I think that shows that the generations should become longer now that the development times are so long, the devs can't make full use of the hardware like they used to back then on the PS2. It's been 10 years and devs still feel the PS4 is a viable platform, I would be fine with delaying the PS5 a few years and getting a much more powerful hardware that the PS4 can't get even close to.
I hope so, only got the PS5 this year and to be honest, if it wasn't for a bonus I've got I'd probably still be playing on PS4 just fine since there was still a ton of things in my backlog.
Might also be because it took forever for a sizeable customer base for the Xbox Series X and PS5 (cause quarantine) was built while they were developing the game they needed to also look at the avenue of releasing on the current console.
Because the gap between generations is not as large as it was in earlier generation transitions. It really is that simple. Tech nerds may care about specs but to a casual audience as long as the game doesn’t crash they will play games available on a system that they already own.
True, but another reason why people aren't upgrading to the newer systems is that there aren't that many current gen only titles that draw people towards those newer systems.
@@vargsiebermy general rule for upgrading a console is at least 5 games I play to completion and 2 I will play on repeat (Multi-player like Mario Kart or Halo). After getting a nice PC and a Switch I don't have any reason to even consider a new console.

They're simply too expensive and I'm not 20 anymore. Most of their fan base grew up, had kids, lives paycheck to paycheck, and can't burn $500 on a new toy. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
My friend just got a PS4 a little over a year ago (which he got from his brother, who wasn't using it any more). Until then he was still playing his PS3. He actually gave me his PS3 last November as I offered to take it from him when he was getting rid of it.
Still gaming on my Switch and on my PS4 and I'm not in a rush to upgrade. With the current economic situation in my country (Hungary), a PS5 or high-end PC is just out of reach for me and most of my friends. But here's the thing, we're not missing out on much. I recently played through Resident Evil 4 Remake on my PS4 Pro wich has a rock solid 30 FPS, and it was an absolutely incredible experience. It really makes you wonder if upgrading is even necessary right now. I won't even buy the Switch 2 because I still have sooo many games in my backlog. Upgrading is not necessary for me

I only bought a PS5 slim last month, when they were $50 off, because most of the new releases I wanted have been on PS4 and PS5 and I just felt like it wasn't worth it to buy one until there were at least a few games I wanted that I couldn't play on my PS4.
Some people like me are still using the Xbox one and the PS4. Not everyone can afford the new $500 plus consoles. We have other priorities, like paying bills, buying food for our families. Why spend money on a new console when the other is still working great? The only people i see complaining about companies putting out content for the last generation consoles are TH-camrs.

I don't know if the Switch' successor existence will extend the life of the PS4, but who knows, the PSOne was supported for almost 12 years, the PS2 for 13 and the PS3 for 13 years as well. The PS4 was released on late 2013, so maybe developers will keep supporting it until 2026
Definitely more powerful than a PS4. Pro level sounds about right, but the architecture is way different. Making switch 2 games ps4 compatible may not be worth it
@@Ash_Yu nope it won't be way different. Gone are those days. Back in the days, the PS3 architecture was so unique, it was neat impossible to optimize a game for it without indepth education on it. Nowadays all the systems are very similar and 99% of developers are using well know commercial engines and development kits that are integrates well with ARM, Nvidia, AMD, and Intel. And I'm 100% certain it will be closer to base PS4 than PS4 Pro. Even the steam deck is closer to PS4 than PS4 Pro and the next gen Nintendo switch is certainly not gonna more powerful than the steam deck because of cost. Nintendo isn't gonna sell at a loss and Nintendo isn't gonna sell us a $600 base model.
I still play the PS4 because the PS5 is still super expensive. In fact I bought a Xbox for the first time ever because I found a brand new Series S on sale for 200 bucks.

RGG is an absolute machine that just churns out games by the dozen. Even if Yakuza Wars is a mobile game, they'll probably have another announcement or two lined up right afterward.
I've been gaming since the late 1980s. We're almost four years into this "new" generation and there is still no reason, no reason at all, to join it. A PS4 and Switch is everything you need right now.
I'll take it one further. Trade in that ps4 and keep the controller. Get yourself a PC and keep that Nintendo. Best decision ever made. (I owned ps4 og + pro) - after years and years, you realise half the stuff you're playing isn't very great. Nintendo always makes good shit regardless of graphics. I've been gaming since before the age of 5 in the early 90s. You are incorrect. The PS5 is an amazing console, on which I have over 500 games installed across PS4 and PS5. I have enjoyed games like Days Gone and God of War for the first time with faster loading and 60 FPS. I played Ratchet, Returnal, Stellar Blade, and Spider-Man 2, games that are not available on any other consoles (although the first two are now on PC). If you can't find something to like on PS5, that is a personal problem.
EA should be worried about losing the exclusive NFL license. I mean, all 2K would have to do is port NFL 2K5 to the newer consoles and PC, update the rosters, and they'll already have a better game than Madden.
To be honest Madden hasn't been good since PS2 after they changed the graphics engine and quit using motion capture sports games have sucked for 15 years

PS5 do not have small user base. It is 60 million and increasing. The problem is not number of users in platform. The problem is people don't give a sh*t about final fantasy because they are sh*tty games. Lots of Sony 1st party premium games did around 10 million on PS5 only while PS5 even had smaller userbase. Even Ratchet and Clank sold more than Final Fantasy games. Releasing on PC and Xbox will increase the number few hundred thousand. That's it. It won't double the sales.

as someone who still has a ps4, my reason for not upgrading is because i upgrade my xb1 to a xsx and saw next to no difference outside of loading speeds and the continued support of the last gen systems. the jump in generations isnt as exciting as it was before

The PS5 already has an exclusives crisis, with only 13 true exclusives more than 4 years into the generation, and the Xbox Series having 0. But now the two still having their games being cross-gen with PS4/One after 4 years is really starting to blur the line and raise concerns that the console war is dying. Meanwhile Nintendo is happily in their own world, doing the same thing they’ve always done, the Switch enjoying over 180 true exclusives and having become one of the top 3 best-selling consoles of all time, with the Switch 2 having more hype behind it than the PS5/XS combined and it hasn’t even been announced yet. I remember being excited for the 360 and the PS3 (and the PS4 to a lesser degree). But the Xbox One, PS5, and Xbox Series all ring hollow to me since I can play practically *ALL* those consoles’ games on my PC anyways, leaving Nintendo as the only console I need alongside my PC

I hate that we're in the position where a new football game could take ~8 years to get off the ground. I remember back in the 16-bit era we had numerous different sports game because they didn't cost tens of millions of dollars and close to a decade to make. Now we have 1 NBA game and 1 NFL game. Gaming is in such a weird place.

Id be happy if we got a really good sports game every three years. I'd rather they let it cook and not be full of micro transactions than get a broken moneypit of a game every 10 months.
Honestly wish they'd explore the possibility of releasing more experimental pixel art/lower budget games in between big 3D games. I personally lost interest in sports games as they became more and more realistic, and considering the sales figures of the latest Mario sports titles, I really think it's an underserviced market. More experimental titles would also give people a reason to buy the games other than a roster update and function as a more creatively engaging project for the developers.
I have a lot of friends with "Big boy jobs" and no time for games. They said they would build a cutting edge PC in a heartbeat and break the back if Half Life 3 ever came out.

I don't understand this whole surprise over bigger games still being released on last gen. It's stupid. The ps5 and Series consoles are lacking in games to this day and upgrading is not worth it. Not to mention, getting a second hand PS4 Pro or One X is super cheap now, and You have more games to play, and with xbox you still get backwards compatibility (without the whole fps boost tho). You know the reason why stuff keeps coming out for the PS4? Because the PS5 is too expensive. It can't get the adoption rates of even last gen, forget about previous generations. Sony can't have it all. They are charging a premium price for a premium product and expect the masses to buy it. That's just not going to happen in the current financial world. They need a less expensive alternative and the only less expensive alternative is PS4.
And its always games are so expensive to make now and the development takes a generation… like yeah you guys chose that.. is it not clear that these tentpole video game models arent working?
Cyberpunk, as per Digital Foundry was near flawless on PS5 at consistent 60fps at launch. Stark contrast to what we saw on base generation 8 hardware. Cyberpunk in hindsight should have released on generation 9 machines. Have no idea why they are releasing Jedi Survivor on last gen machines. Makes no sense.

The reason why Xbox One and PS4 gen is still alive is more to do with the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro, as it makes the diminishing returns on performance of the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles more apparent.
As someone who plays FFXIV daily, I am not surprised that square enix turns the most profit from it. Expansions, subscriptions, and digital items all sell really well.
I still use the PS4, have not picked up a PS5 or XBOX series X. PC gets so many of the new releases and I have a gaming laptop, plus I have a Switch and the Quest 3 I have all the great new games, and I can play them anywhere I want to play them (like in the living room while my Wife watches her boring shows, and I can still spend time with her).
I believe the xbox one and ps4 could have run all the way to 2025 and we could have started the ps5 and xbox series games in 2026. Giving game developers more time to learn gow to make games for this generation.

They wouldn't have learned anything new if they were still making games for the PS4 and Xbox One. The hardware needs to first be there in sufficient quantities for developers to even consider targetting it, then it takes years for the games to actually get made. If they launched in 2026 we'd be waiting until 2030 for the first native PS5 and Series games.
@@johntalmo3632 Ehh not with that 5400 RPM HDD, it makes the load times horrendous and thats why the switch has had an easier time lasting this long. Games load pretty quick from cartridge or internal storage on the switch which keeps it feeling modern.

This is false. Unlocked framerate to 60fps opposed to 30 on PS4 for majority of its library. I played through my expansive backlog of PS4 games on PS5 and majority were played at a locked 60fps without any strings attached. After experiencing 60fps for a game like Shadow of the Collosus, I can never go back to 30. Shadow Collosus is 60fps on PS4 Pro (performance mode), but it fluctuates far too much.

How were you duped? You now get to play 95% of your PS4 games at 60fps with unlock framerate opposed to the pitiful 30fps for a lot of the PS4 games. I can’t ever go back to 30 after plowing through my PS4 backlog on the PS5.
How were you duped when they didn't even try? Did they ever show anything interesting for the PS5 since its launch? No... people just went and bought it from scalpers for no reason. I only got a PS4 (Pro) by 2017 and only because it was actually dropping a lot of good stuff. The PS5 has Stellar Blade and.... a PS3 game (Demon's Souls).
Yeah one of my main reasons was for r and c rift apart. But was that game worth it for a whole ps5? I don't think so now looking back. Ragnarok and forbidden west were awesome, but ps4 games too.
im still on ps4. using a Slim model because my Pro ran into some issues, hard drive and maybe a few other things. lemme tell you, playing games on the Slim is rough.
When SquateEnix releases the third game for Final Fantasy 7 they will see an increase in sales from all 3 games as people will want to play all three games in the series from the start to the end.
It still doesn’t change the fact it underpreformed on PS5. They know they will eventually get more sales on Steam, Xbox, Switch 2. The low sales on Ps5 is still Jaw dropping to them. Baldurs gate sold an estimated 5 million+ on Ps5. And they are Turn based.. which is weird cause Square Enix developers tell me they can’t reach that type of audience with out button mashing combat that appeals to a wider audience
@@Theb0YWh0lived1 it is unfortunate as the game is amazing! The combat isn’t super button mashy, and I love turn based combat, but they somehow made the perfect blend of turn based and action in FF7. I just had to watch a TH-cam video to understand it because I was playing it wrong. Apparently some “fans of FF7” didn’t get this one because of remake where is wasn’t a one to one upscale of the original. I have always been a fan of FF7 since PS1 and I really enjoy the direction they have taken it. I’m at over 100 hours now and still haven’t finished the game as I am exploring everything trying to do all of the content as I go along.

@@SeanBMTThe multiversr shitnanigans, open world level design, traversal, and Ubisoft-tier chores were terrible. Everything else was great, even the combat. My favorite games are turn-based JRPGs, but VII Rebirth's combat was amazing. It would have been a must-buy if not for the multiverse crap. If its story was 1:1 of FFVII's and it was one game and not 3 games with 70% padding, it would be a must buy for us FF fans.
@@PlazDreamweaver I can see how the multiverse could turn some people off, I just accepted it as it isn’t the first FF to do this, and I liked that one as well. What is really making this one for me is the interaction and story development behind each character and seeing the interactions between the characters, they really feel more believable as a party. The open world design does get frustrating a little and the capcom/botw/totk find a tower get some missions is not my favourite, I expect every game to have a bit of jank. I still think overall it is a great game! And yes I do wish they came out with an upscale of the original as well because this FF7 is just the continuation of the last story.

I own both the Xbox One-X and the PS4-Pro, I had every intention of getting at least one "next gen" system (probably PS5) but as the games came out there was little to nothing that was compelling enough to plunk down the cash. Most of the initial games came out on the older systems, few of the games that didn't would I consider "must buy" and I seriously have a huge backlog of games on my current systems (Switch included) to play through. So eventually I'll buy the newer systems, but at this point I'm waiting for the "pro" versions of those before I do.
I've got a PS5 and a Series X, but I still regularly play games on my PS4 Pro and even PS3 that are hooked up elsewhere in the house. Not every game I want to play requires a full current-gen system, in fact there are remarkably few that justify needing to play on PS5 right now.
if the PS4 version of Jedi Survivor has the full game on disc(s) then I have no problem going back a generation. But if it is on two blu-ray discs, I have to question why EA didn't do that with the PS5/Series X Version.

I still use my PS4 Pro. Just don't feel like upgrading both my Playstation and TV at the moment. And I don't care about pixels and frame rate, as long as it's a relatively smooth experience and I can see what's going on in the game. I'll probably wait for the PS6.
At this point, I don't think it would be possible for the Switch to run a new mainline FF game, or that Square-Enix will develop a FF game specifically designed for the Switch, the most probable thing is that they're waiting for the Switch 2 to port some old FF games that couldn't run on the base Switch like the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy, XV and perhaps XIV. While I think Final Fantasy VII Remake could theoretically run on the Switch 2, I'm not sure the same could be said about VII Rebirth and XVI, and that's not taking into consideration if Square-Enix still has an exclusivity agreement with Sony regarding VII Remake, VII Rebirth and XVI
I refused to upgrade to ps5 at the prices they were at. Just found a used one for $325 and now have a ps5 but would have kept my ps4 happily for another year
I still use my PS4 Pro and haven't upgraded for a number of reasons. Mainly because: 1.) I didn't buy it until the end of 2019 and I want to get my money's worth and 2.) I haven't seen anything compelling enough to warrant the upgrade.

What a coincidence, I was just thinking about buying the Nsane Trilogy on Xbox cause I was in the mood for a platformer, and I've never played a Crash game before. I hope its as good as I'm hoping it is. I honestly dont understand the discourse around support for older gen consoles. They're still more than capable of running current games, especially indies. I have my Xbox One X hooked up in the family room, and it's perfect for party games and stuff like Apex Legends. I say the less ewaste, the better.
One X and One S here. Not gaming enough on Xbox to motivate a Series X, Elden Ring was the latest game we got for Xbox. We have multiple Nintendo Switch consoles that get more use. I'm still considering an SSD upgrade to speed up the One X but haven't gotten to it.
FYI, if the cutoff was June 30th then FFXIV Dawntrail WOULD likely be included as it went into early access June 28th by which time the vast majority of its sales were already made as the servers were extremely heavy for a good week and a half after that.
I still primarily use my PS4 and Switch. I tried to get a PS5 and Series X in 2020 and 2021 and couldn’t because of scalpers . Since then I said screw it and never upgraded . I know they’re available now but I’m still able to buy most new games on last gen. And the ones I can’t get I just get on PC
I sort of do that but with my Xbox and PS5. I’ll get certain game for different consoles just to get some use out of them. I honestly don’t touch my PS5 much cause I use my Switch and X way more. That new Art of Fighting is def going on my PS5. Nothing wrong with still having a PS4. Such a huge catalog of gems on it.

I have all the systems just didn’t feel like buying another ps5 but mostly use my portal to remote play my ps5 so just get some extra trophies here and there. My switch is really what gets played a lot and my steamdeck due to portability
As a halo fan, the FF situation kind of feels similar to what we've been facing, where the game has decided to split from what the core fanbase enjoyed; alienating the larger fanbase and now its got less support due to it playing different to the older games (among many other issues). Hopefully the upcoming SE games are sticking close to their old formula, seems they are wo im sure they will see more purchases from the turnbased hybrid gameplay enjoyers.
Still going strong on PS4 pro. I play regularly. And on occasion my PS3! The PS5 was always tempting, don't get me wrong. I bought it at launch but had a friend who wanted it more, and I was still gaming a ton on my PS4, Plus it happened to be his birthday. So, I sold him the new box. It was tough at first cause I really did want one, but they were impossible to find for a while. Then I had a lot of chances to get one but I realized all these new games are coming to ps4 so it killed that hype fast. Then when spiderman 2 came out the urge came again but at that time, and still now there's not enough exclusives, and this gaming generation has been lackluster. All the games I want to play are still on the PS4 minus a few on the ps5 which I'm totally happy waiting until the pro, or if it goes on PC, which was another thing they did this gen which was strange but welcomed, I don't know if I will have that console on my shelf this year. Plus Sony making a ton of bad decisions with VR & prices increases, only makes it easier not getting one, I'm perfectly happy with what I have and I don't feel like I'm missing out. All that said, I don't even have that much time to game, and i used thay money for the Steam deck!!! That, plus my Switch on top of the PS4. In terms of exclusives, I'm set.

@@odensjournal8373 Final Fantasy X, released about 23 years ago, was the last more traditional turn-based Final Fantasy in the mainline series. Since then Square Enix has tried several different approaches to varying degrees of success but, along the way, seemed to have lost the touch of what Final Fantasy actually is, for a lot of fans. Looking at the most recent one, for example, it's basically a medieval action game which, whilst it may be a great game, to many it feels like a spin-off.

They should drop the prices of the PS5 and Series X. Instead they've raised both to 550... You would think after nearly 4 years, it would go down in price, but instead it keeps going up. I wouldn't be surprised if they did another price increase later this year. It should be 399 for both versions, and 199 for the Series S.
In theory, consoles should drop in price after being on the market for years, and yet the Nintendo Switch has been on the market for 7 years, and it's hardly gotten a price drop at all.
Probably there will be a version for the next Nintendo's plataform, but for the current Nintendo Switch, I don't think there will be a port for this game.

As awesome as the recent God of War games are, I would love to see Sony Santa Monica try something new. Realistically, the studio is big enough that they could have a smaller dedicated team working on getting the new IP up and running without detracting much from development for the next GoW game and then full steam ahead when they are ready to push it towards release.
I still use my PS4 on a regular basis even though my PS5 is sitting right next to it. I am a physical only gamer and I use my PS4 more because of how much easier it is for storage. I love that I can hook up my 5TB external hard drive and press. I know that I could do that with my PS5 for my PS4 storage, but right now it is just easier to insert the disc in the system that is already set up and still runs the games. I only wish that the PS5 storage was a little more easy and less costly. Would love to be able to setup a solid state external hard drive and press. Would buy more PS5 games and not stress the storage of my PS4 games on this system as well.
Yup, still using my PS4 Pro. Playing GoW, FF7RE, Ghost of Tsushima, Spiderman, Witcher 3 and Dragon's Crown Pro... All runs well and still looks and sounds great... Not really looking forward to PS5 games yet, maybe Black Myth will change my mind.
I bought a Series X, but I still own my One X as well. One X is still an amazing Console even seven years later. Games running in Performance Mode on One X are nearly identical to the Series S version (1080p60~1440p60). Games running in Fidelity/Resolution Mode on One X are nearly identical to the Series X but at 4K30 instead of 4K60.
Gamepass has no future because who ever selecting the games is horrible at it and they're not making new good games that are valuable enough to pay for game pass most of Xbox first party titles suck.
Consumers are the reason cross-gen games are still around. They don’t want to upgrade, but still want shiny, new games, so these companies keep producing for old hardware to keep money flowing in. Cross-gen games limit scope and dampen production values for larger projects, yet people complain about the previous generation still needing high performance/quality games in 2024, while simultaneously complaining that this generation doesn’t push games far enough. Make it make sense.
Someone made this comment that with the impending Switch 2 console release... could legitimize keeping Xbox One/PS4 ports viable for a long time, as that is the closest power equivalent between ports.
I think publishers would be okay with holding back a generation in terms of power and graphics, since game budgets have gotten seriously out of control. We'll probably only see an occasional game, like GTA6, that requires a PS5/Pro to run. But yeah, I think we'll just see more of the same types of games and graphics so they can be ported to the Switch 2 and PS4/Pro.
As far as the PS5 is concerned, there are gust no games I'm really interested in. The most attracting game I've seen that I haven't already played on PS4/PC is the astrobot playroom game. I'm simply not swayed by multiplayer/online games because there is no guarantee it will still work by the time I will get around to them.
I just clocked Final Fantasy VII Rebirth which took me 100 hours to beat everything and now am replaying Remake intergrade again on PS5 and noticed Rebirth looks visually inferior to Remake which looks like next gen game and rebirth looks graphically like a PS3 early PS4 game, I'm not one to nitpick too much about graphics but Rebirth looks rough in some places.
It’s a much more demanding game with the open world so not really surprising. Remake looks much better on PS5 and PC. I’d imagine that Rebirth will look better on PC and PS5 pro, as well.
@@makasete30 Yes definitely, I don't know why Square Enix went for an open world game with Rebirth compared to Remake more tight campaign with better textures and less popin, hopefully PS5 Pro will give it a visual upgrade over base PS5 but hopefully for the next game in the series they iron out the visuals.

I think that shows that the generations should become longer now that the development times are so long, the devs can't make full use of the hardware like they used to back then on the PS2.
It's been 10 years and devs still feel the PS4 is a viable platform, I would be fine with delaying the PS5 a few years and getting a much more powerful hardware that the PS4 can't get even close to.
I hope so, only got the PS5 this year and to be honest, if it wasn't for a bonus I've got I'd probably still be playing on PS4 just fine since there was still a ton of things in my backlog.

Might also be because it took forever for a sizeable customer base for the Xbox Series X and PS5 (cause quarantine) was built while they were developing the game they needed to also look at the avenue of releasing on the current console.
Because the gap between generations is not as large as it was in earlier generation transitions. It really is that simple. Tech nerds may care about specs but to a casual audience as long as the game doesn’t crash they will play games available on a system that they already own.

My friend just got a PS4 a little over a year ago (which he got from his brother, who wasn't using it any more). Until then he was still playing his PS3. He actually gave me his PS3 last November as I offered to take it from him when he was getting rid of it.
Still gaming on my Switch and on my PS4 and I'm not in a rush to upgrade. With the current economic situation in my country (Hungary), a PS5 or high-end PC is just out of reach for me and most of my friends. But here's the thing, we're not missing out on much. I recently played through Resident Evil 4 Remake on my PS4 Pro wich has a rock solid 30 FPS, and it was an absolutely incredible experience. It really makes you wonder if upgrading is even necessary right now.

I only bought a PS5 slim last month, when they were $50 off, because most of the new releases I wanted have been on PS4 and PS5 and I just felt like it wasn't worth it to buy one until there were at least a few games I wanted that I couldn't play on my PS4.
Some people like me are still using the Xbox one and the PS4. Not everyone can afford the new $500 plus consoles. We have other priorities, like paying bills, buying food for our families. Why spend money on a new console when the other is still working great? The only people i see complaining about companies putting out content for the last generation consoles are TH-camrs.
As long as games for the newer systems aren’t compromised to release games for the old gen then it’s fine.

I don't know if the Switch' successor existence will extend the life of the PS4, but who knows, the PSOne was supported for almost 12 years, the PS2 for 13 and the PS3 for 13 years as well. The PS4 was released on late 2013, so maybe developers will keep supporting it until 2026

@@Ash_Yu nope it won't be way different. Gone are those days. Back in the days, the PS3 architecture was so unique, it was neat impossible to optimize a game for it without indepth education on it. Nowadays all the systems are very similar and 99% of developers are using well know commercial engines and development kits that are integrates well with ARM, Nvidia, AMD, and Intel.
And I'm 100% certain it will be closer to base PS4 than PS4 Pro. Even the steam deck is closer to PS4 than PS4 Pro and the next gen Nintendo switch is certainly not gonna more powerful than the steam deck because of cost. Nintendo isn't gonna sell at a loss and Nintendo isn't gonna sell us a $600 base model.
You can get a 2TB SSD for under $100. It is an easy upgrade for last gen.

I've been gaming since before the age of 5 in the early 90s. You are incorrect. The PS5 is an amazing console, on which I have over 500 games installed across PS4 and PS5. I have enjoyed games like Days Gone and God of War for the first time with faster loading and 60 FPS. I played Ratchet, Returnal, Stellar Blade, and Spider-Man 2, games that are not available on any other consoles (although the first two are now on PC).
If you can't find something to like on PS5, that is a personal problem.

Is it well known? In the making of GoW series it was said that they change the director for each GoW. So, that indicates Cory Barlog had no choice in the matter and it was made higher up.

Cory is working in an original IP, however, what it is exactly remains a secret. Stig Asmussen, the director of God of War 3, worked on a sci-fi game that was cancelled thought, he left to Respawn to work on the Jedi games. Maybe you're mixing both.
The PS5 already has an exclusives crisis, with only 13 true exclusives more than 4 years into the generation, and the Xbox Series having 0. But now the two still having their games being cross-gen with PS4/One after 4 years is really starting to blur the line and raise concerns that the console war is dying.
Meanwhile Nintendo is happily in their own world, doing the same thing they’ve always done, the Switch enjoying over 180 true exclusives and having become one of the top 3 best-selling consoles of all time, with the Switch 2 having more hype behind it than the PS5/XS combined and it hasn’t even been announced yet.
I remember being excited for the 360 and the PS3 (and the PS4 to a lesser degree). But the Xbox One, PS5, and Xbox Series all ring hollow to me since I can play practically *ALL* those consoles’ games on my PC anyways, leaving Nintendo as the only console I need alongside my PC

Every Final Fantasy since 10, has progressively gotten away from their core audience. I stopped playing them.
I hate that we're in the position where a new football game could take ~8 years to get off the ground. I remember back in the 16-bit era we had numerous different sports game because they didn't cost tens of millions of dollars and close to a decade to make. Now we have 1 NBA game and 1 NFL game. Gaming is in such a weird place.

Id be happy if we got a really good sports game every three years. I'd rather they let it cook and not be full of micro transactions than get a broken moneypit of a game every 10 months.
Honestly wish they'd explore the possibility of releasing more experimental pixel art/lower budget games in between big 3D games. I personally lost interest in sports games as they became more and more realistic, and considering the sales figures of the latest Mario sports titles, I really think it's an underserviced market. More experimental titles would also give people a reason to buy the games other than a roster update and function as a more creatively engaging project for the developers.
I have a lot of friends with "Big boy jobs" and no time for games. They said they would build a cutting edge PC in a heartbeat and break the back if Half Life 3 ever came out.

The reason why Xbox One and PS4 gen is still alive is more to do with the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro, as it makes the diminishing returns on performance of the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles more apparent.
As someone who plays FFXIV daily, I am not surprised that square enix turns the most profit from it. Expansions, subscriptions, and digital items all sell really well.
On at least one positive note, if survivor can come to last gen then hopefully they’ll update the PC version to be more optimized

They wouldn't have learned anything new if they were still making games for the PS4 and Xbox One. The hardware needs to first be there in sufficient quantities for developers to even consider targetting it, then it takes years for the games to actually get made. If they launched in 2026 we'd be waiting until 2030 for the first native PS5 and Series games.

Unlocked framerate to 60fps opposed to 30 on PS4 for majority of its library.
I played through my expansive backlog of PS4 games on PS5 and majority were played at a locked 60fps without any strings attached.
After experiencing 60fps for a game like Shadow of the Collosus, I can never go back to 30. Shadow Collosus is 60fps on PS4 Pro (performance mode), but it fluctuates far too much.
Most people like to play games they don’t buy frame rates. Most hardcore gamers forget that.

im still on ps4. using a Slim model because my Pro ran into some issues, hard drive and maybe a few other things. lemme tell you, playing games on the Slim is rough.
When SquateEnix releases the third game for Final Fantasy 7 they will see an increase in sales from all 3 games as people will want to play all three games in the series from the start to the end.
It still doesn’t change the fact it underpreformed on PS5. They know they will eventually get more sales on Steam, Xbox, Switch 2. The low sales on Ps5 is still Jaw dropping to them. Baldurs gate sold an estimated 5 million+ on Ps5. And they are Turn based.. which is weird cause Square Enix developers tell me they can’t reach that type of audience with out button mashing combat that appeals to a wider audience

I just had to watch a TH-cam video to understand it because I was playing it wrong. Apparently some “fans of FF7” didn’t get this one because of remake where is wasn’t a one to one upscale of the original. I have always been a fan of FF7 since PS1 and I really enjoy the direction they have taken it. I’m at over 100 hours now and still haven’t finished the game as I am exploring everything trying to do all of the content as I go along.

My favorite games are turn-based JRPGs, but VII Rebirth's combat was amazing. It would have been a must-buy if not for the multiverse crap. If its story was 1:1 of FFVII's and it was one game and not 3 games with 70% padding, it would be a must buy for us FF fans.
@@PlazDreamweaver I can see how the multiverse could turn some people off, I just accepted it as it isn’t the first FF to do this, and I liked that one as well. What is really making this one for me is the interaction and story development behind each character and seeing the interactions between the characters, they really feel more believable as a party. The open world design does get frustrating a little and the capcom/botw/totk find a tower get some missions is not my favourite, I expect every game to have a bit of jank. I still think overall it is a great game! And yes I do wish they came out with an upscale of the original as well because this FF7 is just the continuation of the last story.
I see Spawn just so happened to omit a certain "consulting" company being rejected by the Wukong developers and the "controversy" 🙄the games media desperately tried to generate as a result of them *daring* to tell them no. (and why it failed miserably and only helped the developers in the long run)

I own both the Xbox One-X and the PS4-Pro, I had every intention of getting at least one "next gen" system (probably PS5) but as the games came out there was little to nothing that was compelling enough to plunk down the cash. Most of the initial games came out on the older systems, few of the games that didn't would I consider "must buy" and I seriously have a huge backlog of games on my current systems (Switch included) to play through. So eventually I'll buy the newer systems, but at this point I'm waiting for the "pro" versions of those before I do.
I've got a PS5 and a Series X, but I still regularly play games on my PS4 Pro and even PS3 that are hooked up elsewhere in the house. Not every game I want to play requires a full current-gen system, in fact there are remarkably few that justify needing to play on PS5 right now.
if the PS4 version of Jedi Survivor has the full game on disc(s) then I have no problem going back a generation. But if it is on two blu-ray discs, I have to question why EA didn't do that with the PS5/Series X Version.

I still use my PS4 Pro. Just don't feel like upgrading both my Playstation and TV at the moment. And I don't care about pixels and frame rate, as long as it's a relatively smooth experience and I can see what's going on in the game. I'll probably wait for the PS6.

At this point, I don't think it would be possible for the Switch to run a new mainline FF game, or that Square-Enix will develop a FF game specifically designed for the Switch, the most probable thing is that they're waiting for the Switch 2 to port some old FF games that couldn't run on the base Switch like the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy, XV and perhaps XIV. While I think Final Fantasy VII Remake could theoretically run on the Switch 2, I'm not sure the same could be said about VII Rebirth and XVI, and that's not taking into consideration if Square-Enix still has an exclusivity agreement with Sony regarding VII Remake, VII Rebirth and XVI

The PS2 outlasted the PS3 well into the start of the PS4 life cycle. It's not really a surprise that the PS4 is doing the same with the PS5.
I refused to upgrade to ps5 at the prices they were at. Just found a used one for $325 and now have a ps5 but would have kept my ps4 happily for another year

I still use my PS4 Pro and haven't upgraded for a number of reasons. Mainly because: 1.) I didn't buy it until the end of 2019 and I want to get my money's worth and 2.) I haven't seen anything compelling enough to warrant the upgrade.

I honestly dont understand the discourse around support for older gen consoles. They're still more than capable of running current games, especially indies. I have my Xbox One X hooked up in the family room, and it's perfect for party games and stuff like Apex Legends. I say the less ewaste, the better.
Maybe the great majority see the 70 USD price tag and are like "F-off, I'll stick with PS4/last gen, thanks".
One X and One S here. Not gaming enough on Xbox to motivate a Series X, Elden Ring was the latest game we got for Xbox. We have multiple Nintendo Switch consoles that get more use.
I'm still considering an SSD upgrade to speed up the One X but haven't gotten to it.
I use my PS4 because I jailbroken it. Can play native ps2 and psp games on it and much much more
FYI, if the cutoff was June 30th then FFXIV Dawntrail WOULD likely be included as it went into early access June 28th by which time the vast majority of its sales were already made as the servers were extremely heavy for a good week and a half after that.

I still primarily use my PS4 and Switch. I tried to get a PS5 and Series X in 2020 and 2021 and couldn’t because of scalpers . Since then I said screw it and never upgraded . I know they’re available now but I’m still able to buy most new games on last gen. And the ones I can’t get I just get on PC

I sort of do that but with my Xbox and PS5. I’ll get certain game for different consoles just to get some use out of them. I honestly don’t touch my PS5 much cause I use my Switch and X way more. That new Art of Fighting is def going on my PS5. Nothing wrong with still having a PS4. Such a huge catalog of gems on it.

I have all the systems just didn’t feel like buying another ps5 but mostly use my portal to remote play my ps5 so just get some extra trophies here and there. My switch is really what gets played a lot and my steamdeck due to portability

As a halo fan, the FF situation kind of feels similar to what we've been facing, where the game has decided to split from what the core fanbase enjoyed; alienating the larger fanbase and now its got less support due to it playing different to the older games (among many other issues). Hopefully the upcoming SE games are sticking close to their old formula, seems they are wo im sure they will see more purchases from the turnbased hybrid gameplay enjoyers.
Final Fantasy XVI was fun. The combat mechanic does feel a bit simpler, but it still has a compelling combat system and story.
Jedi Survivor still runs pretty average on the PS5 at times.

Still going strong on PS4 pro. I play regularly. And on occasion my PS3! The PS5 was always tempting, don't get me wrong.
I bought it at launch but had a friend who wanted it more, and I was still gaming a ton on my PS4, Plus it happened to be his birthday. So, I sold him the new box.
It was tough at first cause I really did want one, but they were impossible to find for a while. Then I had a lot of chances to get one but I realized all these new games are coming to ps4 so it killed that hype fast.
Then when spiderman 2 came out the urge came again but at that time, and still now there's not enough exclusives, and this gaming generation has been lackluster. All the games I want to play are still on the PS4 minus a few on the ps5 which I'm totally happy waiting until the pro, or if it goes on PC, which was another thing they did this gen which was strange but welcomed, I don't know if I will have that console on my shelf this year. Plus Sony making a ton of bad decisions with VR & prices increases, only makes it easier not getting one, I'm perfectly happy with what I have and I don't feel like I'm missing out.
All that said, I don't even have that much time to game, and i used thay money for the Steam deck!!!

@@odensjournal8373 Final Fantasy X, released about 23 years ago, was the last more traditional turn-based Final Fantasy in the mainline series. Since then Square Enix has tried several different approaches to varying degrees of success but, along the way, seemed to have lost the touch of what Final Fantasy actually is, for a lot of fans. Looking at the most recent one, for example, it's basically a medieval action game which, whilst it may be a great game, to many it feels like a spin-off.
Is the current gen version of Jedi Survivor even fixed yet? I already beat the game and never had a reason to go back to it and the game was still buggy at that time

In theory, consoles should drop in price after being on the market for years, and yet the Nintendo Switch has been on the market for 7 years, and it's hardly gotten a price drop at all.

As awesome as the recent God of War games are, I would love to see Sony Santa Monica try something new. Realistically, the studio is big enough that they could have a smaller dedicated team working on getting the new IP up and running without detracting much from development for the next GoW game and then full steam ahead when they are ready to push it towards release.
I still use my PS4 on a regular basis even though my PS5 is sitting right next to it. I am a physical only gamer and I use my PS4 more because of how much easier it is for storage. I love that I can hook up my 5TB external hard drive and press. I know that I could do that with my PS5 for my PS4 storage, but right now it is just easier to insert the disc in the system that is already set up and still runs the games. I only wish that the PS5 storage was a little more easy and less costly. Would love to be able to setup a solid state external hard drive and press. Would buy more PS5 games and not stress the storage of my PS4 games on this system as well.
Yup, still using my PS4 Pro. Playing GoW, FF7RE, Ghost of Tsushima, Spiderman, Witcher 3 and Dragon's Crown Pro... All runs well and still looks and sounds great... Not really looking forward to PS5 games yet, maybe Black Myth will change my mind.

I bought a Series X, but I still own my One X as well. One X is still an amazing Console even seven years later. Games running in Performance Mode on One X are nearly identical to the Series S version (1080p60~1440p60). Games running in Fidelity/Resolution Mode on One X are nearly identical to the Series X but at 4K30 instead of 4K60.

Gamepass has no future because who ever selecting the games is horrible at it and they're not making new good games that are valuable enough to pay for game pass most of Xbox first party titles suck.
Consumers are the reason cross-gen games are still around. They don’t want to upgrade, but still want shiny, new games, so these companies keep producing for old hardware to keep money flowing in.
Cross-gen games limit scope and dampen production values for larger projects, yet people complain about the previous generation still needing high performance/quality games in 2024, while simultaneously complaining that this generation doesn’t push games far enough.
Make it make sense.
Someone made this comment that with the impending Switch 2 console release... could legitimize keeping Xbox One/PS4 ports viable for a long time, as that is the closest power equivalent between ports.
I think publishers would be okay with holding back a generation in terms of power and graphics, since game budgets have gotten seriously out of control. We'll probably only see an occasional game, like GTA6, that requires a PS5/Pro to run. But yeah, I think we'll just see more of the same types of games and graphics so they can be ported to the Switch 2 and PS4/Pro.

I find myself playing more PS4 games on my PS5. That should say a lot about how this generation is going so far.
As far as the PS5 is concerned, there are gust no games I'm really interested in. The most attracting game I've seen that I haven't already played on PS4/PC is the astrobot playroom game. I'm simply not swayed by multiplayer/online games because there is no guarantee it will still work by the time I will get around to them.
Final Fantasy XVI is my favorite PS5 game so far. Rebirth was great too but I have problems with its final chapter
I just clocked Final Fantasy VII Rebirth which took me 100 hours to beat everything and now am replaying Remake intergrade again on PS5 and noticed Rebirth looks visually inferior to Remake which looks like next gen game and rebirth looks graphically like a PS3 early PS4 game, I'm not one to nitpick too much about graphics but Rebirth looks rough in some places.
It’s a much more demanding game with the open world so not really surprising. Remake looks much better on PS5 and PC. I’d imagine that Rebirth will look better on PC and PS5 pro, as well.
@@makasete30 Yes definitely, I don't know why Square Enix went for an open world game with Rebirth compared to Remake more tight campaign with better textures and less popin, hopefully PS5 Pro will give it a visual upgrade over base PS5 but hopefully for the next game in the series they iron out the visuals.
