Not fun fact about this movies story:
Antonio Banderas had a heart attack 6 years ago, and a sequel almost never happened because of it.
If the story feels more emotional and personal, it's because it is.

I prefer Perrito over Donkey because of one reason and one reason only:
Puss makes it clear when he's not helping, and he SHUTS UP. He doesn't keep talking or forcing him to talk. He's gentle, and when Puss is having a panic attack, he doesn't try and snap him out of it, he just sits there and just lets Puss know he's there.
Because THAT'S the best thing you can do in that scenario. Just keep quiet unless asked, and be there.

    • @sparrowskeleton1831
      @sparrowskeleton1831 ปีที่แล้ว +60

To be fair to Donkey, he does have his quiet moments (at least quiet for him.) I remember in the first movie he sat with Dragon after he fought with Shrek.
But, I agree that Perrito can read the room better than Donkey.

    • @EChacon

Perrito is easily the highlight of the film as he’s so optimistic and positive and always wants to be by his friends.
Literally I never understand the folks before and after the film came out why they consider Perrito annoying, he’s just a positive happy go lucky therapy dog, and If I see Perrito I would definitely take him in as my pet dog.

11:05 "nice touch, when his eyes were, like, glowing" actually, he has coins on his eyes. Which is a reference to death in many cultures: you put coins on the eye of the deceived, in order to pay passage to his resting place, like to Charon in ancient Greek mythology for example. The coins he splattered on the ground with no care in the world. That's a clever way to give us a clue about who the big bad wolf really is.

The fun thing is that everyone kinda got their wish despite not making one.
    - Goldie wanted a family, and she learned she already had one.
    - Kitty wanted someone she could trust, and she met one.
    - Puss wanted his lives back, and he got one that was worth eight more.
    - Wolf wanted to see an arrogant, death-defying prick die. And he did.
Purrito didn't really have a wish, but one could argue that attaining comradery was a wish he didn't know he wanted. Jack didn't really get his wish (unless you consider magic coarsing through his body and killing him), but that makes sense since he's, as Jimminy puts it, an irredeemable monster.
This movie is a fucking masterpiece.

I love that they made the annoying comic relief supporting character in the form of Perrito actually work instead of just having him be an annoying comic relief side character that didn't need to be in the movie. I especially love that they played it straight when Puss had his panic attack and didn't have Perrito go "Quick! Puss! You gotta rub my belly! No, not that way, the right way!" which if it was any other movie, you know they would have done, and it would instantaneously deflate the importance of that scene. But no, they didn't do that, they had him do what therapy dogs do for someone who suffers panic attacks by having him rest his head on him and provide a source of warmth and comfort that is often hard to come by during those situations.
Also I don't think Death so much had a lesson to teach but more he holds Life Sacred and hates how Puss wasted 8 of them, getting killed in the most frivolous manner in each one (Puss literally kept eating shellfish he was allergic so Death is right to believe Puss does not care about his lives at all), and he just wanted to speed up the process already like "You're gonna die a boring death anyway, so may as well make this quick!" but as we saw through the movie he loves to play with his food, but when Puss came to appreciate his life Death was actually annoyed that Puss wasn't an "Arrogant little legend who thought he was immortal" but someone who had become more humble and doesn't think they're immortal anymore so it just didn't seem all that appealing to him. Plus he does say that he'll get him eventually - he might not be unbeatable, but he's also unavoidable.

What makes _Puss in Boots: The Last Wish_ better than the first film and joining alongside other sequels like _The Empire Strikes Back, The Dark Knight, Top Gun: Maverick, The Godfather: Part II, Spider-Man 2_ and _Shrek 2_ is that it gave Puss a sense of realization on trying to appreciate life instead of just trying to be the eccentric daredevil legend he is and also the main reason on why he wants the wish to regain his nine lives while at the same time avoiding death. But without a doubt the highlight of the film wasn’t the story, or it’s voice acting from the cast (Antonio Banderas, Harvey Guillén, Salma Hayak, Florence Pugh, Ray Winstone, Olivia Colman, John Mulaney and Wagner Moura) but the animation as compared to the first Puss in Boots film gives off a 2D cel shaded look very reminiscent to the visuals seen in _Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse_ and _Arcane_ especially the former as the filmmaker for this film cite Spider-Verse for the visuals in _The Last Wish_ especially during the fight scenes where the animation is drawn in twos.
Also Death (aka The Wolf/Lobo) is without a doubt one of DreamWorks best but also terrifying antagonists in years and Wagner Moura, a Brazilian actor who is best known Pablo Escobar in _Narcos_ really knocks it out of the park. Interestingly despite his actions he does to Puss Death is by no means a villain as he has a sense of honor and nobility, along with being a force of nature, as his main reason for pursuing Puss in the first place was to punish him for arrogantly squandering his eight lives with reckless abandon, and Puss mocking him with the “Laughs in the Face of Death” quote concluding from this that it would be best to kill him before he wasted his final life. 🐺🐺
Another thing to note is that before Puss in Boots meets him at the bar, Death appears in a blink-and-you-miss moment when Puss was battling the Giant where he was in a slight dark corner and compared to the Crowd he was not cheering for Puss but watching him to see if he gets killed and hints of him of his wolf head and sickles were also seen on the edges of Puss' death card numbers. Even worth mentioning is that when Puss was having his 9th glass of Leche (representing his 9th and final life) at the bar he has 8 empty glasses representing the 8 lives Puss has lost.
Finally, Death's quote in Spanish when he was furious by Puss after he upstaged him once Puss learns his lesson to value his last life: _"¿POR QUE DIABLOS FUI A JUGAR CON MI COMIDA?!?"_ translates to _"WHY THE HELL DID I PLAY WITH MY FOOD?!?"_ in English.

There was a film in 2011 called "Puss in Boots" that served as a prequel to "Shrek 2." So this film happens AFTER "Forever After." And the fact that Puss, Kitty, and Perrito are sailing off to Far Far Away indicates that there will be ANOTHER Shrek movie. Funny that Sophia says Big Jack Horner reminds her of Kingpin in "Into the Spider-Verse" because John Mulaney (Big Jack Horner) is the voice of Peter Porker (Spider Pig) in "Into the Spider Verse."

Technically Goldi is an antagonist too, not a villain per se, but her efforts do get in the way of our heroes which makes her an antagonist. What makes all three antagonists work is exactly what you said - there's enough time dedicated to each of their purposes in the story. Jack Horner - pure evil villain, Death - unstoppable force, and Goldi - a sympathetic antagonist that redeems herself

Death is one of if not the best DreamWorks antagonist ever. His whistle still sends shivers up my spine. I like how, at the start, Puss was bragging about having "never been touched by a blade." So the moment Death was actually able to cut him, Puss became a scared, anxious mess. It's the moment he realized that he's not invincible after all. Another character I really love in this movie is Perrito. His backstory is so horrible and sad, yet he still has so much optimism, appreciates all the good things in life, and just wants to help people. He's a perfect foil to Puss and Kitty, and he helps them both overcome their problems. We could all learn a thing or two from Perrito.

I prefer Puss' design in this film over his original 3D design from the Shrek films and his film. If the next Shrek film is made, will the director revert to the original animation style, or would Dreamworks allow them to use this style? Because the studio typically has the final word, who knows if they'd approve of seeing Shrek and the others get this new look.

I think the scene with the “reflective” eyes is a nod to the “ferryman” which is basically death in a lot of European folk lore. He transports the souls of the dead on a boat to the after life. When people would die, they would put coins on their eyes which were to be used to pay the “ferryman” to travel. If you didn’t have the money, you would spend your after life in purgatory.

Glad you watched this, Sophia! Because this one deserved all the love that it got! DreamWorks deserves more love in general! I'm glad that Puss in Boots Lash Wish and Illumination's new Super Mario movie dethroned Disney and now the smaller companies are getting a chance to show the people what they're made of! Seriously, Puss in Boots Last Wish deserved to win at the box office! It had incredible message that not a lot of media does, amazing animation, good humor, and even the subplot with Goldilocks was good too. I think the biggest thing that struck me was Puss wanting so bad to avoid death but couldn't, and also the panic attack scene with Perrito comforting him. I think Perrito deserved so much better tbh! They really outdid themselves with this movie (as they do most of the time)
Also, if you want some other DreamWorks recommendations, I'm here! I recommend Chicken Run, Trolls, and both Kung Fu Panda movies. They do get kind of dark, but they're beautiful just like this movie! I will add Puss in boots to the list of being one of my favorite DreamWorks movies. I also like the Croods 2 New Age but it's a bit more family friendly. I think the first Croods was too sad.

11:09 actually he was putting coins over his eyes. It is a reference as to how Ancient Greeks buried the dead (specialized funerary practice) with coins over their eyes so they would have money for passage to the Underworld.

  • @danielmunoz1275

    Perro Muerto : Dead Dog
Los voy a hacer alfombras de baño : I'm going to make you bath carpets
Corre, corre gatito : Run, run little cat
    Gracias : Thank you
ay, que miedo : That's scary
Hablas Español? : Do you speak Spanish?
No hablo ingles : I don't speak English
Mi casa es su casa : My house is your house (literal) / Make yourself at home (figurative meaning).
Por que fui a jugar con mi comida?! : Why did I had to play with my food?!
These are the translations (made by me) of the major instances the characters spoke Spanish.
I don't know if you'll watch the first Puss in Boots movie on your own or in another video, but here's a little insight on Kitty Soft Paws: She has trust problems due to her previously having owners that declawed her. Kitty wonders whether she played too rough with the hamster or scratched the curtains, but the point is that she trusted her owners and they basically mutilated her. Also, as a cat owner I do not agree with declawing them. I believe pets should be appropriately trained to make a living with them at home, if anyone is resorting to physically change their pet or abuses them simply shouldn't have pets at all.

I always hear people saying that was what Death wanted to hear. No, he was hoping that Puss would still be on that high horse of his so that Death could cut him down to prove him wrong.
What he said after the stare down was "Why the hell did I play with my food".
If I am wrong please let me know but that was my take on it.

I'd call Death an antagonist instead of a villain. I know a lot of people use them as the same word but Jack was more of a villain while Death progressed the story, he was the reason for the story as well. Was Puss trying to "escape" Death. Best way i'd put it is that death (the act of dying) isn't an "evil" thing it comes for us all. Death here wasn't even a villain either, he did go out of his role some but he essentially took it as an insult & disrespectful of how Puss treated life which in turn is a message for us the viewers. Jack Horner on the other hand is a villain which was the role of Jiminy Cricket was to essentially be the viewers say "Man Jack is just a terrible person". Once Death realized Puss has found some respect for life & also Death (the act & the being). Death backed off left Puss live his last life.

11:19 Hermione's bag capacity was because of a Spell, Adduco Maxima, which also the Weasley used at the quidditch world Cup on their curtain . Jack Horner's bag belonged to Mary Poppins, which there is a theory that says that Mary Poppins was a witch graduated at Hogwarts, which that means she might use the same Spell on her bag

There’s one other movie (a prequel), a short film, and a netflix show (which is a prequel to the first movie). The first movie is okay, worth a watch
You can spot Death watching Puss when he fights the giant. In the shadows among the crowd when they do the wave. He’s also in the corners of the death cards
“No way that woman was getting attracted to this cat.” Watch the first movie and the teaser for it where he struts to *I Know You Want Me* 😂
You’re lucky they actually showed the Spanish words instead of just (Speaking in Spanish/Spanish dialogue) like they were before. Guess they saw the complaints, I just wish that was the case for the physical copies! I’m stuck with that!
Ignore if you looked it up afterwards. The Wolf said “Run run, little cat.” Correct, “Dead Dog.” Kitty said “I’m gonna make you into bathroom rugs”
They did that gravity defying dance in the first movie too 😂
