Thanks for the video. A great souvenir. I like the transition from raw to processed. Will need to looking at my photos more carefully. Cheers to you and Robin.
@@BarnabyGeorge thanks. This is why I’m primarily doing it, I want to create a record of my photography trips. I’m currently watching Tom & Simons last live recording where they talk about shooting local. For some time I’ve wanted to photo places like the Lake District more, but it’s a fair trip from Southampton, I’ve always been relatively uninspired by the New Forest from a photographic perspective, but a while ago, I thought that I’ve been unfair to the New Forest because I’ve not explored much of it, so I decided to get out and explore more of it because it is relatively on my door step….and this is what Simon & Tom (& Nick Carver) have been commenting on, embrace the local. So this is what I’m trying to do, and by keeping a video record of the trips it will help me remember where I’ve been and where else to explore.
@@StephenBrooks-e9m ….i’m 70% Landscape, but, wildlife interests me too. My Bolderwood video was my second visit to that place. The first one I got a nice Stage, but the second visit was thin pickings, just got a doe in the mist. My 20241111 video has some bird images in it I think. I would like to try shooting more wildlife for sure. Where are you based? Where do you go to shoot your wildlife images?
@@StephenBrooks-e9m now that is something I’ve only tried once before & that was only because there was a great opportunity while I was out doing Landscape photography a few years back.
Great to see you and the 617 crew out in the New Forest. Pity the mist didn’t turn up but you found some great looking trees and made fab pictures. 👍 (Nice Labyrinth reference in the bog! 😎)
@lightinthemeadow …..ah, you spotted the Labyrinth reference 😂, that stuck in my head since I first watched, many years ago, I use it quite often! It has been great getting out with other members of the 617, hope to continue and to many more.
@lightinthemeadow 🤣. In the video I uploaded last night, there were some very boggy areas, at times, I was having to be careful about water getting into my wellies, it was that bad. I’m rapidly coming to the conclusion that one of my most valuable photographic accessories are my wellies! They are just permitting me exploring areas where I would not even go in my walking boots, they do give you surprising freedom to not having to worry too much about where you are going. My wife bought me my wellies a few years ago, so I didn’t have an excuse not to go with her on dog walks in the autumn/winter when it gets really muddy, but I’ve found them so useful for photography out in the New Forest, the pair I have (Grubs, think they are the Frostline model I have) are surprisingly comfy & warm for me, which was pretty unexpected….first wellies I’ve had since I was a kid I think, and my prior experience was that they were relatively cold and uncomfortable things.
@@TheLDunn1 For years I persisted with walking boots and gaiters as being the “proper” footwear. It was having kids that changed things - there was no longer any time to faff with footwear - just needed something that was quick on and off, and fairly maintenance free. Now I am complete convert to wellies and it has to be something pretty extreme to get me in to walking boots. Wellies are especially good on beaches, in streams, bogs, etc. I have upgraded to a pair with proper vibram soles after some sketchy moments on rocks by the sea. I agree, wellies are probably the most essential items after the camera and lens. 😀
@@StephenBrooks-e9m so what wildlife do you typically shoot? I go to Dorset a fair bit, Weymouth / Portland area, my wife’s parents live there. I will probably come down to Devon next year some time, for photography.
@ I’m very keen on song birds. But Exmoor ponies are a great subject especially with the foals. I often give mounted prints to The moorland Mousie trust to help raise funds for the care of the Exmoor pony.

@ that’s the shot I was talking about. I was driving home after the mornings photo shoot, I’ve seen the dead twisted bushes on the way home from a prior photo trip out and thought there was a shot there, and as I was driving home, I looked at this area and there were a few horses in the dead bushes, so I quickly pulled over, reversed up and just left my vehicle on the grass verge at the side of the road. Grabbed my camera and ran back further, and worked my way through the dead bushes to reach the ponies in it, and then moved around to try and frame the scene. It was a very opportunistic shot.
A good video Lawrence and some nice captures. Your comment about the "fog that was promised" reminds me of when I made a similar comment to a colleague who pointed out that the forecast is an estimate, not a guarantee 😊 Still raises my hopes and expectations though, every time!
@@stuartvh4562 thanks Stuart, yes, we fully expected mist at least, but it didn’t happen where we were, but I heard from a friend & now fellow 617 club member that there was mist in a different location of the New Forest on that morning, but he was not out doing photography, just travelling through. And was not at a venue where I could really make use of it!…..there must be a ‘law’ about this sort of thing 😂
@@russhawker1718 it was nice to get out, meet up & go for a walk in the New Forest, but sadly there was no mist or fog, no sunrise due to the blanket of cloud, and the light was flat & bland, so I think we all struggled a little on the photography side due to the conditions.
