Fix your rear derailleur indexing (tons of videos online), get some clipless pedals (even cheapies from China), get some proper riding kit as it makes a big aero difference compared with street clothes (again, even cheapies from China are better than street clothes), work zone 2 rides a few times a week (2-3x), hit some heavy climbing or speed intervals once a week. You'll quickly progress.
General rule, better to pedal faster in a lower gear, than slower in a higher gear, about 90 pedal strokes per minute cadence, range of at least 80 - 100....& Toe clips + straps are better than nothing, cheaper than clipless.....Home Depot has excellent, leather palm, fingerless work gloves....keep at it, we were ALL BEGINNERS, once!..... Btw, take a few yoga classes, to learn some pranayama....
