Alkan quoting Mozart's Jupiter Symhpony and other parts of the Concerto in the cadenza is just pure Genius just like what he did with Beethoven's Piano Concerto 3
@@klop4228I think Alkan here is not trying to fit in the context at all, as he knows that it would only be an imitation coming almost 100 years later. In my opinion he's just being provocative and I love that
@@ferru4003 that's not what I mean. It's not the cadenza overall that doesn't fit, it's the material from other pieces, removed from their own context and placed here in a way that just doesn't work. Maybe if this concerto were performed in concert after the Jupiter symphony and so on, it'd work really well. But who'd programme a concert like that? :P
His technique is of course flawless, but what impresses me most is the precision of his pedaling. Despite the complex voicings due to orchestra + piano transcription, everything remains perfectly crystal clear as should be in Mozart. This is an incredible performance.

I admire Charles Henri Valentin Morhange Alkan. I have not heard this utterly mind-blowing transcription before. What a genius he was and his works live on to prove it. But not enough attention is paid to this master. He is up there with Liszt when it comes to "imagination". Thank you so very much for posting this revelatory recording. I am going to search for more!
Love the fact he still left the cadences in his own style, but they actually fit in the context. Not to be forgotten, Alkan himself also wrote a "Concerto pour piano seul" (Etudes Op.39, nn.8-10), thus he was yet familiar with this kind of operations.
I really like the fact that Wee goes G-G#-G#, as intended by Mozart, instead of the A-G#-G# written by Alkan in the RH at 2:05. I don't know what was Alkan trying to achieve by changing that little detail.
Such beautiful voicings on those orchestral textures! This transcription and performance really do great justice to the original work, even if the cadenza is probably the most bombastic I've ever heard, lol.
gosh! the first two mins twenty (roughly) i Love the orchestral opening to this concerto, a lot.. done Really well here just on the piano.. thankyou for sharing this 🙂 now for the rest..
Incredible... You can tell Paul Wee is an amazing musician and interpret of Mozart at the core. The comments have said it all but does anybody know if Alkan's cadenzas have ever been played as part of a performance of the concerto with orchestra?
Hard to imagine a better transcription of this work. I really didn’t miss the orchestra, which says a lot when you consider Mozart’s incredible orchestration. Fantastic performance from Paul Wee too. I’d never heard of him and apparently he’s a fellow Australian!

Totally didn't expect that. Can't imagine if Mozart himself heard this cadenza in a concert.
I dunno, I find it kind of cheap. Just rips the original from its context and fails to fit it into this one.
@@skylarlimex Even Beethoven's cadenza could probably surprise him a lot I guess! 😂

I still don't understand why Alkan was so underrated and very much less known than others
Because he is just a mephisto: enhanced edition

Such a great recording of this transcription. I hope Paul Wee records more Alkan!

YES YES YES YES!!!!!! I have been anticipating this one for a very long time
Absolutely lovely. Truly joyous to watch the notes and listen at the same time.
Sencillamente genial.

an insane cadenza🎉

Alkan really had it all. I didnt even know these thibgs existed.
Love this
Is it really playable..?

Bravo Alkan!
Wow fantastic i just played it to my friends thanks very much

Very interesting
Wow that sounds amazing!!
Do you have the notes for this?
Sounds like Beethoven's 158th piano sonata in WTF minor
The cadenza is grotesque but the arrangement is excellent.
Fantastic. Thank you. Confirms my belief that Mozart is the most underrated genius ever.
...underrated?
Mozart underrated? Really?!
I would rather say Alkan is underrated
Underrated. Yes. Because no matter how high you rate Mozart it can never be high enough.

Alkan the best friend of Chopin and archenemy of Liszt we should know more about his art and technique
Alkan and Liszt were friends, NOT archenemies. Where did you get that idea?
Where can i get the sheet music - google hasnt shown me anything. Do you have a place i can buy this? Thanks!!
