  • Based on Ricky Jay's book of the same title, this special was made up of a combination of magic, juggling, amazing feats, stunts, and performances, including a musical performance on wine glasses, a human calculator who could determine cube-routes of numbers in her head, and an antique acrobatic clockwork doll. Got some nice vintage commercials here, before TV got overrun by the pharmaceutical industry. Thanks for keeping them in.

    Just wanted to say thank you for sharing this rare piece of film! It is so difficult to find many of Ricky Jay's televised specials and performances, although his new documentary in select theaters does contain some others.

      Fairly unceremonious announcement. Yes, RJ passed. Or disappeared into the ether in a monumental Poof. Great vid and thanks for the tribute and memories OP.

    I had his book by the same title and it was destroyed in a flood! Have to get it again! Besides, altho Rick is cool, Ripley from Ripley's Believe It or Not did the same thing. But he was no magician. Fortean Times is a journal that records a lot of stuff like this.

      +HhappyBirthday That's the year it came out on home video. The movie was released in theaters in 1990. And it's a real stinker (as if you couldn't already tell that from the commercial).

    That strong woman shit is a bunch of BS suggestion.

    • @sfdntk
      @sfdntk 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nothing to do with suggestion, it's just physics. For example, the lifting trick is accomplished just by standing slightly further away the second time, which moves the centre of gravity and makes it physically impossible for him to lift her off the ground no matter how strong he is. It's a very common carny trick, you also see it when grifters sell those moronic copper bracelets that are supposed to balance your Xi or whatever nonsense they're peddling that day.
