that softlock looks awfully familiar...
Once, I softlocked my pinkie in one of the holes of a device called a Safe-T Compass (it helps you draw circles). It has a component similar to that used in the old Spirograph drawing tool. Took me several troll levels (read: a while) to get my pinkie loose.

12:20 when you're picking up a red coin, there's a few frames while it's doing the spinning pickup animation that it counts as an entity. Mario maker can only have 100 entities loaded at once, and if there was 99 entities loaded, when you pick up the red coin it turns to 100 entities loaded, so when you hit the question mark block Mario Maker can't load the spike ball.
I was about to comment the very condensed version of that but good for you

Softlocking in real life is easy. Go to a remote location, fall into some kind of pit that won’t kill you, but you can’t climb out of. Eventually you will die, but at first it is a softlock.

I once was playing hide and seek and had squeezed myself into the top shelf of a closet. When the seeker came to the closet, he did not see me; People rarely look up. He then proceeded to shut the closet door, having satisfactorily checked the closet, trapping me inside. Once time was up they had to rescue me.
