Report Writing Basics on Word

  • A screen cast demonstrating how to use Word effectively to create a professional report, particularly useful for university and college students.
    This video was designed for one of my courses, however, the principles remain the same, just choose your headings appropriately.
    You may benefit from watching this on a 'split'screen (by minimising the screens) so that you can see the Video and the Word document at the same time. Alternatively, you could watch it from a tablet and use a PC to create the report or just listen from your phone, using Wifi.
    Feel free to stop and start the video as you go along

    That is absolutely a lifesaver... You are a star! (and a clever little devil) Many thanks. I used to do all this on by one using bullet lists and the enter key. This process is very precise and easy to do, and it saves a huge amount of time.

      You need to focus on your headings first which will relate to the content you need to deliver. If you are not sure, you will need to ask what your Boss is expecting from you so you can ensure you provide the right content. I would include an Executive Summary after the contents page which summarises the main findings of your report as they may not wish to read it all and focus on the key findings.

    What is the best font for reports?

      Hi - usually Arial and Calibri are my go to fonts. Avoid comic sans or any serif fonts which have swirly features on.
