wireless play requires two people in close proximity (like, in the same room). it's still possible to do on real consoles with no workarounds required because wireless doesn't use nintendo wifi. wireless and wifi features are pretty much the same, except maybe you can trade non-giga chips using wireless. I don't remember 100%. sorry for the late reply

melonDS doesn't work on phones, so you'll need a PC if you want to use the emulator
