Really enjoying you rendition of the PCT! Pretty much convinced me to start my adventure this year with a section hike from Campo to Julian! My Daughter wants to come!
Another massive milestone, congratulations!!! Sam gets to the top of the pass and Moriah shouts YIPPEE!!! Then you walk 20 miles in the snow. I wonder what the nay sayers are saying now? You two are pure machines at this. Nothing seems to great or too far. What a Team. Brilliant vlog, best one yet. Thanks for taking us along for the ride...... Sam & Moriah 'don't listen to the hype, or listen to it, whatever' mic drop.🎤 Made me laugh out loud. Brilliant.
I grew up near the Gifford Pinchot national forest. Silent T so sounds like Pinch O. Lol. But what a great adventure. Those privies are onion valley campground are actually nice. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
Hiking the JMT or PCT through the Sierra without any knowledge of the history is missing out on some of the richness of the journey. Mather, Muir and Pinchot, in particular. Muir would roll over in his grave if he knew a pass in the Sierra was named after Pinchot, who was more responsible than any man for the drowning of the Hetch Hetchy, the heartbreak over which, many believe killed Muir.
I love your chair, very smart idea!!! You guys are amazing!! Crushing the Sierras. I can’t believe your hiking speed. Awesome Awesome. All the way from Key west Florida!! Thank you for the amazing video!!
You’re now getting to section I got to hike with my cousin in 2020. Absolutely stunning. Just loving your videos. And yes as someone mentioned it’s Pinchot without a T. “Pinch-o” pass.
Completely nuts! Unrecognizable from the "old days" of years prior to 2020. Third year in a row of crazy ideal conditions. Magic carpet ride! People who went through 2017 and 2019 have to be shaking their heads and laughing.
Are you going to take a couple of days when you get to Tuolumne? Have some gear sent to you so you can climb a little. Lot's of good stuff up there - my favorite might be West Country if you have time. I also have a PCT question. Pack weight leaving Bishop. Your base weight you said is 18lbs. You packed a 10 day food carry, so 15-20 lbs. So, just under 40 lbs first day? I love it. And you're right, You don't need an ice ax. Micro spikes, yes, but no ice ax.
Yeah it was pretty heavy! Havnt weighed the pack in a long time but I’m assuming it was probably close to 40. Luckily we have not been carrying any water in the mountains because whenever you get thirsty there is water nearby!
Spikes not necessary either (nor even particularly useful) except if you're traveling while there's still a crust. But a decent psychological crutch if you haven't done this before.
Dang. How did you manage to fit 8 days of food into your Hyperlite 2400 packs? The nice thing about the AT was never having to carry more than 4 days of food.
Seeing that little snow helps explain the situation at Mead and Powell Even in an avg snow year, you would have wanted an axe. That's because the optimal routes dont follow the trail, but rather ratchet up the bowls For example, the Mather traverse is from the south west ie you don't even bother with the trail that loops around from the east Same when you did Forester - sierra alpine means do your own thing, often times way off where the dry trail might be Of course, the exposure and run off are pretty critical, which is why you'd want to be able to self arrest I've had situations where I was glissading and had to self arrest. Secor (sierra peaks/passes) wiped out pretty hard
Just a little nit to pick... Mead and Powell are fed by the Colorado River... not near the Sierra Nevada. Goes to show the drought is more widespread than just California.
Whole new world. I've been on the same section in southern Sierra in a whiteout the first week of July, LOL. Last 3 years it's like the conditions got fast-forwarded by about 2 to 2 1/2 months. In 2019 there are parts of the trail that had tougher snow conditions in mid-August than they've got in mid-May. Crazy! These conditions are arguably the most favorable on record.
Gonna be eating good once you get started, and free privy rooms for the night, what more could you ask for... Kearsarge pass, the 2nd time., and now Glen Pass only 11,969 ft. a short one... just guessing it just might still be a tad cold up there, wow and a 20 mile day, awesome... 800 miles, woot woot... Snow melt creek crossing, BRRRRR... and now Pinchot Pass 12,500 ft., just a little higher... Thank you mother nature for the log bridge and a safe 17.2 mile day... Mather Pass 12,093 ft., and tons of snow fields, and finally a little glissading for a speedy descent... Where did the snow go... Oh there it is... Muir Pass 11,955 ft., wow back to back passes in one day and 24 miles, your crazy kids... STAY WARM and SAFE HIKING

BEAST!!! Keep enjoying all that goodness! Stay safe!
Amazing year. Bear creek is lower in mid-May than many years in July. So little snow. So nice when things are a cakewalk like this. Enjoy the ride!
Before I forget . . . I've only watched two episodes, but thanks for NO music--love it . . .

Hard to have better attitudes than you two! Way to go!
You two are such strong hikers. Way to go! Be well. Have a blast!

you two are awesome. great videos, great demeamor, great positive energy. yabadaba doo
Field of postholers was funny!!
This brings back a lot of memories, so many stream crossings! 2021 PCT alumni and I also entered the Sierras in April.

Thanks!
No, Thank You!!!!
I’ve done this in sections, when there wasn’t snow, looks much harder, but more scenic with it.
So happy Bear Creek crossing was easy on you. Sierras are GORGEOUS right now…brrr. 🤩
Thanks for taking us along. 🏔
Amazing! 👏👏
Woods Creek Bridge was much more fun when it had a wood deck with some of the slats missing.

U guys are def risk-takers: no ice deployed to self arrest. Ever tried arresting with trekking poles🤦♂️😬. Good luck with that 🤞
Yeah. I was concerned about the same thing.

@@gregall2178 duh?
Dry sierra means dry west overall
But thanx for the geog lesson
@@larkangel6593 *"Dry sierra means dry west overall"*
I don't believe that is entirely accurate.
@@larkangel6593 "Dry Sierra means dry West overall." Nope. If you don't know what you're talking about, best not to make declaratory pronouncements.
I think the Sierra is one of the most beautiful paces on earth.
Wow, you guys are way early in the Sierra.

There is a bus that goes from Bishop to Independence, then you do have to hitch to Onion Valley.
Were the Posh PCters your neighbours at the posh toilet hotel room? 😂 Enjoying watching both of your hikes!
Totally! It was pretty posh

In a normal year, the descent from Glen can be a more daunting prospect.
that looks like so much fun!!! Were you guys just butt-sliding, or was there a makeshift sled of sorts?
Let me amend that. The sliding looked fun. The postholing pass in the evening looked like the slog from hell. I love your attitudes!
Just butt sledding! A little rough on the hard snow!!
that bridge at 7:40 is almost as bad as the hemi bridge
"Pin" + "cho", ignore the T. Enjoying your videos!
you will not be carrying ices axes?
We are not. Luckily it was a good choice. We have not felt the need for them at all
@@sam.and.moriah microspikes? sorry if i missed your explanation- at any rate you are doing great!
Hi Sam
A private room with an ensuite bathroom? Y'all are spoiled.
