In a live performance the notion of capturing the crowd's attention and interest, and to have them following your every motion by the end is what winning the crowd is about. This girl is good. There are many, many kick ass drummers (most of them pro) who can play way more interesting and complex fills. The sound tech deserves a round of applause for making those basic fills in the solo sound larger than life! Then again, drum solos and larger than life drummers are soooo demode!
I think visiting some archive videos of Greg Lake, Buddy. Rich, Gene Krupa, Steve Gadd and others would help with the creativity necessary for performing at this level.
I’ve had many paying gigs. I’ve had many not paying gigs. Obviously I’ve never had as much exposure as shania Twain’s drummer, but as a drummer I’ve never sold myself out or played less than I was capable of. I play heavy ass metal as my first and go to style of music, but even if I play something softer I try to add more pizazz or ghost snares and high hats or just triple the count of what’s being done. I try to challenge myself to be better or at least to play something that I have to focus and think about and not just bullshit doofus my way through. It has nothing to do with money or exposure. It has to do with the craft and being better and better and better than before and at least trying to challenge urself. She’s not bad at all and I’m not bad mouthing her in the least bit. I’m just saying as that high profile of a drummer I expected a lot lot more. Especially for the price it costs to see them.
@@7861jbiz i think what you misunderstand is at the end of the day, playing to the song is way more important than showcasing your skills...this drummer is not there to show the crowd all they can do, they are there to play the drums for shania's songs. shania is out front, in the spotlight, it's her gig. i've seen quite a handful of musicians kicked off gigs over the years for overplaying, trying to spotlight themselves. i've seen even more show up to audition for gigs or studio work and not get the work because instead of being ringo, they tried to be danny carey...this is pop music. it does not need ghost snares and triple counts. it needs a drummer to hold down the back end with a good bass player and stay out of the way. i've seen an interview where this drummer says that due to the incredibly tight schedule of the stage show, every bit of it is on click, and the drum solo was written note for note in rehersals so everybody always knows exactly whats going on, and to make sure that the exact amount of time to the second is filled. showing up to do a job and doing exactly the job that's asked is why these cats have these gigs at this age. they know how to follow instructions.
Never really was a Shania fan, no disrespect meant, she has a great voice and is a very talented performer, just not my genre of music. But I gotta say that she can bang the hell out of the drums! Very impressive! I do believe that I would have no problem buying a ticket to one of her shows. Rock on Shania!! Rock on!!

From a musicians standpoint there’s nothing here that’s that impressive. This solo is almost identical to the one posted from several years ago so I personally don’t see much growth as a drummer. A drum solo is a drummers time to shine so I am kinda surprised that he doesn’t showcase his abilities instead of playing a few notes then standing up for applause; repeatedly.

I did! I beat JD Blair bowling. We were friends in Huntsville Al when he was a drum teacher. This was way before he got his first pro gig with Lyle Lovett. We went to the bowling alley one day at lunch time when he was between students. I forgot what the score was but I beat him and ragged him about it. 😂
All respect I like this person's drumming. Girls and guys do play differently in my opinion and there is a different approach to how girls play and males. This is a male approach and I like their drumming. Its tight.

Well I've attended many live (as supposed to dead) concerts over that past few (like 4) decades and I would only endure the busy & loud crowds for only the top names in the business. When it comes to pro drumming (I'm not on that list) Elijah was very impressive...I love the drums (ok I love all musical instruments)...some may say he is not in the top three best drummers in the world, HOWEVER, it's his charisma, persona, energy and enthusiasm that sparks us into Wowness...I could not keep my eyes off of the blonde bombshell drummer where typically it's the front man that I usually focus on...the end :)

You are sitting at home on your couch, watching a video just to judge somebody that plays a solo which is not good enough in your opinion and even more disgusting mocking people by there heritage, sexuality and lifestyle. When it comes to pro drumming (I'm not on that list) Elijah was very impressive...I love the drums (ok I love all musical instruments)...some may say he is not in the top three best drummers in the world, HOWEVER, it's his charisma, persona, energy and enthusiasm that sparks us into Wowness...I could not keep my eyes off of the blonde bombshell drummer where typically it's the front man that I usually focus on...the end :)

Usually I don't do comments on YT like this but this time I will just to say how disgusted I am by all these ugly comments here. You are sitting at home on your couch, watching a video just to judge somebody that plays a solo which is not good enough in your opinion and even more disgusting mocking people by there heritage, sexuality and lifestyle. You just can't accept that people are different and some of them want to be someone else as they usually were born. Please people. Go get a life. As an arena and world touring drumtech I know how much it takes to get a gig and to run a show like this. They are practicing for weeks and hours to come up with a show like this and some solos are just a fill in gap for the artist changing outfits and killing time. Elijah knows that she don't need to be Bozzio, Colaiuta or Portnoy or whatever drummer you prefer in this case. She's got the gig, she's a solid performing drummer for a world class act and she is very polite and professional to everybody. I am so pissed on what this planet has become. I am out of here. Think about it, if you really want to be that ugly to people forever!
