs from it now; this is one of my favourites, probably second only to _Oogie_ _Boogie's_ _Song._ Boo!

    This movie has been a tradition for me to watch every year not only because it’s a good Halloween movie but as a kid I was so into stopmotion and shooting 24 frames per second meant the animators had to create unique motions for 110,000 frames total. One minute of the movie took about a week to shoot, and "The Nightmare Before Christmas" took 3 years to complete.

    • @janetdw

      When I think of stop action photography I think of this and the California raisins! It was such a novel and innovative technique when it came out that people were absolutely blown away. It’s sort of a lost art like the old cels that they used to use to create animated films.

  • @janetdw
    @janetdw ปีที่แล้ว +4

    If you decide to go back and watch the movie, you might really pay attention to the music. It’s what drew me in the first time. I was *not interested* in watching this movie. I have to be in just the right mood to watch anything by Tim Burton .
    But the music, especially this song, is just so incredible. So I watched it again. And then again. And now I love it. Not to the point where it’s my favorite movie but it is something I will watch probably at least once a year around this time of year.
    This was quite the roller coaster ride. His switching back-and-forth between registers really emphasizes the two sides of Jack. He’s revered for his scary side, but he wants to do something just a little different.
    This has always been my favorite song from the movie. It’s a beautiful song, and Geoff’s little character details really bring Jack to life. He has the most expressive hand gestures!! When Geoff finger-walks across the top of the piano, his hands actually look skeletal. (Rick’s makeup job was exceptional as always.) I appreciate all the little touches of humor: when Jack says “bonjour”, recited Shakespeare and I *love* the slump when he’s Mr. Unlucky😞.
    How is it that Tony and Layne had a snow machine to give that nod to the snow globe?
    Oh, and he made a mug available with that creepy skeleton guy if you want one😂. I know that he did the artwork for the logo on Ghost Riders and I wonder if he did this artwork as well. Because it is creepy but it’s really really cool.

    I think this is Geoff's best work yet, and that's really saying something, because I love pretty much everything he does.
    You guys really should give "The Nightmare Before Christmas" another try. I'm not one of those who say it's the greatest movie ever, but I do think it's a great movie. Much more than a "cult classic."

    .....Coraline does NOT have a cute storyline in it. It's dark and creepy and all kinds of freaky nightmare fuel.....I have no idea why it was marketed for ki--oh, right, cuz it's animated and animation is 'safe' for 'small children.' Any kid who watches that is gonna need therapy for years and likely so will you. Is it a good movie? Spectacular genre animation. Are there all kinds of seriously terrifying bits? Packed with horror. Should you watch it? Absolutely. Just be sure to have a nightlight handy for the next month and a half.
