Can you imagine what it would have been like operating a AVRE unit on a hypothetical Cold War battlefield in Germany? Warsaw Pact troops taking shots at you while Hinds make straffing passes across the muddy field you are attempting to cross. Mortar and other artillery rounds exploding around you spraying mud and shrapnel everywhere. Not an easy day for the Engineers. Now imagine it today: with all those Cold War combat events happening, added to, with drones buzzing around carrying explosives.
J̌I live on the edge of rendlesham forest and have been walking along the fence line of the base and seeing it sitting there for the last few years, and have always thought if you or Mr hewes would be interested in ever getting it working. 😀
Donated. My name's going on it :) A small price to pay for the hours of enjoyment your videos have given me. All the best with the campaign and the project, lads.
Well…. It weights 30ton But rolling on concrete so divide that by 25 so it’s 1.2 ton of force needed to pull it. The ramps are 30 degrees to work out gradient resistance you work out Weight x degrees of slope then divide by 60 So 30 x 30 / 60 = 15ton Adding a safety factor of 25% and adding gradient resistance and rolling resistance you end up with 20.25 ton My winch line is 22mm and rated for 22ton on a single line the overload safety on the AEC militant is set to 15ton On this job we had a 3-1 pull giving us nearly 45ton on the overload switch and 66ton breaking strain. What would you do? Stand a million miles away and not see it fall of the trailer? Always know, understand and trust your gear! But don’t take unnecessary risk today which would take your tomorrow.
Great video, my only concern, having seen a 4 - 1 pull let go is the damage a snapped rope can do!! The fact when winching armour is every one was behind the casualty whilst under tension. Having said that a great recovery job. I look forward to this project. A great video, worth the wait.
Thanks, very interesting. I have never seen a Chieftain AVRE in the metal before (assumedly if Bovington have one it's hidden in the shed of stuff you never see). I am not donating yet but will try and visit the museum in the new year and hope to donate eventually. Pity you couldn't have collected the AVRE with the ANTAR - maybe another recovery or show in the future?

I tried with paypal. No joy yet. I'll try again later.

Well done guys! I feel privileged to of been able to contribute in some small way to getting the Militant ready for the job. 👍
I'm impressed with the truck drivers faith in that cable not snapping.
Me too.

Thanks for the detailed explanation.
Much as I love Mr Hewes Foden, I think I'll have to identify as "Milly!"
What a beauty!
@@bobwilcox1147 best comment yet!!! We would be lost without our milly!!
Super top loading. And a gorgeous new tank to your collection. Can’t wait to watch it’s transformation
Donated, many memories working on AVREs some good some not so good. looking for to seeing her back running.
That was an adventure. Well done.
Nice work. Gday from Australia.
G'day to you, thank you for this, we cant afford to let our history rot away, once again thank you! Armadale West Aust.
I lived there. I expect the hoon marks have increased on every junction.

Thanks for saving tanks great video 👍👍👍
Was it from Campbell Barracks Hohne? There was an AVRE parked on a plinth on the drill square before the camp closed
Donated. Looking forward to seeing it complete. Might be a good idea to ask Mr Hewes to do a shout out on his channel.
Now it’s a thoroughly modern Milly. ✔️
Have you thought of having a channel collaboration with Mr Hewes he tinkers with tanks also. ☘
Did you remove the quillshaft?
Over the years, she’s had engine, gearbox and couplings removed
Warum benutzen sie nicht den LKW zum Schieben von hinten als Unterstützung ?
Just a suggestion, but you should post the link to the gofundme fund raiser link on your main website as well!

It’s an AVLB. Armoured Vehicle Launching Bridge….
No it’s an AVRE 😂😂
Did you see any flying saucers while you were there?
Unlikely , Rendlesham forest is approx 5-6 miles north-east, up by Bentwaters. 👽
Yea! That’s a cry from the past!
Welcome back. Did you have to hand over shekels or did the MOD do the decent thing?
Have a word with tanksalot nick Mead......plenty of spares..
