  • This is a demo of an alto saxophone stamped as being an Amati Tone King but it is a Keilwerth Tone King. It has a high Eb and G# trill key.
Played with Meyer 7 SM mouthpiece with Rico Royal #3 reeds.

No: It is an Amati saxophone made on / with the old Keilwerth tooling and essentially the same as the Keilwerth saxes before Julius moved to Germany. Great horns "with the right mouthpiece".

I‘m about to buy one just like this. What is „the right mouthpiece“? It doesn‘t come with a mouthpiece, so what kind of mouthpiece do I need?

@@nikolaibaas2776 I would suggest a MP with a medium to large chamber. If you have financial restrictions try Rico Metalite M5 or M7

I have it now, and I play it with an old Keilwerth mouthpiece I‘ve bought on eBay. On it is written J.Keilwerth and „5“ and it is so slim, I need a Soprano Ligature for it.

I play my Amati now with a Meyer M6M, and it works very well.

I think, the after second WW2 models are the same, because Keilwerth is gone, but the handcraft producers stand there und buil futher thede good models Toneking.

was Amati "allowed" to make them? Or did they just do it without permission? After the war the Czech factory was nationalized and they continued making the same horns under a different name, for sale in Soviet countries. That's the history as I understand it anyway.
Also what's the SN# on yours?

Hi James, On Wikipedia it says the following "In 1948, the old Julius Keilwerth production facilities in Graslitz, now Kraslice, became part of the Czech Amati collective, however the first saxophones that Amati sold were still stamped with the "JGK - Best in the World" trademark, had the model name "Toneking" and had Julius Keilwerth serial numbers". I think this is one of these horns.
