I remember watching The Price Is Right with my grandfather back in January, 1977 when I was staying with him in Arizona (I'm from Chicago, IL). I recall catching the games Cliffhangers and Hurdles.I believe that Hurdles was retired because of the hurdles not coming up properly as what happened in this episode.
Hurdles was retired for not working right. If they removed the motors and made it all hand-operated (like they did to Squeeze Play, Cliff Hangers, Range Game, Etc.), it could've made it another 10 years at the least.
@@georgef551 Yeah, I can see the problem with the third one. Would've been funny if it had been a loss. But they could bring this back. I consider the runner a relative of the mountain climber from Cliff Hangers.
27:00 Hurdles? That is a game I do not remember at all. I imagine they got rid of it at some point, up to 1986 when I first saw the show, due to the gun?

They retired Poker Game because of the necessity for three-digit prices, though. Unless they allow for four digit prizes and play like you would a dollar bill, you could do it.
***** Never. The prize plugs would have taken longer, and the game would have been more confusing. It was either add to the confusion or get rid of the game all together.
I love watching these old episodes of ongoing game shows. It gives a sense of continuity.
I remember as a kid sitting and watching the Price is Right everyday with my Great-Grandfather.
My mother and I used to watch it back in 90's when I had no school. Now I watch it during my first break on my job.
I watched it with my great great great great great grand son.
@@fjccommish how old are you? 150?
Bob was an expert at working the audience and the contestants.
Yes!
He worked Janice pretty good too ;) He's my hero.
NIC FEL I believe that was Diane which was even better.
@@jeffwolf4774 That's spelled Dian (but not Diane) Parkinson (née Dianna Lynn Batts).
That old phone was really cool!! I liked the horse guy!!
RIP BOB BARKER that hosted this game show on television.
Staying home from school sick watching this was the thing to do

What city in Arizona? Phoenix? Tucson? Maricopa?
Christopher Howell my grandparents lived in Phoenix, and later moved to Scottsdale and then Tempe where my aunt still lives today.
KOOL-TV Channel 10, the then-CBS affiliate (now Fox O&O station KSAZ-TV) carried TPIR, I presume.

Same with my older sister.
Hurdles was cool. It never should have retired.
@aDg 2k18 I thought the girls go behind and move it
Mechanical issues and use of the cap gun caused the retirement.
+Vahan Nisanian I agree. Bring Hurdles back,TPIR!!!

1983, and the problem wasn't the pistol. It was mechanical problems.
TPIR is an 11 am tradition
Unlike Drew, Bob didn't even show her the price for that Pontiac Sunbird.
I just started 3rd grade the day before 😢

Lol, talking horses.
Poor Bob lost his concentration cause of the horse guy
This is a game that could be played with an electronic board. They brought back Time is Money, so they will bring back a retired game.
Time is Money was a retired game? I don't remember seeing it in classic shows...
***** The original Time is Money was around in 2003-04.

The original Bullseye from '72 sucked more than any other game in TPIR history. No other game will ever top its treachery.
