  • This is the mall I went to in my youth! They are trying to revive it for as you can see the place is dead. This mall was the place to go in the south suburbs of Chicago in the 70's and 80's!!

Good memories of the mall late 70s early 80s. riding bumper cars and playing video games in the voluminous LeMan's Speedway, eating Hot Sam's pretzels, tapes at Record Bar, cigs at Tinder Box, cool duds at MerryGoRound and Carson's. And many movies at the movie theatre across the parking lot. McDs and Jokers Wild. whew!

I worked at that McDonald's for about 18 months. I think it was one of the busiest in America. Certainly it was at Christmas time. We were always slammed. Someone I knew worked at a Burger King a few miles away (on Sauk Trail in RP). One of the managers there bragged that they'd do a thousand-dollar day. When I worked at the mall McD's, we did thousand-dollar _hours._ That cemented the way I thought of MCD's vs BK: One if the clear leader, the other is a distant second.

As I recall the McDonald's had a unique western theme and it always seemed busy. Interesting note about the amount of business it had. 👍

Alladins Castle was the best. I remember playing Afterburner and Punch Out. I think the last game I played was Shadow Dancer before it closed down. My Mom would give me a couple of dollars to play games while she had a cigarette waiting for me outside that dark, red carpeted arcade of my childhood. Great memories. I remember the layout and all. Then when that closed.... On to Bremen Mall for the $14.00 Saturday's when it was Play all you want for that cost. Couldn't beat the $1.00 movie theater either. Software Etc was also an all time favorite. I bought the first Elder Scrolls there. I remember marveling over the PC Big Box games. And in the window was the Neo Geo behind the glass..... The want of every 8 year old at the time. If nothing was there I could afford, I would hit Venture up nearby where I bought D&D Gold Box games for $10 bucks.

I used to live in Chicago Heights. I remember this place being popular when I was a kid. I visted this mall a few months ago, the J.C. penny and Macys stores where torn down and the exterior of the building left unfinished. J.C. pennys built a new independent building south of the mall. At this point, I think this malls days are numbered.

Hearing Julian Lennon's Too Late For Good-byes sums up the state of the malls today....

One thing that always stood out. McDonald’s facade. It was like one inch thick plywood with x’s cutout and painted red with yellow backing. My Mom would take us to McDonald’s. My Grandma would take us to Orange Julius. Out by the road was Poppin’ fresh pies. I believe there was a restaurant across from it? Memories! None of that stuff is there anymore.

I grew up going to both and you are right. Lincoln is finally gone, sadly. The last piece (Carson's) is being demolished currently. It's so sad! River Oaks is being overrun by gangs and thugs. The stores are almost dead there too. Another mall and city ruined by crap. :-/

I also remember the Orange Bowl pizza place. I loved their pizza and O'Joys (Jays?). My best friend at the time thought I was crazy. He was probably right.

My mother worked at Penney's in the mall from the early 70s until around 1980. My fiancee and I (we were living in New York at the time and went back to Illinois on vacation to visit my parents) spent a lot of time there. It was a great place with lots of stores and lots of things to do. So sad that it is no more.

Lincoln Mall may be on the decline, but it still holds sentimental value to me (actually took an impromptu trip there not too long ago). I used to visit Santa and the animatronic reindeer there every Holiday Season from 1976 - 1985. Back then, they had the best Carson's in terms of space, displays, and aesthetics (compared to Evergreen Plaza & Ford City).

I remember Jokers Wild very well indeed. When I was in the second grade at Dogwood School, a classmate brought some fake vomit to class. The source? Jokers Wild. I dragged my mother there moments after returning home. For the next several years, most of me and my brother's Christmas shopping was done there.
Years later, I worked at the McDonald's a few doors down from where JW used to be. Ah, memories...

Wow! Dogwood school. I went there when I lived in the co ops. Went to Forest Trail for a year before moving away. I still vaguely remember the school song from Dogwood.

    • @WonkaVator72
      @WonkaVator72 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@edmondlau511 So do I! It was sung to the tune of "Edelweiss." In fact, Dogwood's was the first version I'd ever heard. So when I heard the _actual_ "Edelweiss," it sounded wrong to me ;-).
Like you, I lived in the co-ops. In fact, I was immediately across the street from Dogwood... and regularly late ;-).

@@WonkaVator72 wow! I just looked up the Edelweiss song and replaced the lyrics “this is the place where we learn to live. Learn to live together…” 😂
I lived on Elm across Western. We walked unless the weather was bad. Remember the sidewalk that ran parallel with Dogwood? We used to take that and my mom would say don’t take that in case I end up picking you up from school. Remember the crossing guard lady at Western? She worked at Fuddruckers in Matteson.

@@WonkaVator72 I still remember names of teachers from Dogwood. Tanenbaum was the principal but she retired and then came back as a sub or something like that. I had Mrs. Bryant, Mrs. Daniels, Mrs. Barnett. Owens was the gym teacher. Mr Cobb was the janitor.

@@edmondlau511 When I was there, Mrs Schwartz was the principal. Tanenbaum was the principal when I went to Algonquin. I def remember Owens. The janitor in my day was Tony Angellotti. First grade was Mrs. Clayton, second and third was Currins/Anthony. They were teamed up so I had them both for two years running. They were all great.
