Those tires make the bike imo!!! One of your nicest looking builds for sure. Personalizing your bike when you can afford it here and there is one of my favourite aspects of bike culture.
Next, remember that manufacturers add a lot of extra carbon, so I recommend drilling some 1/4" holes every 3/4" of the downtube. Also, fill the tires with hydrogen instead of air. Also, sealant is lighter than tire rubber, so add a 1/16" drilled hole in the center of each tire knob and let the sealant patch it. Then, tune your spoke count. Start removing spokes until the wheels start to warp, and then add back the last one you removed. Now it's perfect for your riding. Oh, and stickers are pretty heavy. Get rid of those.
That’s been a sweet build to watch it come together. I’m mixed on the tan wall tires too. Would be cool if you did an update video on living in Bentonville, the wife and I want to move there next year.
The bike looks great! I had the same experience upgrading a fuel ex (new fork, coil, drivetrain, brakes....) and even though at parks its a blast, riding local trails isn't the greatest. Ill probbaly end up doing something like this lol. Great video!
Whenever someone says "but what's left of the original bike?" I just have to say this: making a bike TRULY yours is one of the most special things you can do if you're really interested on the sport, my Demo 8 only has the cranks, seat, seatpost, wheels and derrailleur left, the forks are still there but not for long since i'm buyng a Marzocchi with Fox internals from a friend to swap to coil for that maximum response. I did also swap the seatpost for a dropper but a un-replaced trail side fix ended up breaking the action of the dropper, wich turned out to not be for sale anywhere at all so it's just a paper weight now
“I’m going to be adding some gold accents today”…10 seconds later, “I’m not sold on this gold chain, I may order a black one” 😂. Dude, Your bike looks so good, I love this channel!
That's good to hear that they look better over time. I feel like all Roscoes look better with tan walls. I think Trek is set to release a new Roscoe model soon (pure speculation). If they do, I'll probably get one
Just figured I'd throw this out here. The original unsealed bearing is not broken or bad. Had this happen to my V3 Bronson too. Simply greasing the bearings makes it spin soooo smooth. Good Video keep up the good work!
Really fun series! Also, having seen this bike in other YT reviews, knowing how you customized it and made it your own, was really interesting and inspiring. Thanks!
That tan schwalbe tires look great. I'm a Schwalbe guy and the Hans Dampf is more of a front Enduro tire. For the rear, you should put on a Wick Will or Nobby Nic for better rolling ristance. Wicked Wills roll faster. In my trail bike i have wicked will rear, nobby nic in the front. My opinion is the best trail bike combo.
Schwalbe user over here from the UK. I've only ever ran Schwalbes on my bike for the past 10 years, with the Dampf being a very good compromise on all conditions. It's a bit crap in the slidy, rooty slop over the the Forest of Dean winter, but bike park, they're ace. I stupidly made the mistake of running my rear as a bronze and front as a tan wall. The tan wall will match your Santa Cruz downtube logo that bit better. Although, for heavier natural steep stuff, I run double magic mary's or a mary front and big betty rear - DH casing (because it's better than running inserts).
@@EvansMTBSaga love it! I put a dual crown Dorado on my enduro bike recently and it did perform really well downhill but I didn't like the weight and took it off :)
Hey Evan! Remember me? The guy who'd want to steal your bike? Just kidding. 😂 I love how much love you are giving your murder machine. Really enjoy your vids dude, thanks for the info and entertainment. 🙂
Red line of your tires belong to the left side, brake disc. Hans Dampf is one of the best trail tires you can buy. Schwalbe is a traditional German tire manufacturer and offers really serious products. The colour of the line also indicates the softness of the compound. I recommend to ride soft at the front and trail on the rear.
tip with the hans dampf is because it dosent have a directional tread, once you wear it down one side, you can flip it and get a few more rides with it
You'll be shaving your legs soon and wearing lycra.... and hanging out and arguing on the Weight Weenie forums 😆 Amazing vid as always, that Bronson is looking good!
The tan walls look good! You should do a Transition bike build next. They just released a few new models so you can get the previous version cheap. A Smuggler would be a cool build at 140/130mm.
Would LOVE to see you build up a Mullet Cycles Peacemaker. Those bikes look like nothing else, have needle bearings in the pivot, can clear a 3.0 tires, a 38t chainring and can run a 200mm dropper post slammed all the way down. Their wheelsets even run schrader tubeless valves! My buddy has one and I've ridden it a couple times, I put up PR's that I can't crack on my Bronson. Definitely my next bike if my Bronson ever sells on pinkbike, but it'd be super rad to see a Peacemaker on your channel for your honest opinion!! Killer video btw 😎
Hey Evan, nice story. Regarding the KMC vs SRAM chains, even though I'm more of a Shimano guy, I have to admit that the high-end SRAM chains (like the PC-XX1) are much better than the high-end KMC chains. I had both (aside from many XTRs) and while the KMC broke two times in less than 1 year, the SRAM lasted 5 years without any issue.
Hey, i have a question, i wax my chain and because of that i need to wipe of the chain before i put it on. At first i used old underwear but im starting to run out and im affraid that using a towel or reuseable microfiber towel is going to damage my washinmachine when it needs to be cleaned. Do you have any tips?
nice, I threw the same cranks on my new Nomad build, but swapped to a 34 tooth. With the 32 I never use the big gear in the back, it's just way too easy. the 34 is perfect for my trail cadence. I went with the 210mm 1up, but might have to use the little shim thing to drop it's drop by 10 or maybe even 20mm as I get a little hip shifting while pedalling with it at the top. I went with Hope wheelset fortus30 rear, 35front, pro5 hubs, analog X01 derailer/shifter, rainbow XX1 Casstte and chain, factory 38's, Crankbro Mallet 11's, 1up bar/stem, guide/guard, mud hugger fender (has the lower piece that keeps muck/water off the lower linage, is fantastic) Michelin DH22 front, Nobby Nic rear, and Hayes Dominion A4's, and 95% ridewrap to top it off. She is a beast of a bike, yet easily setup stiff to get good XC riding and keep up with my XC buds. I still can't believe I own it lol Dream bike for sure. Definitely get it ride wrapped, and the Mallet 11 pedals would look dope on your Bronson ;) Black and gold. Cheers to you man
Agreed tan tires been was hesitant about them especially the Nobby Nic, definitely agree that on our bikes paint chips off very easily, upgrading the San Quentin 2 possibly sell it in the near future, and buy a steel hardtail to be my final hardtail afterwards full-suspension. Tan/skin-wall tires are stylish. But I think Onza made it the best-looking on their tires. The light area is like more thin, more contrast and the logo placing is way better than Schwalbe or Maxxis do. And those are honestly the grippiest tires I’ve ridden, the Aquila and Ibex are beast-level stuff. P. S. “Swiss made” adds +10 cool-points
Beautiful bike! Just wanted to mention that I built up a carbon gravel bike a few years ago and I wanted to use a dropper that I had got a great deal on. The only problem was that it was 30.9 dia. and the seat tube of my frame was 31.6. No problem I thought I’ll just buy a shim. Agreed.
Tan wall is great. But not all bike color goes well with it though
I only like them on white bikes.
Evan don't forget to put this video on the playlist for the Bronson
