The people are just as important as the mountain. People on the East Coast have a different mentality. You're not going to see too many people in Colorado getting to the mountain an hour early just to ski in the rain. Our passion is On a slightly different level.. putting in 100 days Plus on a mountain that doesn't receive snow for weeks at a time requires a whole different level of commitment.

Very cool. I’m a northeast lifer, a skier and a mountain biker now 64. The growth of all season “backcountry”/ non resort adventure sports has been on the boom. It’s all good, better information available through the internet, better mapping/tracking/emergency location finding. Better equipment in every area of gear.
The one variable that has not changed is nature. The wilderness is still all it was, majestic and unforgiving. The “new people” out in the woods are the new caretakers. As an old Boy Scout it goes without saying that I carry in, carry out, that I am prepared, and that I respect the woods….always. Don’t be the clown who leaves their trash on the ground or let’s their dogs run like they are the only humans for 1000 miles. More people, more need for consideration of others. Leave it the way you found it.

You can check the non profits he talks about, they probably have maps for their projects.
I hope VT gets a good winter this year!
